WITHE ENDY BACK, SOMEONE’S GOTTA GO

So who gets the boot for Endy? It’s not as easy as Mets fans think. If I were the GM the guy I’d like to release would be Brian Lawrence who has been underwhelming to say the least, the problem is he is slated to start on Monday in Philly. Lawrence is keeping the seat warm for Petey to make his grand re-entrance to the Mets rotation but he’s about one rehab start away from that glorious event.

Second choice to hit the bricks would be Public Enemy #1 Guillermo Mota. If the only reason to keep Mota on board is money then that’s a piss poor reason. The Mets are printing money at Shea this year with an average of 48,000 fans per game and the cash cow under construction the should be renamed THE GOLD MINE, money should no longer be an excuse to cut an unproductive player. As much as Mota has reached the heights of suckatude, he does have some interesting numbers such as an almost 3:1 K to BB ration and a fastball that tops at 97 MPH yes I know he gives up hits like Halloween candy but if it came down to Mota or Lawrence I’d keep Mota.

The most logical cut is of Shawn Green. Besides replacing Green with a younger, faster and most of all a complete opposite of an outfielder, Green serves no purpose on this team. His power is gone, he can’t hit lefties, and he has no position as under no circumstance should he ever be allowed into the outfield again. He does hit RHP well but so does Ruben Gotay (.355/.389/.532) and Marlon Anderson (.313/.365/.463) and neither one is a defensive liability like Green and both have more pop in their bat than Green add in that Chavez is a lefty bat it would make sense to release Shawn Green.

I would love to dump all three of these lead weights but if I had to pick one, I’d kick Shawn Green to the curb.

Is there a thing called a 3 sided coin to flip?? My first choice would be Mota!! Then again thats Omar’s boy. His native boy who he believed in and gave him 2 yrs instead of signing a guy thats probably honest named Bradford. Yeah thats Chad Bradford, who he let go to he O’s who probably didn ot take steroids, did not get suspended for 50 games and oh yeah I know he is not Dominican. My next choice would be Lawerence, what has he brought to the table that Pelfrey can’t or even Humber. I am sure Sosa can spot start until Petey comes back. On Sept 1st hopefully Joe Smith will be back. The reason I did not select Green is because with the Mets luck you release him and some one gets hurt. I wouldnot be surprised if Castillo knee is still bothering him, they place him on the DL and activate Endy. Oh yeah by the way where is Duaner Sanchez, has anyone heard from him and well being. That must have been a tough cab ride and then on top of it earn $850,000 not to pitch even one inning. 2006 he has earned 400,000 and gets a 450,000 raise to be placed on the DL. It blows my mind why Omar would do this. I guess he is one of his native boys too!!

    Steve,

Very well thought out piece on who to release. While all three can go, Green is the most logical. His lack of production is unacceptable, and he cannot flex into a new role. I’m hoping that Shawn’s cleaning out his locker by 3:55 and that Endy is on the bench (which he was last night) and ready to go. What an upgrade!

The logical choice is Green, and Mota would be an added bonus to dump. He belongs in a circa 1993 mets bullpen.

    Nice Win today 4-3
Yes it was a Must Win game today, to keep it going. They have to go for the sweep tomorrow and beat Fatso Skankee Wells. They have to BUNT BUNT BUNT, he cannot move that fast off the mound. It’s too bad that the Mets caught the Padres when they were getting hot, it would be nice to be 5-0 on this homestand. Well I guess we are all Padre fans tonight and tomorrow. Lets Go Padres. When we get to Philly the mininum is winning 2 and losing 2 to keep it even . Then to hell
    Turner Field.

OK I would love to see them go 3-0 but I know reality and will be happy with atleast one win from that hell hole ( Turner Field). My other concern who is going to pitch next Saturday. The way the rotation is set up it will be Brian ( Joey’s Cousin) Lawrence. This is not a good thing. This is what I propose. Being its Sept 1 rosters can expand, make the Braves think they are facing Lawrence and hours before the game announce that Humber will make his 1st major league start. This way the Braves have no info on him and maybe it will be the Mets luck that they cannot hit a rookie pitcher, just like the Mets struggle against them.

i’m trying to feel one good reason why green should stay on the team… he´s been up there, he´s experienced, he´s come up in the clutch a couple of times… i just feel he´s not a guy you should cut, you´ve seen the sandy alomar plays and the marlon anderon´s… this is a veteran team with a couple of young spirits driving it through… shawn green has an important role to play for this CHAMPION TEAM… i didn´t expect delgado to bring the game winner today… thats the way the mets roll…

why not cut milledge… he´s obviously not experienced enough for this postseason… next year we can bring up gomez and milledge to fill in for alou and green… the future looks good for these mets…

Cut Milledge? What? LMillz have you watched him play the last month? If anything Millz has become an untouchable when trade talks start this winter.

I have a feeling that Omar is going to trade Milledge during the off season to get himself a # 1 Pitcher. I could see Lasting and Humber along with a Mike Carp or Kevin Mullany going for a #1 starter. Someone like Santana or Willis.

Cut Milledge? Surely, you jest. He’s been on fire since we activated him. No way he moves. Shawn Green has been a dead weight all season. And I don’t see Omar trading Millz for a top pitcher. That’s not his style. He likes trading low-valued players for other high return low-value players.
