Finally last night the Mets played a game like they actually gave a shit if they won or lost. Maybe the ranting and raving by fans, bloggers, and radio personalities (Joe Beningno was in vintage over night form yesterday as he ripped the team and management a new asshole. By the way Evan Roberts, FUCK YOU) got to Willie and the boys because Randolph had a look on his face last night throughout the game like anyone who would fuck up last night was getting cracked with a Louisville Slugger. It’s about time.
The season may have turned on John Maine’ performance in the bottom of the 6th last night, as for five innings was pitching a man’s game, in fact Mex thought Maine could knock out a complete game as his pitch count was low, but then in the sixth the Ritalin wore off and Maine’s ADD took over. After giving up a single and two walks with Larry Jones, Teixeira, and McCann ready to go, it took Reyes, LoDuca, Professor Rick and Carlos Delgado to make visits to the mounds and Willie giving a stare like “I’ll beat your spacey ass if you lose this lead” to get Maine back on track. He got Larry and Teixeira to pop up on pitches low in the strike zone and McCann to watch a wicked slider hit the inside of the strike zone for strike three and if not for the blemish of a wild pitch scoring a run it was a masterful job by Maine.
I hope Petey is ready for this start against Cinncy and this is not a panic move by Omar. All the reports are that Petey looks primed and ready and if his arm isn’t deformed when he wakes up this morning, he will skip spending Labor Day on Coney Island to make his ’07 debut against the Reds.
I have heard from folks that the Mets do read the blogs (welcome Ron Darling!) so I will take credit for Willie Collazo getting the call to the Mets bullpen as Pelfrey and Humber will join him today in Atlanta. Collazo is not a big guy at a listed 5’9” and he does not have an overpowering fastball what he has is the knowledge on how to pitch as he keeps his pitches down, does not give up home runs and he is the classic reliever that has toiled in the bushes and comes up to make his mark. Collazo will be the “Who is this guy” of the season.
How do you know it’s the end of the summer? Its Labor Day weekend, football season gets underway, school starts this week and El Duque gets a cortisone shot.
I am going to make a second attempt to go to the Museum of the City of New York to see the Glory Days exhibit that celebrates the years 1947-1957 of NYC baseball. My first attempt to go was sidetracked by the tornado/flooding rains that knocked out subway service. So with sunny skies and 90 % of Manhattan in the Hamptons I figured this is the weekend to make the trip uptown. Besides there nothing better than walking around Manhattan on a Sunday morning.

that was a very much needed win last night. i though that johnny maine pitched a very good game. i am still in shock that he only gave up the wild pitch for a run, when they had the bases loaded with none out. jones is another met-killer, and he pops out. every mets fans dream i guess! im looking forward to see petey against the reds. he hasnt pitched a marjor league game, dating back to i believe september 27 of 06. but , i do think this is a desperation move by omar. hopefully el duque wont miss much, becuase this seems to happen to him quite often.
LETS GO METS !
IF Ron Darling is reading this, please apply for the Mets Pitching Coach job when Peterson is gone. We need more former Mets to manage and coach this team for tradition. Gary Carter would be a perfect manager, Maz bench coach, Keep HoJO as batting instructor and bring back Wally and Lenny to coach 1st and 3rd. Maybe this coaching staff would light a fire under their butts to WIN!!! I do have to admit nice wins in the the last 2 games, this is how they should be playing.!!! Keep up the Great Games Mets, hold on to the lead and clinch!!!
Joe beningo said what a lot of Mets fan have felt most of this year. Evan needs to lay off the koolaid. I can’t take anything that guy says seriously anyway. Wfan has is so hard to listen to these days. It seems the Yankees no matter what get the most attention anyway on that station. Espicially on Mike and Mad Dog. Those guys wouldn’t give the Mets a fair shake even if they pull it out this year. Those 2 guys talk about the Yankees for 3 hours straight before they mention the Mets for a measly 15 mins if were lucky. Anyway great win today and lets go for the sweep.
