Mets were frazzled after the Cheesesteak Massacre; “Woe is us†was the cry from Mets fans. How could this happen? Not just losing four straight but to Philadelphia? Of all the places? I wanted heads to roll. I went after Willie and Omar two guys I usually back to the end. Carlos Delgado too, what the hell was wrong with this guy? “Oh Freddy Skill Sets get ready to break the bank on Mark Texieriaâ€,  I screamed. It was like I was possesed by Steinbrenner (A/K/A the devil) and my soul was off to the South Bronx (A/K/A HELL!!!!!) but then a prophet appeared before me. He came from Florida by way of the Dominican Republic. His right arm, the arm that possessed all his power was rebuilt and rejuvenated. He walked into the Mets clubhouse and his disciples all stood a rejoiced, “All Hail the King of Mets, PEDRO!!!!!!!!!!!â€
Â
Yes I know he hit 90 mph once and 86-88 mph a few times but you were excepting 90-95 mph from Petey then you’re a fool. The Petey who threw gas is no longer with us, the new rebuilt Petey is a guy who gets by on a high baseball intellect, which is something the New York media refuses to give Petey his due. Petey, El Duque and Tom Glavine are three of the smartest pitchers to ever take the mound.  With all the talk of velocity what was missed by most was the way Petey changed speeds and hit his spots. That’s pitching. Intelligent pitching. Think about that. Of the Mets big three Petey, El Duque and Glavine not one of them could break a pane of glass but what they have is high pitching smarts. If the Mets clinch and go on to the playoffs Games 1, 2, and 3 would started by the Big Three then you have a choice of the two young guns of John Maine and Oliver Perez. What other team heading to the post season has those options? Â
Â
Of course I have to take a deep breath as optimism and being a Mets fan do not go hand in had but now that I have seen the prophet Petey, I’m becoming a believer again.
