Petey put up another strong effort yesterday. Not dominant but effective as he said he is now a “Tom Glavine like pitcherâ€. The most encouraging aspect of his start was his ability to throw first pitch strikes. Forget fastballs, sliders and change ups for a moment. the most important pitch is strike one. First pitch strikes set up the whole at bat and Petey was able to throw a first pitch strike to 15 of the 25 batters he faced. Outstanding.

A little blurb in the NY Post today mentioned that the Mets have hired Petey’s trainer, Chris Correnti as a consultant for the remainder of the season. Just making life more comfortable for Petey .

I’m very concerned about the limp bat Jose Reyes has brought to the plate recently. Even though his OBA is descent at .360 it was at .400 plus his OBA for July was a weak .317 that was a bit upgraded to .341 for August but so far this month is an awful .179. At first I want to attribute his offensive walk in quick sand to his high stolen base count taking its toll on his body and sapping his strength but it’s more of his approach to hitting that has me worried. Jose is not as patient as he was early in the season where he worked counts and took a strike to the point where his OBA was exceptional. I can understand his aggressive approach I were pitching to Reyes I’d rather throw fastballs for strikes than try to hit corners and miss as a walk is as good as a double. But Reyes hits just too many balls in the air for my taste and he needs to get back to what makes him great, hitting the ball on the ground and lining balls in the gap. When Reyes is using his power to hit line drives, there is nothing more exciting in the game than watching Reyes going for a triple.

I know Jeffey loves the Brooklyn Cyclones ands wants to hang championship banners on the Boardwalk but why are the Mets letting Ramon Castro play for the Cyclones in the NY-Penn League playoffs against Staten Island.? It’s not right. Let Ramon rehab in Flushing. In fact let Castro and Guillermo Mota come to the park early and let Mota throw his bullshit pitches to Castro so Ramon can get his confidence back just like the rest of the National League hitters have.. The Mets got themselves in hot water a few years ago when the Cyclones played the Williamsport Crosscutters for the NY-PENN League Championship and they “demoted†a bunch of players from Norfolk to help boost their chances.  The Brooklyn teams good enough with strong pitching to win the league championship it doesn’t need Castro to help.  Â
From watching both New York football teams yesterday, the only sports interest in this city this winter will be hot stove baseball and the New York Rangers.

Desperate & Idiotic!
Whoever said Jeffy was ethical!
I think St. John’s will have a good year too, which will bring a little extra life to New York in Jan & Feb.
Brooklyn Beat Staten Island last night and it’s on to the NY-Penn Championship Series. Hey, Jeffy is that a Wonder Wheel in your pants or are you just happy the Cyclones won.
Not sure on the Johnnies Eagle, hopefully we will have a lot of Mets Classics to get through the crule winter
