The weather today in NYC is apropos for the day. Rainy, muggy just really uncomfortable It’s been six years since the attack of September 11th and it’s my first year working downtown Manhattan since the attacks.
Â
I’m within walking distance of Ground Zero and pass it most days as I walk to the ferry so the attack is always fresh in my mind. I am a proponent of making September 11th a day of mourning. I don’t want to call it a holiday as holidays are joyous days. I wish there was a way that on this day no business are open, no schools open, no sporting events no movie theatres no nothing. Just a day where Americans sit and contemplate how this event has impacted our lives as Americans. I know there are reports of “9/11 Fatigue†where some people want the survivors and the families of the fallen to “get on with their lives†and don’t we all wish it was that easy, but it’s not.
Â
The scene on the SI ferry coming in this morning was different than most. Lot’s of firemen, cops and military people headed downtown. There were lots of kids as well. Some with somber faces who must have going to mourn and students headed for school. There are a ton of Staten Island kids who go to high school in Manhattan. Most go to Stuyvesant which is a block from the former Towers. It struck me that most of these kids were in grade school in 2001 and didn’t feel the effects of that horrible day. They don’t know how lucky they are.
Â
On to the fun and games.
Â
Ron Darling had a great story last night as he relayed to the viewers that Professor Rick has laid down the gauntlet to Oliver Perez and John Maine. Peterson has told both guys that one of will be in the pen during the post season and it may come down to who is the most effective in next starts. Darling said it was Peterson’s way of telling them that we are playing for a championship and any bad starts you had better be out of your system, in effect, it’s time for Ollie and Maine to man up. Perez more than man upped last night.
Â
I am secure enough with my sexuality that I can say I LOVE DAVID WIRGHT. If he’s not the MVP of the NL then stop giving out the award. The guy has had more big hits for the best team in the league all season. He’s the best player on the best team so that makes him the MVP Case fucking closed!
Â
The Klapper thinks Titan Tommy will get the Game 1 start in the playoffs. I say it’s El Duque if healthy. The Klapper thinks David Wright will excel in the post season. I think not only will he excel on the diamond but he will find a cure for cancer and find a way to bring an end to the turmoil in Iraq all before the World Series. The Klapper says it’s a tension convention between Willie Randolph and Billy Wagner. I say YAWN! The Klapper wants the Mets to stop playing Sweet Caroline at Shea as it’s a rip off of what the Red Sox do at Fenway. I say, it’s a fucking song get over it.
Â
Even though he’s a Braves fan, J.C. Bradbury is brilliant. Read his take on the HGH fiasco.Â

I don’t know about a day of mourning, Steve. It just wouldn’t happen. I guess if all the malls and movie theaters were closed it would limit the options, but I figure most Americans will just sit in front of the t.v. all day. Or some such, depending on the weather.
Eagle, sad but true most Americans would hate to be “inconvienced”
