ARMS RACE

I’m not going to get my Jockey shorts in a bunch over El Duque’s performance last night. The guy has been out for 10 days and as a finesse pitcher he needs to get his grove on with his touchy feely way of pitching. Add in that he is a diva and if things are not just right he kind of freaks so hopefully with a side session with Professor Rick and his throwing schedule he’ll get back in the groove that he was in before the foot injury.

Mike Pelfery got his first taste of coming in to a game in relief and admitted after the game that it will take some getting used to . If he wants to be on the post season roster he’d better make the adjustment fast. If your not part of the solution then your part of the problem and right now there seems to be a couple of precious spots left on the pitching roster for the post season.

I look at El Duque, Tom Glavine, Petey and Maine/Perez as the starters. One of Maine/Perez is going to the pen with locks Jorge Sosa, Pedro Feliciano, Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner. That’s nine pitchers. The question is how many arms do you need in a five game series? For sure, Guillermo Mota and Aaron Sele should be left off the post season roster. As much as Ron Darling came to Sele’s defense last night by saying he wasn’t as bad as his record or he’s been the good solider and has done whatever role Willie has put him in the bottom line is he’s been ineffective and he is a mop guy. Comes post season the mop up guys go home. As for Mota he just flat out sucks. I would add Scott Shoeneweis just as a LOOGY and the final spot would go to Joe Smith over Mike Pelfrey unless Pelfrey can show over the next couple of weeks that he can adjust to bullpen life.

PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Stop the Tom Glavine soap opera PLEASE!!!!! Let’s focus on the now. Winning the division, setting up the post season roster, winning the World Series that’s where the focus of this organization should be not on Tom Glavine’s plans for 2008. ENOUGH PLEASE. Tommy I’m begging you, I know me and you have a hate/hate relationship but you and only you can stop this madness by letting the dip shits in the media know that this is no time to talk about the off season or 2008. Please we have all winter to hear your torch song!

If Billy Joel is the last act at Shea Stadium I will be one angry young man. The last act at Shea Stadium has to the Mets defending their World Series Championship not some broken down lounge singer (Sorry all you Long Islanders that think this guy is talented but I’ll match my boy David Johansen and The New York Dolls up against him any day) to close out our house BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!

Tim Marchman has a piece on Jose Reyes in today’s NY Sun on not only th e quantity of Jose Reyes stolen bases but the quality

One of the really impressive things about Reyes’s stolen base totals (he had 75 entering last night’s game) is that he doesn’t run all that much in garbage time. Everyone can name some basketball player they dislike for racking up as many points as possible when a game is out of hand one way or the other, and stolen base kings have long done the same, pouring on the steals in the late innings of games safely put away. Reyes does a bit of that from time to time, but after checking every base he’s stolen this season, I learned that only 23% of his 93 attempts have come when the

were either ahead or behind by more than two runs. Sixty-eight percent of the time, he’s run when the Mets were tied, up one, or down one, and he’s 19 for 23 in the latter two situations — the most crucial in the game.

All this outrage over the New England Patriots stealing the NY Jets defensive signs is hilarious. I mean that’s like stealing from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. The Jets? The J-E-T-S JETS! JETS! JETS! Who have not won or been to a Super Bowl since I was 11 years old? PUULUEEZ! Instead of fining the Pats or suspending Belichick what the Boy Genius who has not won a damn thing yet coach of the Jets should have done was send in the fourth string defensive end (can you imagine being fourth string anything on the Jets?) And tee off on the baby maker Tom Brady. Sort of like chin music.
