Yes it certainly sucks that the Mets turn into baseball retards when the face the Phillies, that ‘s why I owe Bobster a big thank you for these You Tube clips of the 1969 World Series. I feel 11 years old again LOL
The clips are all from the series clincher Game 5. This one is Donn Clendeon (Clink) hitting a 2 run HR just look at the how Clendeon extends his arms click hereÂ
This clip is of “Little” Al Weiss hitting a HR off Dave McNally to tie the game at 3 and allow Jerry Koosman to hit and stay in the game. Weiss came up big all season for the Mets in’69 espcially in the 5 game series in Chicago to burry the Cubs. Look at the makeshift bleachers in the Shea Stadium outfield. Those were install for the playoffs and World Series. click hereÂ
Ron “Rocky” Swoboda drives in Cleon Jones and the Mets take the lead click here
And here is the final out of the game and series and look who is on the mound? Jerry Koosman THE PITCHER WHO STARTED THE GAME!!!!!! Of course Cleon Jones catches Davey Johnson’ fly ball to clinch it. How about the fans storming the field? I miss New York’s days of mayheim!!!!!!!! click here Â
Great stuff thanks again to Bobster for the links

Yes, Koosman finished the game, a day after Seaver finished the game…in those days, starting pitchers were expected to finish! Now the 7th inning is considered a complete game. Another couple of things I noticed looking at these 38-year-old clips: much less dawdling between pitches. The batter stayed in the box and the pitcher stayed on the mound. Let’s go back to that, maybe it will result in fewer 3-hour games. And lastly, the umpires went much easier on the batters with checked swings. There were several in that World Series that would definitely be called as strikes today. Back then, the other team didn’t even ask the other umpires for an appeal.
Since this is the Kranepool Society, I thought it only fair to also upload the video of Ed’s only postseason home run…. an 8th inning clout in Game 3 of the 1969 World Series. Here’s the link:

It’s no cheapie, either…at least 400 ft.! The run wasn’t critical, but it did give the Mets a 5-0 lead and Nolan Ryan a bigger cushion to close out the Orioles in the 9th.
I did a little calculation: Kranepool hit 118 homers in the regular season in 1,852 games, or a home run each 15.7 games. But with this single clout, he hit a homer in one of every nine postseason games! Go Eddie!
You the man Bobster!
Thanks Krane! I hope everyone noticed what a fine job Lindsey Nelson did on those 1969 broadcasts. He made Curt Gowdy look like an amateur!
All of those clips are great, although I don’t remember the 1969 season or series. I love the fact that there are so many people milling around outside Shea during the game (see Kranepool HR). What are they doing there?
Maybe those were Orioles fans going home early?
