THAT’S ME IN THE CORNER, THAT’S ME IN THE SPOTLIGHT LOSING MY RELIGION

Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I’ve said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

Going after Willie Randolph after last nights stunning loss to a Florida team that everyone in the media told us was mailing it in for the season, is like shooting fish in a barrel. To all you mainstream media types who feel that Mets fans are a bunch of yahoo’s for criticizing Willie Randolph’s managerial moves, how can you not just go ape shit over how he handled the bullpen last night? That was a shocking display of mismanagement and again I really hate bashing Randolph and I seriously take no joy in doing it but this team is ready to make the biggest choke job in baseball as Willie Randolph is mismanaging his bullpen in the same way Gene Much screwed up his starting pitching in the Phillies crash and burn in 1964.

Before the game Randolph knew that there was a strong possibility that Billy Wagner would not be available due to back spasms. If you ever had back spasm, as I have, you know you can barely walk never mind pitch a baseball. To Wagner’s credit he tried to throw but just couldn’t do it. Again, knowing the pain of back spasms, I can’t see how Wagner could ever bend his back to follow through. Whatever, knowing what Willie knew before the game he had to have a Plan B in mind right?  You would think that he would meet with Professor Rick-by the way, how much voice does Peterson have when it comes to personnel moves?  Does Willie listen to him or does he just brush him off?-and make a game plan with Wagner and without.   How do you remove a rested Pedro Feliciano for an over worked Jorge Sosa? For a guy who preaches cool and clam his handling of the bullpen at crunch time last night was pure panic. I see, you see it, his players see it and I ‘m sure Omar Minaya not only sees it but will address it with Willie. Omar needs to step in and call an emergency meeting with Randolph and the coaches to figure out how they can get this team back on track and to figure out the bullpen situation.

Do you blame Lastings Milledge for freaking out last night? If you got hit as many times as he has this season and no one stepping up to take your back you’d flip too. Again at what point does Willie stick up for his players? Lo Duca, Anderson and now Milledge have gotten tossed from games over bad calls by umpires. Milledge by the way was still stewing from being called out in the first inning at first base when he was clearly safe. Yes we know Willie is not that way well there comes a time when you have to stick up for your players or you’ll lose them and Willie is coming close to losing his grip here.

Last night, I was officially sick to my stomach. This is excruciating. They are blowing multiple, multiple-run leads to LAST PLACE TEAMS! All of this during a pennant race, while Jimmy Rollins carries the Phils. I did not put on Russo and MBFOTSH today. If I heard one word, I’d be tempted to drive to Queens and deal directly with them. I’m not talking baseball with anyone today. I’m just looking forward to the game and what will hopefully be a win.

Rich, funny I’ve been the same today. Unlike previous losses when I’ve been muttering and complaining to all and sundry, today I’ve been just silent. The longer the day’s gone on the more last night has been getting to me.

I agree on the back spasms thing. I heard Beningo and Roberts both questioning Wagner for not pitching with back spasms. They both basically said that he’d better be done, but that’s not how I understand those back spasms. I think they can strike suddenly out of nowhere and just as easily go away again.

I wonder if he tweaked his back on the flight south. Flying on airplanes is terrible for people with dodgy backs.
