RAINY DAY SAINTS

On my way home last night from work I met a neighbor of mine on the train. He asked what plans I had for the weekend and told him “well tonight I have about three hours of aggravation on tap” he looked at like “what”? I said “The Mets. I going home to watch the Met-Marlins game and I know I will be aggravated for at least three hours” little did I know I was off by about three hours as with the length of the game plus the over two hour rain delay it was closer to six hours of angst and agita. Of course the game restarted just as Real Time with Bill Maher was coming on so I had to make a decision Salman Rushdie or Guerillmo Mota. I chose Mota. I’ll see Rushdie on HBO 376. My highlights of the game:

We may look back at the bottom of the third inning as a turning point that sparks the hold on to the NL East pennant. It was Petey getting out of the bases loaded jam. The tape of that inning should be shown to every little leaguer, high schooler, college player anyone who wants to know what pitching is all about. It takes smarts, guile and cajones which Petey has in abundance.

After being down 3-0 early, the Mets come back in the top of the third and tie the game at three. So now it’s up to Petey to get three quick outs and let the offense inflict more damage on the human time bomb Scott Olsen. After getting Hermida to ground out, Cabrera doubles, Willingham walks and Jacobs singles, the bags are juiced and only one out. This is where Petey turns int o Popeye and eats his spinach as says “I’s can stands so much I’s can’t stands no more” and turns into a Hall of Fame pitcher.

He falls behind Cody Ross 2-0 and the next pitch is fouled off a pitch which looked like a slider just misses for a ball. 2 balls 1 strike. Petey just misses with a pitch at the knees and its 3-1 count. Ross has to be looking dead red, he gets it and fouls it back. Full count bases loaded one out. What a spot for a hitter.  This next pitch is huge. I’m on the edge of the couch in anticipation. Ross could break the game open here with a hit and that hit could just about sink a team whose psyche has been questioned by fans and media. The manager is under fire. The player’s heart and desire questioned for the first time in the Omar/Willie era.  Peteys pitch, A FUCKING GEM! Breaking ball on the outside corner of the plate knee high.  Home plate ump Adam Dowdy rips that right arm SSSSSSSSSSTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTRRRRRRRRIIIIKKKKKKKKKKKKEEEEEEEEEEEEE! Tell me again how Petey is not worth every penny they pay him. CAJONES BABY! CAJONES!

If Carlos Beltran can stand up this morning he has to play today. I hate to question how hurt a guy is but if he can walk he’s got to play.

Welcome back Carlos Delgado. If you don’t think Delgado means that much to this team just look at David Wright after the third out as he hugged Delgado like a long lost relative.

I’ve killed these guys all through the melt down but Guillermo Mota and Scott Schoeneweiss stepped up last night but it can’t be a one night stand we needs this down the stretch every night.

This notion that Rickey Henderson is a bad influence on Jose Reyes and has caused his second half slump is the biggest bunch of bullshit I heard in a long time. Yeah, Rickey is telling Jose, just go for stolen bases don’t worry about winning and losing. Are you kidding me? I hope no one believes this garbage. The media jokes about Henderson not knowing teammates names and the card playing but if you think Henderson doesn’t know about baseball and is an asset then you’re the chump. Find his baseball card read it and be educated.

Click here to listen to Mike Silva’s NY Baseball Talk where his guests are Kathy Foronjy and Joe Coburn the people behind the documentary on Mets fans Mathematically Alive. I hope a lot of guys can come out a see this film as Kathy and Joe have put in a ton of hard work months project.

I can’t stand McCarver anymore. I used to think he was a good analyst – twenty years ago.

I didn’t think the other guy was too bad – in fact I preferred him to Joe Buck.

It’s time for McFullofshit to put down the Miss Clarol and enjoy the fruits of of his bullshit diatribes

How many times do we have to hear that “speed slows down the game” and how Bob Gibson used to throw complete games? Eaqle is right, these were insights 20 years ago. Now, it’s like your annoying old uncle at Thanksgiving.

Mccarver is the worst! He wouldn’t even sign my program for me when I was 12 years old after a Mets game in 1993. He is so blatently antiMets. I rather hear Chris Russo sing then hear him call baseball games.
