NOW OUR LUCK MAY HAVE DIED AND OUR LOVE MAY BE COLD BUT WITH YOU FOREVER I’LL STAY WE’RE GOIN’ OUT WHERE THE SANDS TURNIN GOLD AND MAYBE EVERYTHING DIES BABY THAT’S A FACT BUT MAYBE EVERYTHING THAT DIES SOMEDAY COMES BACK
Posted by kranepool under UncategorizedI love how fans are now telling other fans how to root, root, root for the home team. Telling a Mets fan or any sports fan how to support their favorite team is similar to telling a person how to grieve the loss of a loved one. It’s a very personal emotion.
Some fans a vocal and want someone’s head on a platter. Some fans wear blinders like folks did during the Vietnam War when they wore buttons “My Country Right or Wrong” Some fans pull out slide rules and calculators to figure out if a player hits better on Saturday’s at 3:47PM when he wears one sock up and one down. There are fans who are with you win or win and some who are highlight fans. They never watch a full game just the clips on SportsCenter. The worst part of that clique is they feel they are “experts” on the team.
Then there are guys like me and a bunch of other folks who not only follow the big league team but also fret about the Savannah Sand Gnats, Brooklyn Cyclones and the Kingsport Mets. We read anything that pertains to the Mets and the organization from the signing of a 16 year old Dominican outfielder to how many bricks it will take to build the rotunda of Cti Field. To say we immersed into the Mets culture is like saying we need air to breathe.
I hate to be a grumpy old bastard (usually I LOVE being a grumpy old bastard in fact it is one of the few things in life I am really good at. Just ask my wife and kids. ) but I don’t need some twenty something or thritysomething Mets fan telling me a fortysomething (this is my last year as a fortysomething which when I turn fifty next summer I will become an unbearable grumpy old bastard) Mets fan how I should feel or root for the Mets. With all due respect, FUCK YOU!
My feelings right now are of sadness. I’ve moved on from the pissed off stage and the shocked stage and now I’ve moved into the sadness stage. I’m sad because no one in uniform has stepped up and led except for Paul LoDuca and Pedro Martinez. With all the stock answers that come from Willie, David Wright and Carlos Beltran it’s refreshing to hear LoDuca show honesty. From reading the quotes that come out of the Mets clubhouse the players are either full of shit or great actors. This team last night looked like they were playing baseball with sharpshooters aiming at them from the light sanctions. Let’s face it it’s tough to relax when your team can’t pitch or field and 50,000 people are howling and talk show callers are raging and bloggers are bloviating and the newspapers but out front pages headlines like this. It takes a tough guy to play here and just don’t know if the Mets have any tough guys in that clubhouse.
If the Mets drop the next three games I won’t be mad. I will be depressed yes but not mad. I’ve had my heart broken by this organization many times before this. The Seaver trade, Gil Hodges death, M.Donald Grant, Doc Gooden and Darryl Strawberry’s crash and burn, Vince Coleman, Bobby Bonila, 1985, 1987, 1999. Get the picture. The Mets organization has smacked the shit out me time and again and what do I say “THANK YOU SIR, MAY I HAVE ANOTHER”
Please don’t get me wrong here this is no surrender post. I won’t say I have total confidence in the Mets winning two or three games this weekend and making the post season but with all the heartache moments I have seen miraculous ones as well. The Black Cat of 1969, Wrigley Field Monday October 1, 1973, Game 6 1986 NLCS Game 6 1986 World Series Robin Ventura Grand Slam Single Rosalita Leiter beating the Reds in a one game playoff in 1999 5-0 There have been great moments and hopefully there will be some this weekend.
I hope to get to Shea tonight and win or lose I will be back not this weekend but hopefully next week. If not I will be back in April just like I’ve done for the past 44 years. WIN OR LOSE I LOVE THE NEW YORK METS. Pass the Kleenex please!
We will have all winter to dissect what went wrong and what has to change but for now is not the time for that. Let’s see how this plays out first. Let’s hope the Nats blow up the chicken men in Philly.

I believe many fans are going through sadness… that’s why the building was silent.
I’m in the exact same stage of “grief” as you… I’m just depressed. No anger, so rants on who needs to be fired… just sad.

I too will be hanging in there. I ripped the head off my Mr. Met bobblehead when Beltran took the called strike 3 last Oct yet there I was again in April after swearing this team out of my life.
I don’t ask perfection from the Mets. Taking the A’s to 7 games in ‘73 after rising from the dead and beating a superior Reds team was more than we could’ve asked.
All I’m asking now is that these guys some some heart and at least make it look like they care, and they can’t do it.
The Yankees gave us a gift in ‘04 - the all time sports choke. Now, we’re going to hand gloating rights back to them. ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH.
It’s ok not to win, Mets - but please show some heart and pride. I’m talking to you, Delgado and Wagner…too much time off when you should have found a way to play through the pain.
Next year, just show your true colors in April, please. This gutless disappearing act in Sept and Oct is brutal.

Let’s Hope Against Despair:
I just might be @ Shea, Tonight.

I’m sad, but I do feel a sense of purpose. The thing I hate the most in the world in people who are phony. I’ve been to CBP to see Mets games, I’ve been to the Vet as well. Phillie fans are phony. They don’t give two shits about baseball, that’s a fact, end of story. Talk to them in the stands. They call baseball a way to pass the time until the “Iggles” start. To see those phonies waving white towels (yes I watched them during commercials last night on Extra Innings)with the Mets logo on them (did you see that???)made me mad. We deserve it, they don’t. So, while sad, I’m also pissed and hope the Mets play with some anger tonight. The title belongs in Queens! LET’S GO METS!!!!!!

I tried to post after perez had his third HBP but I hit the wrong key.
Sorry in advance for the shouting and anger, but:
WILLY RANDOLPH IS AN IDIOT AND HE HAS TO BE FIRED.
You don’t let a guy who hit two guys w bags full keep going. YOU YANK HIM HODGES/CLEON STYLE! YANK THE BALL FROM HIS GLOVE AND SHOW ANGER!!!
My best friend said, ‘ok, but then who do you bring in?’
DOESN’T MATTER - BRING IN THE FATTEST, DRUNKEST GUY IN THE BLEACHERS!!! OLIVER PEREZ, STUD ON MANY NIGHTS, IS NOT UP TO IT TONIGHT. YANK HIM.
But no - Randolph stays with him and now we are in a bigger hole. MALFEEASANCE. IDIOCY.
It is a miracle that is was only 4-3 at the time. Now it’s 6-3, Phils up 3-0…great job, Willy - Oliver’s self confidence and esteem are preserved but your season is nearly done.
SERIOUSLY - NOT IN THE MOOD TO DEBATE THIS TOPIC AT ALL - HERE’S THE TRUTH - RANDOLPH IS NOT FIT FOR THE JOB. IF YOU DISAGREE, YOU ARE WRONG. SORRY. SAME FOR MINAYA.

HERE IS WILLIES NEW MAIN THEME
Kiss the season goodbye,
The sweetness and the sorrow.
Wish the Phils LUCK, the same to you.
But I can’t regret
What moves I made to lose this season.
Look my eyes are dry.
1st place was ours to borrow.
It’s as if we always knew,
And I won’t forget what I did to lose,
What I did for the fans is.
Gone,
The season is never gone.
As we travel on,
Losing what we’ll remember.
Kiss season goodbye,
And point me t’ward the Bronx.
I did what I had to do.
Won’t forget, can’t regret
What I did for
losing

You, sir, are to me what baseball is all about.
I hope the Mets turn it around and that Pedro defeats the Phills in a do-or-die playoff game, but if not, my condolences. April will soon come.

Freddie? Jeffy?
GET THE HELL OUT OF THE BASEBALL BUSINESS. You 2 Nickel & Diming Bastards, who Jack up prices in Shea Stadium, & put a Lesser Quality Product on the field, so we can pay for your Fat Cats Rumpus Room & Pleasure Palace, called Stub Hub Field, are ruining the Game & This Season:
Aaron Sele doesn’t have enough gas to cut one on the 7 Train, but he came @ the Right Price over Darren Oliver. Joe Smith was the better price over Chad Bradford. Was this so Jeffy could buy a Sling Box;
This is NOT The Montreal F—ing Expos, you 2 arseholes. Gee, Jeffy, did you run to Daddy Freddie to put a Kabosh on the Potential Osvalt Deal, so Omar would settle for the Now Juiceless & Useless Guillermo Mota;
Am I in the least bit surprised about what’s taking place, right now? Absof—ing lutely NOT! Am I pissed to the point of tears gushing? ABSOF—inglutely!
Who’s going to be the Fatted Calf, prepared for Sacrifice? Willie? Omar? A Security Guard? An Usher? Tim Mc Carver? Ralph Kiner? Luis Castillo? A Ball Girl?
There’s Hope, as the Mets lead 3-0;
BUT, I’m Still PISSED.

Ok - J. Maine pitches a Matlack in Game 2 of NLCS ‘73 type game. Am happy about that.
But I’m “watching” (really just following on yahoo.com) the Phils/Nats game. Notice how Manuel YANKED Adam Eaton after 2 1/3 when he put two guys on?
THAT’S what you do in last-gasp September baseball. You HOOK a guy the MINUTE he gets into trouble. Let him soak his ego in the offseason.
Our guy Randdolpy lets the occassional TRAIN WRECK Oliver Perez STAY IN THE GAME AFTER HBP’ING TWO RUNS IN W. BASES LOADED.
THAT IS WHY HE SHOULD BE FIRED EVEN IF WE PULL OUT SOME MIRACLE THIS WEEKEND AND INTO OCTOBER.
Willy Randolph does not understand the basics of his job. Willy Randolph has failed to see the urgency of this situation until what is proably TOO LATE.
Eat his contract, Fred, Jeff. He sucks. I was all for giving him a shot and now I have seen enough.
Charlie Manuel gets it. Randolph does not.
