I GUESS THE METS CAN “SCRAP” THOSE PLANS FOR RANDY TATE NIGHT

As per a link from Baseball Primer (cap tip to Repoz)  ex Met Randy Tate (for you youngens’ click the link to see about this one year less than wonder) was arrested in a copper clipping caper. Reminds me of the 70’s when guys would rummage thru abandon tenement basements looking for scrap to sell to the junk yard known then as the “junkie” .  It was a little tougher than cutting Bordens coupons for Mets tickets but you made enough for a game ticket and a hot dog.

Maybe it’s because I’m a Mets fan and not a Red Sox fan and that he is such a great hitter and is as clutch as they come but I’m not as angry with Manny Ramirez quote that “it’s no big deal” that  the Old Town Team is down 3 games to 1. :

{”We’re just going to go have fun and play the game,” he said. “That’s it. If we go play hard and the thing doesn’t come like it’s supposed to come, we’ll move on. We’ll come next year. Why should we panic? We’ve got a great team. If it doesn’t happen, good. We’ll come next year and try to do it again.
“We’re confident every day. It doesn’t matter how things go for you. We’re not going to give up. We’re just going to go and play the game, like I’ve said, and move on. If it doesn’t happen, so who cares? There’s always next year. It’s not like the end of the world or something.”}
I guess what Manny is saying here is “hey, if we lay it on the line and give it everything we got and come up short well we gave it our best shot” which to me is better than the Carlos Delgado quote where we’re so good we get bored or Tom Glavine spiting the bit and then courting the Braves for one last hurrah.  Manny is one of the greatest post season performers in history so it’s not that he takes it for granted he’s in the post season Sure I guess I’m a Manny apologist but  the guy is a hitting machine and  a clutch hitting machine at that. Ramirez has one year left on his contract plus two years of club options so answer me this, who would you rather have in LF for the Mets next season Moises Alou or Manny Ramirez?  I’d take Manny in a heartbeat. For one year you can’t tell me this is not worth the risk by Omar to bring Many to the Mets.

Manny would drive me nuts, but yeah he’s a machine. Watching him “leg out” that off-the-wall single just had me chuckling, but if I was a Boston fan I’d have been going crazy.

I’ve had a shitty week in all aspects of life, so here’s a thought that adds to my misery. It was one year ago tonight that Wainwright threw Beltran a curve. We all know what happened.

I think Manny is one of those guys that you can admire from a distance, but if he were up close, we’d be posting a lot of negative stuff on his lack of hustle and space-cadet attitude. That having been said, Alou or Manny, I’d take Manny.

I would not want Manny Ramirez on the Mets under any circumstances.

He is a lazy thug. His sloppy, fat, dreadlocked appearance, topped off by his ill-fitting, pajama-like uniform with the pants legs bunched up at the bottom is a disgrace to the game.

I am very anti-headhunting but I’d make an exception to see this thug get one in the helmet after admiring a meaningless homer or dogging a double into a single.

Moises Alou all the way over Manny Ramirez. Haven’t we had enough freak shows in the past 45 years? Why court another?

Yes, I know the numbers, but at a certain point, I want to like the Mets I root for. To me, Ramirez is just inches away from the Coleman/Bonilla/Saberhagen era. I don’t ever want to love/hate the Mets again like I did during that era and the day Ramirez joins is the day I love/hate the Mets again.

My son turned to me last night when Manny hit it the “single” off the wall and said ‘Dad, if we ever did that (our LL team) you would have made kill one of us” and he’s right. But for one year I’d take my chances with Manny in LF for the Mets.

Hey Mets Fan Dad Spins, why is it you have such a problem with only black and Latin players? Why is Manny a “thug” and what does his hair style have to do with his ability to play baseball. Is he out there sure he is but you know what Eric Byrnes is “out there” to with wild hair and a surfer dude attitude but I guess he has the right skin pigmentaion for you

hey man - careful with those comments

for the record, i have problems with bret saberhagen, roger clemens, steve lyons, erir byrnes

throw in that thug, pete rose, who’s a thug for hitting ray fosse in an exhibition game

write a post about how the mets should get eric byrnes and i’ll whale on him too

couldn’t stand dallas green…john franco…there were lots of mets i have disliked over the years. they come in all colors

i also had a big problem with damon’s hairstyle. and no, it has nothing to do with playing baseball…it has to do with professional presentation. why do the yankees look the way they do? they don’t even have names on the back of their uniforms.

really disappointed in your comments. i like your site but i’m done here man. breaking out the racist card is not just inappropriate - it’s borderline libel. who the fuck are you to write a fucking post like that????? that’s a nasty accusation.

thanks for all the laughs, but really, you are way out of line to say i have a problem only with black and latin players.

nice way to treat one of your fans.

actually, fuck you. you are WAY out of line to write that shit, so fuck you.

At least this confirms a random memory from when I was a kid - that there actually was a Randy Tate who pitched for the Mets in 1975….I had begun to think it was my imagination
