IT’S A HIGHLANDER HATERS PARADISE

There were a few Mets items today but I have to first comment on the  dumping of St. Joseph of Torre. Even though Torre did his best job of managing the Highlanders this season the new breed (or inbreed) that is in charge of the Tampa team based in the Bronx not only insulted the sainted Torre with a bogus contract offer they flew him down to FLA to bitch slap him as well.

It’s not that the Highlanders are not within their right to sever ties with Torre but as the former manager stated in one of the most dignified pressers ever seen in these parts if the Highlanders were honest and up front with him and said they felt it was time to change course and go young both in player personnel and field management, he would have no problem with that logic. But when you have a scumbag like Randy Levine as your leader you get the embarrassment of Torre’s termination.

As a Highlander hater this is even better than watching them lose in the first round once again. You have the Steinbrenner Boys who really want nothing to do with running the team but because two of their sisters married absolute assholes they got sucked into the family business. With Rudy Giuliani boot licker Randy Levine and another two other worms like Lonn Trost and Pee Wee Cashman in power positions well it just puts a big shit eating grin on my face. Just wait until Mariano signs with the Mets OHHHHHHHHHHHHH BAAAABBYYYY!

El Duque had his bunion operated on today and should be ready for spring training. Can’t beat that Medicaid coverage.

It looks more and more that Rudy Jaramilo will be joining the Mets staff as soon as his Texas Rangers contract expires at the end of the month.

Good move by Tom Renny putting Marek Malik on the bench but after the Rangers woeful display in Atlanta Renny better put a foot in his players ass’s or I’ll start a Scotty Bowman to the Rangers rumor .

I GUESS THE METS CAN “SCRAP” THOSE PLANS FOR RANDY TATE NIGHT

As per a link from Baseball Primer (cap tip to Repoz)  ex Met Randy Tate (for you youngens’ click the link to see about this one year less than wonder) was arrested in a copper clipping caper. Reminds me of the 70’s when guys would rummage thru abandon tenement basements looking for scrap to sell to the junk yard known then as the “junkie” .  It was a little tougher than cutting Bordens coupons for Mets tickets but you made enough for a game ticket and a hot dog.

Maybe it’s because I’m a Mets fan and not a Red Sox fan and that he is such a great hitter and is as clutch as they come but I’m not as angry with Manny Ramirez quote that “it’s no big deal” that  the Old Town Team is down 3 games to 1. :

{”We’re just going to go have fun and play the game,” he said. “That’s it. If we go play hard and the thing doesn’t come like it’s supposed to come, we’ll move on. We’ll come next year. Why should we panic? We’ve got a great team. If it doesn’t happen, good. We’ll come next year and try to do it again.
“We’re confident every day. It doesn’t matter how things go for you. We’re not going to give up. We’re just going to go and play the game, like I’ve said, and move on. If it doesn’t happen, so who cares? There’s always next year. It’s not like the end of the world or something.”}
I guess what Manny is saying here is “hey, if we lay it on the line and give it everything we got and come up short well we gave it our best shot” which to me is better than the Carlos Delgado quote where we’re so good we get bored or Tom Glavine spiting the bit and then courting the Braves for one last hurrah.  Manny is one of the greatest post season performers in history so it’s not that he takes it for granted he’s in the post season Sure I guess I’m a Manny apologist but  the guy is a hitting machine and  a clutch hitting machine at that. Ramirez has one year left on his contract plus two years of club options so answer me this, who would you rather have in LF for the Mets next season Moises Alou or Manny Ramirez?  I’d take Manny in a heartbeat. For one year you can’t tell me this is not worth the risk by Omar to bring Many to the Mets.

ATTENTION TROLLOPS, DEREK JETER DOES VALIDATE

This from PAGE SIX. No wonder Captain Highlander hasn’t come out in public support of “Mr. T” he’s busy with his ho’s:

{Our spy in the lobby of the Shore Club in Miami early Sunday morning spotted “two scantily clad women screaming at the front desk because they had spent the night at Jeter’s penthouse and were then charged for parking.”

“The girls were wearing what looked like the same clothes they wore the night before - a tight cocktail dress and a mini-skirt. They were making a huge scene because they were asked to pay for parking.

“Obviously, they’d spent the night there,” giggled the onlooker, who noted that one of the overnight guests was screaming into the phone, “After last night, he’d better [bleep]ing take care of it!”

After a bit of insistence, “they eventually left happy.}

HEY HAVE YOU HEARD, THE BASEBALL PLAYOFFS ARE ON TV

I don’t get caught up in TV or radio ratings although MBFOTSH and his Bee-atch act like they are watching Jena Jamison perform in one of her films when they read the ratings

Russo: Mikey how many takes do you think Jena took for that money shot?

Francesca- Hummm  (big swig of Diet Coke) that was done in LA right? I’ll say a  4.2

Russo- On the button. Boy you know your porn stars.

Francessa-Well you know I read her biography where she goes into detail on completing the deal Dawg

But when I read about the piss poor ratings I wonder who besides me is watching these games? Last night I tried very hard to watch the Rockies-D’Backs but all I kept thinking was my alarm clock will go off at 5:30 AM so  I gave in and went to bed. What makes it worse is you can’t even read about the game in the papers as the end right as the fish wraps are being delivered.

But if the ratings are so bad why not play the games in the afternoon?  It’s not like TBS is out there humping advertising so that’s not a factor. The NLCS should have been on at 4PM EST then let FOX show the ALCS at 7PM. Not only do you get two games at a descent hour you also cut down the odds of  Rockies fans getting frostbite at the game.

DEAR OMAR MINAYA, REMEMBER WHERE YOU CAME FROM.

The most frustrating part of watching the NLCS besides trying to stay awake is playing the “what if:” game. The Rockies have gone on a historic run of 21 wins in 22 games and the first team since the ’76 Big Red Machine to go 7-0 in the post season with a strong No-Name Bullpen. Brian Fuentes was demoted from closer to set up man in favor of Manny Copas   Added to them are a supporting cast of Matt Herges, LaTroy Hawkins, Jeremy Affeldt and Ryan Speier if I said to you in July that that bullpen would perform better than the Mets bullpen you’d think my last name was Steinbrenner.

But what has me bugged is when the Mets went into free fall due to ineffective pitching what would have happened if Carlos Muniz, Willie Collazo and Mike Pelfery were used from September 1st to the end of the season? And why weren’t they used out of the pen. You can’t blame that on Omar Minaya as he recalled the players when the roster expanded but for some reason that has never been explained to Mets fans is why two pitchers, Muniz and Collazo who were very effective in Double A and TripleA and Pelfery who should never have been sent to back to Triple A as he had nothing to prove there, were not better utilized by Randolph/Peterson? Instead we got a steady diet of Guillermo Mota, Aaron Sele and Scott Schoenewies down the stretch. Don’t even bring up the ridiculous use of broken down saw horses like Dave Williams and Brian Lawrence instead of Mike Pelfrey and Philip Humber. What adds more insult to this dumb ass way of running a pitching staff is that the NL Pennant winner the Rockies and the up two games to 1 AL leaders the Indians are doing their damage with a bunch of relievers that make the equivalent of the price of an executive suite $iti Field.

I guess what I’m trying to say in too many words is it’s time for Omar to get back to his roots as a scout and talent evaluator instead of becoming a money spender. Leave all the bullshit babble on salary to dickheads like Mike Francesca who equates payroll to success, instead I’d like to see the Mets invest more money in player development and build an organization of players who actually give a shit if the team wins and loses. This way we don’t have to put up with the “Who gives a fuck” attitudes of mercenaries like Tom Glavine and Carlos Delgado.

PAGING DR.PHIL

I saw this article on Mets Blog about a former NYC Fireman who retired and left NY to move to sticks of Missouri. The guy commutes to NY to work as a cotton candy vendor at Shea Stadium during the summer. He states he’s been a vendor since he was 16. After I read this I though this was bizarre that a guy would moved his family out of NY after 9-11, boards a plane every home stand to work as vendor. It just struck me as very odd. Then I read some of the comments on this story and some of the commentators are making this guy into some kind of hero. I have to say I don’t get it. To me it seems the guy needs some therapy.

VOTE FOR RUDY

Omar Minaya favorite Rudy Jaramillo’ contract with the Texas Rangers is up on October 31 and the Mets are ready to pounce on him and add him to the Mets coaching staff as a repacement for Rickey Henderson. So much for Willie Randolph picking “his guys” as coaches. even with that I am on board with Jaramillo joining the Mets as he was the guy I wanted to manage the Mets over Randolph and although it could create an uncomfortable situation for Willie, Jaramillo is a no nonsense guy who is as highly regarded as any hitting coach in baseball. Maybe this is the guy the could get Jose Ryes to hit line drives instead of fly balls. As for HOJO he would go to the first base line and continue to be David Wright’s gentlemen’s gentleman.

NEW KING OF THE HILL

Meet the new Chairman of the Highlanders. (Hank Hill and Hank Steinbrenner seperated at brith see Steinbrenners’s pic on the link) All I know is the New York Sports Media are the biggest bunch of Highlander rooting phonies. Omar waited two days due to waiting to meet with his bosses the SkillSets to let WillIe Randolph know he was safe for another season after a historic collape. The Highlanders are letting St. Joseph of Torre hang in the breeze after what could have been his best managerial job as Highlander henchman as The Bronx Costra Nostra goes to their safe house in Tampa. Just look at this pic and tell me if the Bronx Robber Baron doesn’t look like Vinny the Chin Giagante. The only guy worthy of respect in this gang of eight is Stick Michael. If you look close at the pic of the Bronx Robber Baron you can see Bill Madden siting in the corner with his pants around his ankles pleasuring himself to a picture of Joe Pepitone.

WALKS IN THE DESERT

You know how I feel about walks They’re poison and that’s what did in the D’Backs last night. The Snakes had their chances with the bags juiced in the 5th (three walks one intentional) and came away with nothing. They did tie the game on a bizarre play that involved Kaz Matsui’ throwing error to Tulowitzki who missed 2nd base and the runner Stephen drew walking off the bag thinking he was called out tagged out by third baseman Garret Atkins. For all of KazMat’s great offense he is still a liability in infield. Then the poison came out in the top of 11th. An infield single and then an out, then a walk, an out then a walk then Jose Valverde walked Willy Taveras to plate Spilbourghs with the go ahead and proved to be winning run. Hard to figure the Snakes coming back in this series as the Rocks go home needing two wins in the next five games with three of the five in Denver.

Game one of the ALCS was no contest in fact after it got to 6-1 I switched over to Rangers-Caps. Rangers power play back from the dead. I’m excited to go to the Rangers-Senators game tonight at MSG my first game this season.

IT’S THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT

I am extremely worried about my well being because when I start agreeing with Wally Mathews it gives me the shakes. When I saw the headline on his story “ Mets not (Highlanders) are clowns in this town” I figured I’d link it with the usual Wally is a douche bag disclaimer but after reading it the fucker was right on:

{ They’ve (Mets) got a manager who is a lonely man in his own clubhouse, being undermined by a front office suit who is way too close to many of the players and a son-of-an-owner who is way too involved in personnel decisions, both of whom are looking for the first available reason to fire him.

They’ve got a GM who has abandoned his eye for evaluating young talent in favor of the easy way out, rebuilding-by-checkbook.

Worst of all, they seem to have a roomful of players who not only don’t know how to win but don’t care to learn.

When the pressure was on late in the season, it was the Mets, not the Yankees, who were loafing on the base paths, forgetting how many outs there were, unraveling on the mound and arguing over stupid things.}
See the problem? There is not one of those paragraphs that are untrue, and that hurts the most.
How about those classy fans at Chase Field? Great security eh? Imagine if the game was sold out? How remarkable is this run the Rockies of 18 wins in the last 19 games? Jeff Francis looks cool and calm on the mound just pounding that strike zone down, down down and getting ground ball after ground ball out. And my favorite punching bag Kaz Matsui again coming up with a big hit but also looking like an under sized right wing getting upended at second base shades of Marlon Anderson al la CBP. Brandon Webb also pounded away at the strike zone and for one bad inning in the 3rd he turned in a nice start. But the advantage goes to the Rocks and to Jeff Francis who tossed a nice and easy 89 pitches.
At first I thought I’d pick the Red Sox in 5 games over the Indians but the last couple of days I’ve been going back and forth. I don’t know what Dice-K is going to do and there is a possibility that C.C. Sabathia and Fausto Carmona could each pitch twice or even Sabathia going three times in this series. But I still can’t go against Josh Beckett and the insufferable Curt Schilling and Jon Papelbon and  Hideki Okajima. Plus Big Papi and my favorite non-Mets player Manny Ramirez (   I might have to break out my “Manny Being Manny “ t-shirt for this series) so I guess you know where I’m going here, Old Town Team in Six.
