November 2007

I read this on Faith and Fear in Flushing about our new outfielder (I’m sick just typing that) Ryan Church about his feelings on the people of Jewish faith:

{An article in Sunday’s paper about Baseball Chapel quoted Church as saying that he had turned to Moeller for advice about his former girlfriend, who was Jewish. “I said, like, Jewish people, they don’t believe in Jesus. Does that mean they’re doomed? Jon nodded, like, that’s what it meant. My ex-girlfriend! I was like, man, if they only knew. Other religions don’t know any better. It’s up to us to spread the word,” Church said. }

Yeah this Church guy is a real intelect eh?, oh this deal just gets better and better by the way his new girlfriend is Ann Coulter. Did the Skill Sets know this before they gave Omar the ok on this deal?

Isaiah Thomas is laughing at this deal.

How does LMillz go from a trading chip for a front line pitcher to getting sent to a division rival for a non descript catcher and a hitter who due to no DH in the NL plays the outfield.?

I know Church had 43 doubles and 15 HR last season but how is this an upgrade over Milledge? This deal will defiantly come back and bite Omar and the Mets in the ass a la Scott Kazmir. This kid and that’s what he is a kid, has been malign from the day he was drafted and as he climbed up the system ladder just got better and better. All he needs is AB’s as his batting eye has improved and he was forced fed to go from a centerfielder to a corner outfielder and started to show promise. Omar will be on with MBFOTSH and the Dip Shit at 4PM I can’t wait to hear him spin this bullshit deal. I wish LMillz all the best in DC and I’ll be rooting for him. All you haters out there I hope you’re happy when Milledge goes .300/.380/.500 under the tutelage of Manny Acta.

Brian Schneider becomes the left handed platoon with Ramon Castro which makes me wonder how much better is Schneider over Johnny Estrada. Is Schneider that much better defensively than Estrada? Hell, this deal makes me wish they went through with the Torrealba signing. At least Castro will get more than 200 AB’s next season.

Again I find it hard to believe that (a) this is the best Omar could get for LMillz and (b) Why trade Millz to a team in your division?

The next move better be for a pitcher or Shea will come down faster than the Skill Sets wanted to.

How much of an asshat is Quentin Richardson? Other than Isiah Thomas who is an abusive ass hat how can they let themselves be quoted that they feel the Knicks have as much in not more talent than the Boston Celtics? You think the C’s have no bench Q? Tony Allen, James Posey, Eddie House hell even Scalabrini are better than anything you throw out there not named Zach Randolph or David Lee. I hope the P.G.A. Tour reads those quotes and give you and your embarrassing boss the ass kicking you deserve.

Hey Tom Reney, can I please address the Rangers tonight before they play the Fishsticks at the Worlds Most Famous Arena? Without the heart and soul Sean Avery in the lineup guys will have to stand up and perform (this means you #68 SHOOT THE PUCK GOD DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Even though it’s still very early in season this is the first message game of the season so it’s time to be accountable. With no Avery, Shanny will have to step up and fire up this team. Losing sucks big time but losing to these suburbanites is a disgrace and tonight it stops. GO RANGERS! oh and POTVIN SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

There needs to be a law passed banning inflatable Christmas decorations. They have become a plague these ugly ornate pieces of crap. If you live in an attached house and the inflatables in front of your home is bigger than the living space inside the house you look like an idiot with these enormous eye sores on your postage stamp lawn . Don’t get me wrong  I love Christmas and I say Merry Christmas to everyone as that’s another thing pissing me off if I want to have a CHRSTMAS party I’ll have one I don’t want a HOLIDAY party. If you are offended by me having a CHRISTMAS party then you can do one of two things, ignore it or go fuck yourself.

I’m almost at the point where all the Johan Santana minutia is making me think this guy is overrated. Sure he has two Cy Young Awards and is the guy the Mets need and want to front their rotation but I think some Mets fans need to take a cold shower because trading either Jose Reyes or Carlos Beltran for Santana is utterly ridiculous. No one loves pitching more than me but for Christ sake I’m not going to rip apart my team to get it. I don’t envy Omar Minaya, if doesn’t come home from Nashville next week without a front line pitcher he could be apprehended by Mets Land Security when he arrives at LaGuardia.

Right now I’d say Santana to the Mets is as dead as M.Donald Grant. Dan Haren or Joe Blanton has legs and Erik Bedard is on life support. Dontrelle Willis is a mystery if he will be dealt so what’s a GM to do?  I still say call the Pirates and see what the price is for Ian Snell and Ronny Paulino. If Omar could add Joe Blanton and Snell and not bankrupt the farm system it will be a feather in his Mets fedora.

Home Run Derby has a great post on the road “blues” that teams used wear back in the 70’s. The Royals and Blue Jays are going back to the blue road uni as an alternate for the Blue Jays is is certainly an improvement as the current Blue Jay uniform especially the cap is a cross between a gas station attendent and Con Ed meter reader.

I disagree on the Expos uni which I always loved

Now that Tom McCarthy has bolted down the Jersey Turnpike, the Mets are looking for a new radio voice.  McCarthy never made a big impression on me but it is kind of hard to be a Mets broadcaster with Howie Rose and Gary Cohen in the fold as both grew up here and were (and still) not only die hard Mets fans but walking encyclopedia of Mets information.

So where do the Mets turn for a partner for Rose? In a perfect Mets world and ex player like Straw, Maz or Kid Carter would be the answer but I don’t  think any of those three would make the commitment to 162 game schedule. By all rights Ed (Grey Goose) Coleman should get the job (even though I’m not a big fan of his bland style) just due to seniority. The best candidate would be Ron Darling then you could use Maz as the back up to Mex when he takes his frequent hiatus during the season. A dark horse would be Kenny Albert, a solid play by player and a “NY guy” or even Bob Wischuisen a guy who is both energetic and a solid play by player.  Anyone have Steve Zabriskie’ number? I’m kidding.

I guess with the alpaca’s all fed and his Christmas shopping done, Billy Wagner figured it was time to help Omar Minaya right the S.S. Metropolitans ship after the glacier it hit down the stretch. Let’s take a look at some of Billy the Kids quotes as he opens up as only Billy Wagner can:

On Tom Glavine leaving:

“Losing Tom is big. It’s a lot more than the 13 games he won. It’s what he did for John Maine and Oliver Perez and how professional he was. People want to focus on one bad game or just the day-to-day stats. He was one of the few leaders we had. We’re down 13 games already, plus all the games Tom deserved to win.”

Billy, relax. First off Glavine never wanted to be a Met but for John Shuerholz tossing him to the curb and the Skill Sets in dire need of a big signing he joined the team but his heart was never in NYC. If I’m Rick Peterson and Randy Neiman I take offense to you giving credit to Glavine for Maine and Ollie. As for replacing Glavine’s wins and innings Livan Hernandez is as good as Glavine is now so it’s not a stretch. Give your boss a little credit as he will figure out a way to bring in a starter better that your buddy Tommy. As for all “those games Tom deserved to win” How about the game the franchise need to win the last game of the year and your “leader” shit the bed?

On Paul LoDuca:

“Maybe he wasn’t the best receiver. I don’t know. But Paulie competed. He battled every day, and we had some guys who didn’t show up every day. They were satisfied if they got a hit and we lost. Paul was angry if he had four hits and we lost. And every one of the pitchers trusted him. He was a big part of what we did in 2006, and now he’s gone, too… It just worries me that we’re missing some important guys.”

If your going to throw mud like this name names. If you do that then you show some real onions otherwise your a coward. That’s a pretty bold statement when you say guys didn’t show up. Who? You really just threw 24 other players under the bus along with your manager and coaches.

On Willie and the pen:

“I understand what Willie wants — for a lot of guys to be able to pitch whenever they’re needed for as long as he needs them. I’m not sure you can have that. Guys are used to having roles. They’ll take the ball because that’s what the job is and that’s what the manager wants. But the idea is to get them into situations where they can be successful. I mean, you wouldn’t ask Carlos Delgado to bunt.”

Although I agree with Wagner that guys like to know their role and this has been a bone of contention with Mets reliever when it comes to Randolph sometime you have to do what the boss tells you to do. Wagner who said the Mets need leadership should live by his own words and say that he’ll do whatever the manager tells in to do. Pitchers pitch, hitters hit. If you have a problem with the way the manager is doing things and it;s no secret that Willie and Billy do not see eye to eye, then take it up with him. As much as we love to hear you spout off, don’t air your dirty laundry in public.

On Omar and the team:

“Someone asked me what I thought of our team, what team? I’m trying to be positive. I’m saying we have some good players. But I’m worried. The Braves are getting better, and the Phillies made a move acquiring Brad Lidge.”

I agree the Braves and Phillies will be better and the stigma of last season will still be hanging over the team come April but just because Brad Lidge is a buddy of yours don’t insult our intelligence by saying he’s a key player here.

I do like Wagner’s candor but it is way to early to criticise Omar and I think he has too much to say on how Willie manges (leave that to a professional like me) instead of worrying about things he has no control over Wagner should just work on his breaking ball and concentrate on getting saves. For a guy who pitches one inning and appears in less than half his teams games he has a lot to say.

Like shoppers on Black Friday, the GM’s for teams with deep pockets are getting ready for the Johan Santana Sweepstakes. I’m one Mets fan who laughed at the headlines in the Post and Daily News that the Highlanders have opened talks with the Twins on trading for Santana. Of course we have heard that the Highlanders have the prospects and the dough to land Santana but the Mets have as much if not more of what the Twinkies are looking for.

The big Highlander names we hear are Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy, and Melky Cabrera. Pack a Day Hank has said that Joba Chamberlain is off limits in a deal. Omar Minaya has said everyone but D-Wright, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran are off limits. I like Omar’s way of thinking.

The Twins have three young pitchers in Kevin Slowey, Matt Garza, and Scott Baker so you would think that they would want a major league arm instead of another young arm? So how about the Mets putting Aaron Heilman in the deal with Lastings Milledge, Carlos Gomez, Ruben Gotay and say one or two low level prospects for Santana. Heilman gets to go back to starting; Gotay fills the need at 2nd base. Milledge takes over CF and Carlos Gomez gets seasoning in Triple A. Even if you had to add Mike Pelfrey or Phil Humber it’s still worth it for the both teams. In fact add in Pelfrey/Humber and take back Gomez, and that looks better.

Don’t let the fish wraps fool you, the Mets are MAJOR players in the Santana sweepstakes and they will spare no player or dollar bill not to land him.

I’m guessing it took the Mets PR staff a whole 10 minutes to come with this uniform patch for next year
