By now we all know my feelings on Tom Glavine. I was embarrassed as a Mets fan the way the Skill Sets threw money at this phony to join the Mets. Glavine made my stomach turn with his bullshit soap opera way he dragged out his contract negotiation with the Mets last off season trying to get the Braves to at least come close to the Mets offer. So now he’s back to the place he never wanted to leave. If you’re a Mets fan who feels bad that Glavine is gone or that he was in some way a “good Metâ€, you’re a fool. Glavine didn’t give a shit about you, the organization or the City of New York. I don’t want to sound bitter but good fucking riddance Titan Tom, I can’t wait until we light your ass up in 2008.
Â
I have no problem with Luis Castillo coming back even though 5 yrs is a lot for a guy with a bad wheel. It still concerns me that it looks like seven of the eight starters from last years underachieving team are back in the fold and by the way someone please if you know what Paul LoDuca did that has made the Mets turn their back on him like have please drop me a line because I’d like to know where the hate comes from.
Â
Two weeks from today the winter meetings start and if you ask me Omar Minaya’s job and reputation are on the line as he has to come up with a front line starting pitcher, a bulldog reliever , and a catcher. Good luck !

If we want a quality pitcher, we better be willing to part with a few top prospects. (Milledge and/or Gomez) I’m okay with packages around them as long as we get a quality guy back.
Also, Castillo got 4 years, not 5. I’m sure it was just a typo.
Is Skill sets Jeffy In The Background Again?
Tell him to play with the Cyclones;
Leave the MLB decisions to Omar
I want to make one thing clear: I hated the signing of Glavine from the day the rumors started. I thought 4 years ago he was done and I was mostly right. He had a couple stretches where he was bearable but overall his numbers sucked compared to the money. I said it last year in the playoffs that if he gets an umpire that doesn’t give him 6 inches off the plate, he was screwed and that’s exactly what happened in his last game against the cards. And I’ll be honest with you guys, I boycotted pretty much every game he pitched this year because watching him pitch is like watching paint dry. Nibble nibble nibble on the outside corner with his slow and slower cheese. When i would watch him pitch, i would have the urge to stick needles in my eyes. I would rather watch Victor Zambrano pitch than Glavine. Even when he was a Met, he was a Brave at heart. What is his record and ERA against the Braves as a Met? Anyone have the ugly numbers for me?
On to the other stuff. I have no idea why they hate LoDuca so much. Personally, I would take him over the others but for God’s sake take him out of the #2 hole please! And yes, we need a front line starter and there are none on the free agent market. My biggest fear is that we give up the farm for a Joe Blanton. If we are giving up Millage (i don’t want this btw) and maybe gomez and Heilman plus god knows what else, we better get someone better than him. I still think we should give Heilman a shot as a starter provided he starts working on another pitch. Yes, I’ve lost respect for him over the past year but we need a starter, give him a shot at least! What scares me the most is that Maine and Perez have down years compared to last year and El Dookie and Pedro are injured a lot. If that happens, forget about any playoffs. I’m also really beginning to have my doubts about Pelfry and Humber. Seems like they will be ok bullpen guys but that’s about it. We get 1 legitimate prospect in our system over the past 20 years and we trade him for Zambrano while the Skankees have a farm full of pitching phenoms after having a barren farm system just a couple years ago. The baseball Gods can be cruel.
Frank from jersey, I am ok with blanton as long as john maine or oh pea are not inclued in discussions. We can get the same stats and production prob out of those two than with one of Blanton. Plus Blanton is just a larger version of Maine. And maine will be a superstar. if I’m omar, I hang the phone up in Beane’s ear is any talk starts with him. But I doubt we do any business with Oakland – Beane hates Omar’s guts.
If he trades Maine for anyone less than say, johan santana, I will not renew my season ticket package and move to canada. the only thing keeping me here are the Mets and baseball in the summer.
Hey, Kranepool, tell us how you really feel about Glavine.
I won’t miss TG for a second. I was hoping (in vain) to feel this way last year and it didn’t happen, but I’m happy nevertheless. As for LoDuca, I’ve been tired of him for a while now. He got way too much credit for his game-handling ability. His bat left a lot to be desired and we all know about his Pennington-like arm.
Castillo, with his surgically repaired knee, can only be better and he wasn’t exactly bad to begin with.
I’m afraid that now the Mets may have to part with more talent than they hoped for to get a decent pitcher and catcher. I doubt there’s any other way to get this done. Of course, that’s assuming (eek) we have enough to give.
I’m worried about the price tag as well for a top pitcher and a catcher I won’t mind dealing Heilman, Pelfrey, Humber or even Gomez but if LMilliz is delt that will bother me, I’m not saying he can’t be traded but I think he’s a top talent and he has tha tbad ass attitide that the Mets need. But if it means getting Santana or even Bedard I’m in
I can’t back this up ’cause I’m not a journalist nor do I have any inside connections to the team, but what I can piece together from newspaper columns over the last year or so is that the organization, from the Wilpons down to Willie and including Omar, can’t stand LoDuca because he’s a stand up guy who always speaks his mind to the press. If not for this I’m sure he would have been signed weeks ago.
No real reason to be pissed at Glavine. He was never the answer for the mets and had a mediocre stint. But, whether you think he was playing negotiation games or not,
(I didnt)he gave it his all and handled his business with class. Glad he’s not coming back though
Michael
I think some of the headlines LoDuca got annoyed the Mets. Too close to scandal, I think.
But, yeah, I never loved LoDuca, but I never thought he was a quitter and I can’t see anyone better out there.
Oh, and Steve, that number you were looking for
1-800-OVRTHRW
for Mackey.
The lack of homegrown pitching prospects, once a strength of the organization, has helped define the Mets lack of success over the last decades. Through developing them into starters or trading for quality ball players, they are what often makes a team great. Perhaps, the scouting staff/farm system needs a look at as well.
omar sucks, the mest suck, they quit and omar has done nothing to shake up his team of aging, listless senioritas.
and for all you losers who pay the 20% increase to watch the mutts – good luck.
btw, lo duca was jetisoned because he does not speak spanish…
85 wins tops in 08, bet on it.
