I was reading Jason Starks Rumblings and Grumblings column and it looks like the Omar is committed to make a big deal and bring back a top flight pitcher. For Johan Santana Stark mentions dealing Carlos Gomez, Fernando Martinez and Mike Pelfrey plus $18-$20mil a year for the Mets to secure Santana. If that’s the fact where do I sign? Omar would make that deal in a Santo Domingo minute are you kidding me? As for the contract, I would be willing to wave my 3 yr only policy of pitchers contract as pitching is so scarce that you would have to lock up Santana for (gulp!) 6 years at $20mil which is well within the Skill Set budget.
I want to wish everyone a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving and just to give my thanks for all of you who come by here and read the posts and leave comments and drop me e mails for that I am thankful for all of you and thankful that we all have the common bond of rooting for the New York Mets.

hells bells yeah I am down for that trade Mr EKS. BTW, have a great holiday tomorrow from the biggest troublemaker in the JWPs. Later!
A tested and proven ace starting pitcher who is still young and in his prime, for three prospects, even if they are highly touted, yes, I say do it.
Alex “Five-Tool, Can’t Miss” Escobar comes to mind.
95% of Mets “can’t miss” prospects fail. I bet Pelfry and Humber become no more than #4 or #5 pitchers and I bet Gomez and Martinez eventually turn into platoon type players and Millage will probably be in jail before his baseball career ends. Make the trade Omar!
I find that package too good to be true. As much as I hope they don’t trade Gomez, I’d trade him in that deal for Santana. What about D Train? The Fish organization is on the border of collapse, with the stadium issue and all. D Train might be cheaper. He’d love NY, and put him with the the Prof, and we may have something.
Steve,
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family. Always the worst day of the year to be living in Ireland.
Hey Steve,
Even though I am pretty new to the site, I respect your opinions and thoughts, and I’d like to wish you, your family, all the EKS readers, and their families a very happy Thanksgiving! Let’s hope we have lots to be thankful for after the ’08 season.
Paul
Pretty tough for me to get behind giving almost ALL of the mets young talent for one arm.
spo,
Mets talent has historically been OVERrated. Like I said above, what little talent we do have in the minors is really not all that great. We’ve got a couple Alex Escobars (Martinez and Gomez) and a couple Paul Wilsons (Humber and Pelfry). If you can land a Danny Haren or Johan Santana for them, pull the bloody trigger!
I don’t entirely disagree. I suppose It’s so unusual for the Mets to have a Phenom(Wright notwithstanding) that you have to see bright prospects leave. Truly, though, the Mets have needed an Ace for longer than I care to remember.
