Isaiah Thomas is laughing at this deal.
How does LMillz go from a trading chip for a front line pitcher to getting sent to a division rival for a non descript catcher and a hitter who due to no DH in the NL plays the outfield.?
I know Church had 43 doubles and 15 HR last season but how is this an upgrade over Milledge? This deal will defiantly come back and bite Omar and the Mets in the ass a la Scott Kazmir. This kid and that’s what he is a kid, has been malign from the day he was drafted and as he climbed up the system ladder just got better and better. All he needs is AB’s as his batting eye has improved and he was forced fed to go from a centerfielder to a corner outfielder and started to show promise. Omar will be on with MBFOTSH and the Dip Shit at 4PM I can’t wait to hear him spin this bullshit deal. I wish LMillz all the best in DC and I’ll be rooting for him. All you haters out there I hope you’re happy when Milledge goes .300/.380/.500 under the tutelage of Manny Acta.
Brian Schneider becomes the left handed platoon with Ramon Castro which makes me wonder how much better is Schneider over Johnny Estrada. Is Schneider that much better defensively than Estrada? Hell, this deal makes me wish they went through with the Torrealba signing. At least Castro will get more than 200 AB’s next season.
Again I find it hard to believe that (a) this is the best Omar could get for LMillz and (b) Why trade Millz to a team in your division?
The next move better be for a pitcher or Shea will come down faster than the Skill Sets wanted to.

EDDIE!, love the site…totally disagree…Schneider is one of the better defensive catchers in the gm…he threw out 40% of the runners last year…great staff leader..i compare church vs green, and that is def an upgrade…so we got 2 starters for a huge question mark…do you really think omar didnt try to trade millz for a top pitcher? its likely gomez is the chip with the most value…
Another POSSIBLE Jay Beuhner For Ken Phelps:
That’s what I called The Red Sox Deal for Eric Gagne’(Or Gag-Me)
I dont mind having schneider on the team hitting 8th and doing his defenisive thing. And I actually think ryan church is one of the more underated players in the national league.
With that being said I wouldnt want them for milledge. Im in the camp that milledge is gonna be the goods. Im not saying clear a space for him in the hall of fame. But he’ll probably be as good as church next year. And estrada might be better than estrada. Though thats debatable.
I’m not gonna go into a fire omar rant. I’ll reserve judgement on this team until spring training/opening day. But as of right now,I dont get the identity and feel of this team. But thats ok for now, cause I think theres still a bit of fine tuning to be done.
Id still rather have milledge as the starting rightfielder though come opening day.
Oh and one last thing to this long post. Can minaya please start making trades out of the division. I dont think theres another g.m. who trades as much witthin the div. as him. And its made a bit more frustrating when we keep giving up the younger players for win now guys.
sorry, quick edit. Meant estrada better than schneider there. My bad
I don’t get this deal? I thought we had enough of the Kazmir for Zambrano type deals?
Wasn’t Milledge untouchable in the Zito talks a year or so ago? So instead of packaging Milledge and a player for Zito and a title run 2 years ago, we get this?
Church is a poor man’s Rocco Baldelli!
A rare point of disagreement here. I like L Milz, and my daughter is stomping her feet in anger over the trade. But, we did get a defensive catcher, the first one we’ve had since Carter. And we got a guy who will make a nice platoon in right with Gomez. So, in my mind, they filled 1.5 holes. Now, if they trade Gomez, I’ll be furiuos. Trading 1 young outfielder to get better in other places, ok. DO NOT trade 2 studs, Omar. And I agree with your other post about Santana, stop the bull shit. Wright, Reyes, and Beltran are not being traded, and Santana is not coming here. So, let’s focus on reality, Willis and Haren. And not for Gomez!
OMFG!!! Please tell me this trade is some kind of early April Fools joke! I am flabberghasted!
Did we really just trade Millege?? Other teams secretly coveted him people and we let him go for a .. omg i have to stop typing, I think I’m gonna be sick
Loved Millege but think the trade will work out– suddenly next season’s lineup is set and looks tight without relying on production from a young outfielder. With more pop in RF and a solid left-handed catcher to the mix its an “American League lineup” again with a mature player in every position and a better defensive team then opened last year.
Reyes
Castillo
Wright
Beltran
Delgado
Alou
Church
Schnieder/Castro
Bench; Gotay, Easley, Chavez, Anderson, Gomez
Now Omar can focus on the pitching staff. If Gomez and Martinez develop the only offensive project in 09 will be first base. (Texiera?!). Millege never made his speed an asset and his damaging three game suspension down the stretch was another red flag after we thought he had matured. Church has gone through that development stage and emerged from the pack in 07.
During the September woes, it seemed here that the kid Church got most of his 2007 extra base hits kin clutch situations against our guys…right? So bringing over could pay a dividend there.
I like Lastings´s future, but in the critical last week of the season, didn’t he fail to run hard on a fair ball and had to settle for a double, then a moment later did not know how many outs there were?
We need “head cases” for 2008, but only if they are the kind that have their heads completely in the game.
I don’t see why everybody has their panties up in bunches up their rears. I have been a Met fan since Casey called the shots and Eddie Kranepool got $85,000 from them as a 17 yr old and they have ALWAYS made the dumbest mistakes when it came to trades. They once gave up a promising outfielder named Amos Otis for Joe Foy who was marginal at best.Foy disappeared after the first season and Otis had productive yrs with KC. How about a a hitting machine like Rusty Staub for an aging Fat Mickey Lolich who was well past his prime.Lolich lost 20 for the metsies and Rusty was, well far from rusty. Who could forget a finished Jim fregosi for the incomparable Nolan Ryan and my personal worst that still 30 yrs later it stings.. when M. Donald Grant traded Tom Terrific for Pat Zachry, Steve Henderson, Doug Flynn and Dan Norman. 4 turds for “The Franchise.” Don’t blame Minaya, blame the Met owners for hiring imcompetent GM’s that have made blunders when they make deals. The only trade that the Mets ever made that was great was when they obtained Keith Hernandez for Neil Allen and Rick Ownby. That didn’t happen because they were sharp, it was cuz Keith was on a drug scandal at the time along with Dave parker of the Pirates and others and St. Louis wanted to unload him. So relax and don’t fight the inevitable. The Mets can’t even draft well, Steve chilcott over Reggie Jackson…puh-leaze! They were almost handed Tom Seaver by the commissioner when Atlanta had signed him ilegally and his name was pulled out of a hat that included just 3 or 4 teams total that bidded for the young stud from Fresno in ‘66.I just feel happy that they haven’t traded David Wright for Dontrelle Willis or…David Wells. I’ve learned to live with the stupidities of my beloved Mets. No matter what they do there will never be a more satisfying season than 1969 when baseball was played like it oughta be.
