HEAVE-HO OMAR HEAVE-HO

By now we all know my feelings on Tom Glavine. I was embarrassed as a Mets fan the way the Skill Sets threw money at this phony to join the Mets. Glavine made my stomach turn with his bullshit soap opera way he dragged out his contract negotiation with the Mets last off season trying to get the Braves to at least come close to the Mets offer. So now he’s back to the place he never wanted to leave. If you’re a Mets fan who feels bad that Glavine is gone or that he was in some way a “good Met”, you’re a fool. Glavine didn’t give a shit about you, the organization or the City of New York. I don’t want to sound bitter but good fucking riddance Titan Tom, I can’t wait until we light your ass up in 2008.

I have no problem with Luis Castillo coming back even though 5 yrs is a lot for a guy with  a bad wheel. It still concerns me that it looks like seven of the eight starters from last years underachieving team are back in the fold and by the way someone please if you know what Paul LoDuca did that has made the Mets turn their back on him like have please drop me a line because I’d like to know where the hate comes from.

Two weeks from today the winter meetings start and if you ask me Omar Minaya’s job and reputation are on  the line as he has to come up with a front line starting pitcher, a bulldog reliever , and a catcher. Good luck !

WHO IS RUNNING THIS TEAM? ISIAH MINAYA?

The failures of last season are still with us as we find out that Yorvit Torrealba WILL NOT be a Met in 2008. We all thought this was a done a deal but it looks as though a physical exam put the kibosh on the deal. This got we wondering, Torrealba went on a big weight training program after the 2005 season to bulk up and gain strength to take over as the first string catchers in Denver. Last year he suffered from a shoulder injury that cost him in throwing out runners. I think you know where I’m going here, Was Torrealba using a performance enhancing drug during 2006 and due to testing and bad publicity off the PED’s in ‘07? And even though Omar has said that even if a free agent was linked to the Mitchell Report, if said player was someone the Met felt they needed to sign to make the team better he wouldn’t hesitate to sign maybe the failed physical plus inclusion on that list plus the Barry Bonds fiasco that faces baseball changed Minaya’s and the Mets thinking that we want no part of this guy? This is baseball in the 21st century, any player with that tears, pulls or strains a muscle is looked at as using a PED. Time will tell if that’s what the problem with YT.

With all that, the Mets are up the creek without a paddle as they must now go to plan C in the catching department. I can’t believe that Paul LoDuca would deven take a call from the Mets unless it was to make a better deal for himself some place else. I understand the Mets not wanting to sign LoDuca as he looks as if he’s breaking down physically and from trying to read between the lines of the stories coming out about the last couple of weeks of the Great Collapse his leadership qualities seem to be a myth and can the Mets really bring back the same team that represent the franchise so badly last season? I think not.

As much as I can’t wait for Tom Glavine to sign a contract with the Braves, I look over this team as say who else needs to go. I’m on record as not wanting Moises Alou back but he’s back Carlos Beltran is going no where, Lastings Milledge has been on the trade stroll in every pseudo deal the Mets are rumored to be making. D-Wright is a cornerstone. Even though Mets fans would like to put Jose Reyes though waterboarding to find out why he went into a funk he’s back in ‘08. That leaves second base and first base.

As much as I’d like to move Carlos Delgado, when you look at all the first basemen in baseball, offensively he still one of the better ones, defensively he leaves a lot to be desired but to deal him you would have to eat the majority of his $16 mil for ’08 and his ‘09 salary of $16mil or $4 mil buyout. The Skill Sets haven’t swallowed Guillermo Motas $3 mil deal you think they will belly up for Delgado’s dough?

So that leaves 2nd base. If you go after Luis Castillo hard and sign him then your brining back the same starting eight that peed their pants down the stretch last season. That sucks more than folding in the heat of pennant race. That is one of the reasons I wanted to sever ties with Alou and would love to deal Delgado the Mets need to get younger and defiantly meaner. The Mets need an instigator and Sean Avery type of baseball player. I don’t mean a guy who will instigate a fight during batting practice (although I’m not totally against it) but a guy who has that all important grit. A guy like David Eckstein. It looks like Eckstein is the guy the Mets need to add to Wright and Reyes another guy who gets his uni dirty and guy that will hustle and maybe a better example to Reyes than Luis Castillo was (if we believe what we’ve read bout that relationship)

Whether or not they bring in Eckstein or if Omar can pull off a blockbuster deal with Orioles to add Ramon Hernandez, Brain Roberts and th prize pitcher in Erik Bedard, the 25 man roster has to have a decedent turnover to get me excited about the Mets chances to win a pennant in 2008.

There is an outstanding story on Willie Randolph today in the Daily News detailing the pain Willie is going through this off season dealing with the collapse.

Put yourself in Randolph’s shoes. You were turned down after so many interviews for manager for not having a plan or expressing yourself clearly on how you would run your team. Then you finally get a job to manage but it’s for the cross town rival and a lot of the teams faithful is not happy your running the show. You do a good job and get your team to Game 7 of the NLCS put fail to get to the World Series but the season is a success because your team matters again. You put in rules in your first season that were a bit rigid, then you kind of let up a bit after the vets come to you looking for compromise. What do you get in return? A team that chokes down the stretch as players don’t run out ground balls or make stupid mental errors and generally play with their heads up their ass. Now the season is over and your team is a laughing stock. Your boss waits to tell you if your coming back next season as he needs to talk to his boss who owns the team to see where he stands. If it’s his ass or yours well hasta la vista baby. You have to wait a couple of days but the GM tells you your job is safe for now but the leash is very short. You have to have your team ready on opening day and you must get off to a fast start because you could be on the unemployment line by Memorial Day. What do you do? Well, for one thing you better start cracking the whip and don’t bullshit the fans by telling them “we played hard” or “we battled” because I for one won’t have any patience for that line of horse shit next year.

Sorry for the long post but I missed being here Friday and yesterday. Friday I had to go to our headquarters in Queens for a class in what to do when mangement is breaking the law and fucking with you. Plus a course on approiate behavior in the office. As a male I am not allowed to call the ladies at work Honey, Sweetheart or Luv as some women feel that’s offensive. I can’t tell them how nice they look or how I love it when they wear those jeans. My boss (a female) nearly had a coronary when I came to the office after not being there in about six months and proceed to hug and kiss all the women I worked with there. Neither I nor the ladies had any objection to that as all the Latina’s call me Papi so much that I now spit into my hands before I type. This politically correct bullshit is the ruination of this country.

SO LONG CAPTAIN RED ASS

According to 1050 ESPN Radio here in NYC, the Mets have agreed to a 3 yr deal with Yorvit Torrealba . It looks like Torrealba will be the first string catcher with Ramon Castro backing him up and seeing more playing time than he has in recent years.

I have no problem with this signing in fact it’s a plus for the Mets as it seems that Omar was worried about Paul LoDuca breaking down and his bad attitude down the stretch last season.

Torrealba gets high marks for his ability to handle a pitching staff and it seems he is more of a positive influence than LoDuca was.

WELL DONE DOUG MELVIN

The Milwaukee Brewers pulled off a shrewed move to day by signing LHP Randy Choate to a contract. Choate was a minor league FA with impressive numbers and someone I thought Omar should look at. Now he can see him when the Mets play the Brew Crew

A-BOMB

With Broadway stage hands shutting down the theatre scene here in NYC, what’s a gadfly like John Sterling to do? Well, how about going on the MMD show to announce that A-Fraud back to the Highlanders is a lead pipe cinch.

It seems that Scott Bore-us has finally fucked up. To get the Highlanders to even talk turkey A-Fraud had to leave Bore-us in the back of the limo and negotiate himself with Hank, Hal and Pee Wee. FUCK YOU t-shirts for everyone.

From listening to Algonquin John and MBFOTSH and Little Bea-atch (what an awful looking sweater the bea-atch had on today by the way just a puke inducing brown argyle ) it seems that the $350 mil price tag thrown out by Bore-us has not gotten a nibble from GM’s around baseball, in fact it has become a joke and teams from Independent Leagues and Triple A Toledo who have made joke offers to A-Fraud (can’t you see Cynthia in her husband beater T grabbing Bore-us acting like Joe Pecci in Goodfella’s “What is my husband a clown”? “Does he make you laugh”?) and you can tell he feels like a fool.

So good for baseball that A-Fraud is back to a team and fan base that deserves this phony.

COULD THIS BE TOM GLAVINE’S GREATEST MOMENT AS A MET?

If Titan Tom signs with the Braves before Dec 1 the Mets get the Braves #1 pick in the June Free Agent Draft. If he doesn’t sign before that date then Omar has to make a calculated move and offer him arbitration and hope this money hungry hump turns it down so he can “play at home”. Not everyone in the Dirty South is crazy about Has Been Tommy coming back for a minimum of $10 mil for his farewell tour. I guess I guy can’t get enough swag eh Tommy boy?

CATCH THIS!

It looks like from all reports that Ramon Castro and Yorvit Torrealba will be the tag team catchers for the Mets in 2008 and I’m on Omar’s side on this move.

When it comes to catchers it defense first and offense is extra as far as I’m concerned. Torrealba has a rep as a very good receiver of pitches and handles the pitching staff very well. Last year with a bum shoulder, YT threw out just 17.6 % of base stealer’s (LoDuca tossed out 19 % ) figure his shoulder is healthy and Torrealba will increase that percentage almost double. YT is 28 yrs old and all he costs is money which helps the Mets save their trading chips for pitching.

Most fans have a problem with this alleged move from an offensive angle but with YT and Castro your still capable of getting 20-25 HR’s and 75-80 RBI from the catcher position.

If your going to pissed off at anything about this move it’s that Jesus Flores is a National and not a Met.

MY BAD D-WRIGHT

First off, as I said in the comments in the previous post on David Wright and his knit hat, it seems like he was wearing the hat as a gesture to the children he met at NYU Medical Center yesterday so I do apologize for cracking jokes about the hat. However, it would have been a good idea if Kevin Burkhardt and Wright mentioned why he had the cap on.

Omar did a number on the Highlanders by wining and dining Jorge Posada and his wife at Le Cirque making Hank Steinbrenner double up on the Lucky Strikes and offered Posada an extra year, so it’s 4yr/$52+ which is a year more than the Bronx Dirtbags wanted to go.

Meanwhile the Mets are still backstop-less as Omar is making Paul LoDuca sweat this out.  I wouldn’t mind seeing Ramon Hernandez come over in a deal from the O’s.

That’s it for me as I am battling a bad head cold that has my sinus pounding, hopefully more tomorrow.

I GOTTA ASK……………….

I just finished watching Mets Hot Stove and David Wright has this knit ski hat on the whole shpw. WHAT THE FUCK? Has he converted to Islam? Kareem Abdul Wright? Very very strange.

Ron Darling should take advantage of the diet food that was the sponsor Christ, when he steps on a scale it screams out ONE AT A TIME!!!!!!!!!!

Ed Coleman looks like a retired cop who spends his days at the end of the bar at the local Blarney Stone.

One bright spot was Kevin Burkardt who did a nice job as host.

Burkhardt had a snippet of an interview he did with Petey, he then came back live to say “hear the whole interview with Pedro Martinez on December 3rd at 7PM” I nearly peed on myself. December 3rd? Is the SNY schedule so full that we have to wait until December to see this interview? What a fucking joke.

I got to find a pic of Wright with this cuffi on. Who does he think  he is Jim Brown?

GRAB A LOG FOR HOT STOVE BASEBALL

Not much going on in Metsville today just the usual trade rumors that has Lasting Milledge Mike Pelfrey/Philip Humber going to any team that will part with a pitcher with a pulse. It’s only November and I’m already drained by the rumors that run through everyone’s head. Nothing will happen until the Winter Meetings in early December so all this speculation is really fucking tedious.

With that our favorite network SNY will begin their weekly Mets Hot Stove show tonight at 6:30PM. At least there is an upgrade in host as Kevin Burkhardt will take over from goof ball Matt Yaloff and D-Wright, Ron Darling and Jeffey Wilpon will be a guest. As long as they stick to METS NEWS and nothing else (that means no Seth Everett and the Creepy Bill Madden) the show will be at least watchable.

NON-METS- Eli Manning was not the totally responsible for the Giants loss yesterday to the Cowpokes but those delay of game penalties were an embarrassment. The thing about Eli he looks like he hates playing football. It’s like he was thrown into the family business and it just a fucking chore to play. Tony Romo on the other hand has the world by the short hairs. Even when he’d screw up he had a smile on his face like “give me that coverage again and I’ll light your ass up” which he did. One guy is was oozing confidence on the field and the other looks like he has a stomach ache.
