The BEST thing Omar can accomplish besides a Major Trade, would be to string Jeffy up by his ankles from a Shea Upper Level Ramp:

It might get Jeffy to thinking that Omar runs the Baseball Side & NOT that Twerp.
Reply - Quote

So now that the Yankees are dropping out on Johan Santana, the Reds Sox can relax, after all, they have their entire dominant team from last year signed and ready to go.

Maybe in this new environment, Omar can convince the Twins to deal Santana out of their League to the Mets...offering Heilman, plus one of the three main kid pitchers (Mulvey, Humber, Pelfrey), plus either Gomez or Martinez. So the Twins get the low-cost, top-prospect center fielder they covet to replace Hunter, and two solid young pitchers, one of them already tested, and we get an ace with a big paycheck but an even bigger upside.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('22897','David in Manhattan','So now that the Yankees are dropping out on Johan Santana, the Reds Sox can relax, after all, they have their entire dominant team from last year signed and ready to go. \r\n\r\nMaybe in this new environment, Omar can convince the Twins to deal Santana out of their League to the Mets...offering Heilman, plus one of the three main kid pitchers (Mulvey, Humber, Pelfrey), plus either Gomez or Martinez.
I guess I don't get excited about signing 36 yr old catchers who are breaking down physically and at the plate.

I don't have a problem with Schinder so much as I do with the price tag.
Reply - Quote

I agree with Drew and JRJ... But then again, this is the same brilliant website that was in favor of not signing Paul Lo Duca, but LOVED the Yorvit Torrealba deal. I guess the plan is to have 13 catchers who can hit a combined .211 and have a combined 19 HR's.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('22712','Paul','I agree with Drew and JRJ...
I think Drew is right on. We need to expect more than dealings for 2nd tier pitchers and trading top prospects .235 hitting catchers!

Xavier Nady and Ian Snell?

This is why the Mets are forever bound to be losers. Stupid fans with no expectations, and no urge to rise up in dissent.
I agree, Rich, sounds like a plan, but my guess is that Omar will be willing to move Gomez to bring in Bedard as the new starting pitcher.

Any chance we can see the kid Martinez in the Mets' outfield this year?

A platoon for Church would seem to be in order, as I see that fully 14 of his 15 homers in 2007 were against righties (a solid .287 .360 .506) and he was much less effective against lefties (.229 .316 .339). BTW, he finished very strong in 2007, pounding it at .357 the last 28 days (.357 .460 .786)...as we saw up close and personal...
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('22487','David in Manhattan','I agree, Rich, sounds like a plan, but my guess is that Omar will be willing to move Gomez to bring in Bedard as the new starting pitcher. \r\n\r\nAny chance we can see the kid Martinez in the Mets\' outfield this year?\r\n\r\nA platoon for Church would seem to be in order, as I see that fully 14 of his 15 homers in 2007 were against righties (a solid .287 .360 .506) and he was much less effective against lefties (.229 .316 .339).
I'm not a huge X fan. The guy is a sub-par outfielder, and probably projects to .270 with 12 HR and 60 RBI in a part-time role. I'd much rather give the righty part of RF to Gomez, and see what the kid can do. You can't over-estimate the value of speed. He is a fantastic outfielder with a strong arm, who can cover a lot of ground. Plus, he's hell on the base paths. I"ll take Snell and they can keep X.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('22462','Rich','I\'m not a huge X fan.
I don't think the Mets have the pieces for that unless the Pirates move Bay. They're pretty stocked in young outfielderds, but its a nice idea.

Maybe Castro, Heilman, Mulvey, and another pitcher? The Pirates already have an oft-injured productive hitting Catcher in Ryan Doumit, but its not like Paulino is putting up huge numbers as the starter. If you do that, you might even still be able to spin Snell and Gomez for Bedard. That would be a huge upgrade almost across the board except at C, where you could have an acceptable platoon between Estrada and Schneider, and the bullpen, which would be worth the gamble of losing Heilman for that upgrade.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('22460','Mark','I don\'t think the Mets have the pieces for that unless the Pirates move Bay. They\'re pretty stocked in young outfielderds, but its a nice idea. \r\n\r\nMaybe Castro, Heilman, Mulvey, and another pitcher? The Pirates already have an oft-injured productive hitting Catcher in Ryan Doumit, but its not like Paulino is putting up huge numbers as the starter.
