Maybe in this new environment, Omar can convince the Twins to deal Santana out of their League to the Mets...offering Heilman, plus one of the three main kid pitchers (Mulvey, Humber, Pelfrey), plus either Gomez or Martinez. But then again, this is the same brilliant website that was in favor of not signing Paul Lo Duca, but LOVED the Yorvit Torrealba deal. Any chance we can see the kid Martinez in the Mets’ outfield this year?

The guy is a sub-par outfielder, and probably projects to .270 with 12 HR and 60 RBI in a part-time role. I'd much rather give the righty part of RF to Gomez, and see what the kid can do. You can't over-estimate the value of speed. He is a fantastic outfielder with a strong arm, who can cover a lot of ground. Plus, he's hell on the base paths. They're pretty stocked in young outfielderds, but its a nice idea. Maybe Castro, Heilman, Mulvey, and another pitcher? The Pirates already have an oft-injured productive hitting Catcher in Ryan Doumit, but its not like Paulino is putting up huge numbers as the starter. If you do that, you might even still be able to spin Snell and Gomez for Bedard.
