Still no sign of a top flight starter falling into Omar’s lap and the rumors are making my head spin. Instead of rehashing all the bullshit flying around the world wide web let me just compact my thoughts:
- If it takes trading Carlos Gomez, Fernando Martinez and a pitcher (the combo meal of Pelfrey/Humber/Heilman) to land either Johan Santana-Dan Heren-Erik Bedard then Omar HAS to pull the trigger
- If one of those pitchers can’t be had then I would love to see Aaron Heilman get a shot at the rotation as I feel Mike Pelfrey, Jorge Sosa and Pedro Feliciano are more than able to handle the 8th inning role.
- Sign Freddie Garcia high risk high reward and let the Mets doctors and training staff work with him and get him ready for the second half of the season
- I wouldn’t let David Wells but a ticket to watch a game at Shea STAY AWAY!!!!

Of course, the possibility remains that we should not give up our young talent and write next year off. That MAY make sense if the following year had a bumper crop of free agents. Tough with a new stadium, but Just a thought.
