The Mets have 1 more year until they are in the new stadium which means this year isn’t as important as next year. Omar can stand pat with this team which is still a good team and will be competitive (most likely) all year. Next year, however, with the new stadium open, Omar will need to have some pretty new names out there and a *very* good team. There will be better free agents next off season also (barring contract extensions, re-signings).

It is my opinion that this year is “we’re playing with what we have which is good enough..for now” and then next offseason, we will bring in some marquee names and make a solid run at the World Series. I really don’t think Omar wants to give up the farm for 1 player. I think he’ll hold on to our best prospects for at least 1 more year and give us something like Livan Hernandez or Mark Prior and say all is fixed.

Again, this is just my gut feeling and I hope I’m wrong. I want to see Santana or Bedard (pref Santana as he has proven he is worth all the prospects where Bedard has only had 1 good year I think?)
