YYYYYAAAAAAAAWWWWWWNNNNN IS THE MITCHELL REPORT OUT YET?

Can’t wait to read the Mitchell Report so I can use it to line my parakeets cage. Either that or put it in my file cabinet under Who Gives A Shit.

Baseball fans could care less about this report. Fans are so concerned about performance enhancing drugs that they packed major league stadiums like never before wearing $150 uni tops with their favorite players name on them, sitting in $75 to $200 seats sucking down $5 hotdogs and drinking $7 swill made by Anheuser-Busch. If they are real lucky they can go home after root, root rooting for the home team and take their own PED for a night of long lasting passion. What a crock of shit.

As with most of the ways this country is going the Mitchell Report is falls in line with it’s unconstitutional way as they tried getting medical data on players from teams and using scare tactics to get people to testify like Kirk Radomski, the former Mets clubbie who was distributing PED to players. Radomski was looking at doing time but when he pleaded out it was with the stipulation that he work with the Mitchell investigators. So now we sit and wait for the names to come out and you know what it won’t make a goddamn difference to baseball fans. All this does is make the Used Car Salesman beat his chest and demand to be called Kennesaw Mountain Selig and scream “NOT ONLY DID I SCREW THE PLAYERS BUT I MADE $6 BILLION OFF THEIR ENHANCED ASS TOO”. . It gives George Mitchell another notch in his belt and moves him closer to being the U.S. ambassador to Ireland when the new administration takes over. It also gives our bloated congressmen a chance to congratulate themselves for the dog and pony show they foisted on us in their hearings to embarrass the MLBPA and it’s players. I’m sure they will all find a public restroom to party in..

WE HAVE HOT STOVE BASEBALL AND MORE AT SPORTSTALKNY

While we wait for Omar Minaya to put a top flight starter, solid reliever and good right handed bat who can play OF and first base under our Christmas tree  I want to give you a heads up on what we have on SPORTSTALKNY this week and the next few weeks as well.

This Thursday (a special day as we go back to Wednesday next week) at 9PM EST  Neil Best who writes the sports media column for NEWSDAY and the highly informative and funny WATCHDOG blog will be a guest as will Zack Hample who wrote two books How to Snag Major League Baseballs where Zack explains his collecting of baseballs at every ball park he visited and Watching Baseball Smarter where he goes into the inner working of the game on the field.

Next Wednesday December 19th  Ed Willes author of The Rebel League: History of the World Hockey Association will be a guest. I’m looking forward to this as I remember the New York Raiders who played at Madison Square Garden and their games were on WMCA 570 with believe it or not John Sterling as their play by play man

On Wednesday December 26th  Denny McLain the last 30 game winner in baseball history will be our guest. This should be a terrific spot as McLain has had quite a life as he lays out in his book I Told You I Wasn’t Perfect. McLain won his 30th games in 1968 on the Game of the Week with Dizzy Dean doing color commentary by beating the Oakland A’s 5-4 on September 14th 1968

So please tune in and join us click on the link here SPORTSTALKNY and listen to the show, join in the chat room or gives us a call at 631 615-4799

THIS SHOULD BE FUN: LO DUCA TO THE NATS

The Nationals signed Paul LoDuca to a one year deal so says the Washingto Post. The Nats want LoDuca to mentor Jose Flores as he makes his adjustment to everyday backstop. Jim Bowden is putting together a “Longest Yard” kind of team in DC. The National-Mets games have become a must have ticket.

HEY HE’S A MENCH!

The Brewers have DFA Kevin Mench. Mench would make a good tag team partner for Ryan Church as he banged out LHP to the tune of .314/.343/..558 in 156 AB In 70 AB with runners in scoring postition Mench (what a name just for the headlines alone I want him here) hit .329/.375/.571

UNCLE OMAR WANTS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omar Minaya has taken off the gloves and will now get down to some bare knuckles negotiation when the 2008 Free Agent Draft goes off this June. According to a story in NEWSDAY yesterday Omar is not going to go along with the edict from the Commissioner‘s Office about slotting for draft picks.

This change in philosophy comes mostly from not signing RHP Pedro Beato two years ago. Beato was a drafted in the 17th round of the 2005 draft out of Xavieran H.S. in Bay Ridge Brooklyn and was a draft and follow.  When Minaya was ready to give Beato a $1 mil signing bonus it was denied by the Commissioners Office specifically by Frank Coonelly who is now the President of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Minaya wanted to fight this but it seems the Skill Sets who are pro-Selig and do whatever he directs them to do did not want to rock the boat on this. So Beato was drafted by the Orioles in the 1st round of the 2006 draft and signed for more than the bonus the Mets were offering. This had to piss Minaya off and I would bet he had a sit down with the Skill Sets and Uncle Saul and stated his case about giving in to the slotting of picks since the only teams keeping up their end were the so called small market teams.

So with the Mets having two first round picks Omar knows how important it is for him and his staff to draft a high impact player and money is the least of the Mets problems.

The documentary MATHEMATICALLY ALIVE-A STORY OF FANDOM is now out on DVD. This fantastic look into not only Mets fandom but what it’s like to put your heart and soul into rooting for a sports team. Congrat to Joe and Kathy for taking first prize at the NJ Film Fest @ Rutgers U

Don’t forget this THURSDAY Night at 9pm SPORTSTALKNY will be on the air via USTREAM and our guests will be Neil Best of NEWSDAY and Author Zack Hample. The chat room will be running and we will take your calls at 631 615-4799 Com’on over and bring a friend

I CAN SEE PARADISE BY THE DASHBOARD LIGHT

Matt Cerrone at MetsBlog .com posts today that Johan Santana has let it be known that he wants to play for the New York Mets. So here we go again as Sanatana becomes the girl we all had a crush on in school flirting, giving us blue balls, and then flirting again.

From what I’m gathering here the Mets hold the lead as Santana has a no trade clause in his contract so even if the Red Sox and Highlanders (no matter what Pack-a-Day Hank says the team from the South Bronx are still active in this hunt) agree on players  Santana could still turn down the trade and force the Twinkies to send him to Flushing. Sure the Twins could just keep him but with all the rhetoric so far Santana becomes a big distraction so why not get what you can from the Mets.

I don’t think the Skill Sets have a problem paying Santana the $20 plus mil a year (they better not because money should never be an issue any more in Flushing as Freddie, Jeffy and Uncle Saul are sitting on a fucking gold mine) it more the years and as you know I don’t like giving more than 3 years to a pitcher but there are exceptions and Johan Santana would be an exception. I was dead set against Barry Zito getting the years and money he wanted and Omar was right in turning his back on that deal but I believe Omar could work a 5yr with 2 yr options and juice up the dough to get Santana here. At this point it may not even cripple the Mets fame system either especially if Santana forces Minnesota to ship him to Queens.

I hope this gets done soon one way or another as I can’t take all this teasing my nuts are killing me!!!!!!

CHECK OUT SPORTSTALKNY  our guest this week are Neil Best of NEWSDAY and Zack Hample author and baseball collector. This Thursday night at 9PM EST Go USTREAMTV and join the show thru our chat room or call us on SKYPE or at our call in number 631 615-4799

BALL OF CONFUSSION

I’m starting to feel a little sorry for Omar Minaya and the Mets front office because if I’m confused on which way to go as far as the 2008 pitching staff should be structured I’m sure they are popping aspirins like tic tac’s over the same dilemma.

The picture out of Nashville is more muddled than ever. Everyday there seems to be a new “Ace” coming to the Mets. On Monday the Mets were out of the Santana race and I was pissed. Thursday they were back in the hunt and I was ready to trade anyone that didn’t have the last name Wright, Reyes or Beltran for him, hell I was ready to send Carlos Gomez, Fernando Martinez, Mike Pelfrey, Phil Humber, Kevin Mulvey, the Apple in CF, Gary Cohen, the 1969 World Series Trophy, a portrait of Joan Payson, a sandwich a week for life from Momma’s of Corona, and a lifetime of oil and lube jobs from the any garage of Carl Pohland’s choice in the Iron Triangle for the right to give Johan Santana a 20 yr/$850 mil dollar deal to be the Pitcher Who Save Flushing. But this morning when I looked in the mirror I said to myself “You’re more fucked up than Amy Winehouse”

I’m a pitching junkie. I have a terrible jones for pitching. Big League, Minor League, Little League, Stickball League it doesn’t matter I need a pitching fix. Fastballs with bite that hit the outside of the plate low and away are my 8-ball. A 12 to 6 curve is my LSD (Blyleven in the Sky with Diamonds!) A two hit, no walks, eight strikeout game leaves me comfortably numb. So that’s why all this trade talk leaves me the need to dry out.

I can’t tell you if Carlos Gomez or Fernando Martinez will become stars although this organizations track record on position players would lead you to believe they won’t. I still don’t know what Mike Pelfrey or Phil Humber can accomplish but I do know that they have mastered the bush leagues and either have to be on the 25 man roster or be traded. Kevin Mulvey, Deolis Gurerra? All I know is what I read about them and both are talked up as solid ML players. I watched Brant Rustich and Eddie Kunz pitch at Brooklyn last year and even though the numbers weren’t great, they both looked like they could come in from the bullpen and throw gas and maybe surprise a few people come March and make the big squad.

As Mets fans, do we really know what we have as far a talent in the farm system or are we just brain washed by a media that for whatever reasons hates our team, our league and us fans. One the best moments this past week was on Wednesday during Mike and the Mad Dog Show, Bob Huessler was on screen to give his 20/20 update. MBFOTSH was giving Huessler a hard time about the Mets not knowing what their were doing and the inability to land a top pitcher and all the rest of his tired bullshit act. Usually Huessler plays along with Francessa but not on this day. Huessler lit into Mike’s ample ass that if the Mets dropped out a deal by saying the money is too much that he would be ripping the Mets left and right and by Francessa saying that it’s good that the Highlanders are underdogs he was so full of shit. Bravo Bob, it’s about time you put these two not aging well Diva’s in their place.

So back to the pitching staff, as of today as GM of the Mets I’m ready to let Aaron Heilman make the rotation on the back end and move Mike Pelfrey into the pen and maybe find a guy for the 8th inning or just see what shakes out in spring training (by the way do you want to bet that Petey is reading all this Mets need and ace stuff and is taking it as an insult to him? I have this vision of Petey posting these stories on a wall and playing the “Rocky theme” –gonna fly now-in the background as he works out)  I’m telling Bill Smith , Billy Beane and Andy MacPhail  to take their second division clubs and shove all their pitchers up their ass. I’M THE NEW YORK METS BABY, MY TEAM PLAYS IN THE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD YOU KNOW WHAT? I MAY JUST BUY ALL THREE OF YOUR BULLSHIT TEAMS AND KEEP WHAT I WANT AND PUT THE REST OF EM ON EBAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Sorry for shouting but I’m tired of the disrespect of my franchise. Rooting for the Mets is like having kids, I can criticze them but if someone outside the family does it IT”S WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NASHVILLE BLUES

Still no sign of a top flight starter falling into Omar’s lap and the rumors are making my head spin. Instead of rehashing all the bullshit flying around the world wide web let me just compact my thoughts:

  • If it takes trading Carlos Gomez, Fernando Martinez and a pitcher (the combo meal of Pelfrey/Humber/Heilman) to land either Johan Santana-Dan Heren-Erik Bedard then Omar HAS to pull the trigger
  • If one of those pitchers can’t be had then I would love to see Aaron Heilman get a shot at the rotation as I feel Mike Pelfrey, Jorge Sosa and Pedro Feliciano are more than able to handle the 8th inning role.
  • Sign Freddie Garcia high risk high reward and let the Mets doctors and training staff work with him and get him ready for the second half of the season
  • I wouldn’t let David Wells but a ticket to watch a game at Shea STAY AWAY!!!!
  • Don’t forget to check out SPORTSTALKNY tonight at 9PM EST as we kick off the first program We did a dry run last night and it was terrific should be even better tonight click on the this link USTREAM and click on the SPORTSTALKNY link or go right to SPORTSTALKNY and follow the links Whatever way just get there and join in either on the chat room or call in on SPYPE

Great stuff last light on GothamSportsRadio with Mike Silva, Mark Healy, Howard Megdal and myself as we got in to spirited conversation on the Mets. check it out
