Happy New Year to one and all and I hope you all have a healthy and prosperous new year. Let’s hope that the 2008 baseball season ends better than ‘07 and that this end of an era at Shea Stadium doesn’t also end the era of loyal Mets fans.
I was reading METSBLOG today as I do about 100 times every day and Matt Cerone mentioned that the Mets will not have a winter caravan this winter or a mini camp. One of the events I’ve always wanted the Mets to stage was a winter Fan Fest. Now I have no idea what the cost is to run such an event in time or money but I’d have to think it would be a great advertising tool and good will move for the team and it’s fan base. I always thought an event like this right around the Presidents Day holiday would be a big hit. You could have it at the Javitis Center and bring in a few current players, old time Mets and broadcasters for autographs and Q & A sessions. You think they would be a line for John Maine, Oliver Perez or D-Wright and Jose Reyes for an autograph? How about Keith Hernandez or Darryl Strawberry? How about if The Franchise showed up? How many season ticket packages do you think the Mets could sell at an event like this? I’m just puzzled why they have never held a day or two day even like this.
When I think about it  I get very worried that the organization is ready to kick long fans to the curb once Shea closes it’s doors. And from reading the comments on METSBLOG I’m not alone.
There seems to be a very strong feeling that $iti Field may fall under the “be careful what you wish for” category. As much as many of us have fond memories of Shea Stadium we all agree that the Mets needed a new home but with about 17,000 less seats and the need for corporate greed to be fed will the real Mets fan be able to gain access to the new place? We already see the signs of the Skill Sets not really caring about us as they raised ticket prices before our tears of the Great Choke of’07 dried. What happens to fans like me who buy the seven pack every year will I still get my letter in the mail requesting my presence at $iti Field for a minimum of seven games or does my seat go to some fat cat who wouldn’t know Bruce Bosclair from a chocolate eclair?
I don’t mean to spoil your New Year Day with this woe is us post but after forty plus years of Metsfandom I go by the motto “hope for the best but expect the worst”
By the way I hope you like the Kranepool Society NEW YEARS GIRLS as this summer I will turn 50 years old so I’m warning you all that I will be in full mid life criss mode. It all started last year when I discovered I can’t eat bacon cheeseburgers at 1 am anymore so I’ve changed my eating habits and with exercise I’ve dropped 90 lbs. I’ve gone from an offensive guard to a strong safety.
So if you see anything that is more dopey than usual or sexist in the future just remember that I’ll be getting my AARP card in the mail soon and that’s payback enough.  Â

As I run mostly a Red Sox Blog, with Traditional Latin Mass Material thrown in & being Originally from Brooklyn & having seen Shea Stadium from the days of Borden’s Coupons & $1.30 Upper Level Seats, I will state that while Old Shea’s a DUMP, & a new park is needed, the Skill Sets are being consumate douches by kicking REAL Fans to the curb. Tying Omar’s hands & rushing the “Ebbets Field Of Schemes” called $iti Field, makes me wonder just how often I have to use MlB’s Official Ticket Scalper, Stub Hub, to see the Mets.
As I look at it, the move from Shea to $iti, may be a move of 20 Feet, but will be treated by me as a Franchise Shift, ala the Brooklyn Dodgers & New York Giants;
When I went to 2 Games @ Fenway Park, this season, I used the Green Line “T” Trolleys to Kenmore Square & felt as if I was riding Trolleys to see The Brooklyn Dodgers @ Ebbets Field. I know that on the old BMT Lines Map, the BMT Brighton Franklin Line to Prospect Park Station, was the #7 Line & now known as The Franklin Shuttle of MTA-NYC Transit;
WHAT is so “BROOKLYN” about $iti Field? Where are The Trolleys on Roosevelt Avenue?
In Boston, I get more of a “Brooklyn” feel, than I ever will get in Queens;
Maybe it’s time to hang The Wilpons in Effigy, or hold Jeffy by his ankles from a Shea Stadium Upper Level Ramp, as it’s High Enough off the Ground;
The End Of Shea Stadium, will be BITTERSWEET, Indeed;

If it takes you turning 50 to get pictures like that, I propose that every year is Steve’s 50th birthday.
Who’s with me?
I for one would love, if Brooklyn hosted another baseball team.(ala the Cyclones) The Mets have stubbed out any reminder of Baseball as for the people, and have embraced the “anything for money” principle to a point which I never really thought possible. Shea may have become a dump, but at least you Felt SOMETHING. A shiny, new but smaller stadium with Luxury boxes makes you feel something too…..USED.
yeah i got the sat plan and when i called to reup my tix they told me that they havent decided what to do about us partial plan holders even though they advertised that if u bought partial plans in 07 & 08 u would get dibs at citi in 09 the mets r taking us 4 granted ne body else here getting the runaround ?

Could be worse….
Which one is Anna Benson?
Merry new year, my dear friend! I also can’t eat bacon cheeseburgers at 1 am, b/c well basically a.) i’m hardly ever up that late anymore LOL and b.) I’m shunning meat and animal products for at least two months. Also alcohol. Say it aint so Coop!! LOL. And Michael Leggett, you are my new hero…
I will run those ladies out when appropriate but I hope I don’t have to bring back the “SLUMPBUSTER” in ‘08
My dear Coop, now you go on the wagon after I bought stock in Grey Goose? AGGGHHH. Believe me my dear, clean living is not all what it is cracked up to be.
I think those five you’ve got pictured make a pretty good rotation. I’m a little concerned about our Number 4, but I heard that Rick Peterson can fix her in fifteen minutes.
