NYC has always been a baseball town. But right now, both the Mets and Highlanders are hard pressed to get any ink, radio or TV time as the New York Football Giants have taken over this city.
Yesterday I was at MSG to watch the Celtics smack the Knickerbockers around as the Knicks, especially Eddie Curry who was scared of Kendrick Perkins, played so uninspired that even though I was sitting in section 408 in what was a full house at the World’s Most Famous Arena, I could hear not just the bounce of the basketball but Rajon Rondo call out plays for the C’s.
But the quiet of a holiday afternoon ass kicking was interrupted by the introduction of NY Giants players on hand. Plaxico Buress (who held up his hand to the Jumbotron and pointed to his empty ring finger) RW McQuaters, Steve Smith and Aaron Ross all took bows and hand shakes from Paul Pierce and Ray Allen as the Garden crowd rose from their seats and cheered.
Many in the crowd had nice fresh Giants caps on and bright red and blue ny sweatshirts. Even out on Broadway after the game I saw many a New Yorker sporting Giants colors. Just proves my point that this is an event town and many of my fellow city dwellers are great bandwagon jumpers.
I saw this on MetsBlog and nearly puked up my lunch:
{According to Impacto Deportivo, free-agent LHP Odalis Perez will meet with executives from the Mets, who had been scouting him this winter in the Dominican Republic.
In 26 starts for the Royals last season, Perez was 8–11 with a 5.57 ERA through 137 innings, during which he struck out 64 and walked 50.
He has not finished a season with an ERA below 4.00 since 2004, when he was 7–6 with a 3.25 ERA in 31 starts for the Dodgers.}
Are you fucking kidding me? Is this Rip Van Minaya’s idea of an upgrade? Mets management better hope the Giants win the Super Bowl and the Celtics win the NBA Championship (I have no hope of the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup) so as to take the edge off the foul mood I’m in about my favorite baseball team.
Oh yeah, Endy Chavez signed for 2 yrs. Go back to sleep now Omar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
