Frank:
Since you asked, I took a look...very interesting, and yo make a lot of good points. So did the other guy..

Two quick things.

1. you should not have criticized his website.

2. baseball is more than just winning. it is the game that keeps us riveted, not just wins. how else did we survive the decades of lean years (I go back to 1962, so you know, the wins were few and far between, but the love for the players, the drama, the tradition, The Game, made it all matter so much. And when we won a few, so much the better.
So part of the decision-making about the Randolph situation at season-end has to do with patience, loyalty, respect, and other intangibles...not just "did he get the team into the play-offs?" Also, if you dump Randolph for the 2007 season-end collapse, you limit your pool of serious applicants, or have to pay more, cause most managers don't want to be judged and dumped so quickly, a la Steinbrenner.

Seeking wins (and heightened performance) by any means necessary (not your phrase, but you get the idea) is what leads to cheating and steroid use, bad sportsmanship (like baserunner A-Rod trying to unsettle the opponent's third baseman by screaming "I got it" in his ear), beanball-ing (as opposed to brushing back) and bat-throwing, fistfights, corked bats, etc....things that may produce a win, even a pennant, but diminish The Game.

Randolph must already figure among the four most successful Met managers (Gil, Davey, Bobbie, and Willie, right?). Our team is on one of its best runs ever. Omar build the team, Willie is managing it. And by the way, I am pretty sure that the Santana deal is gonna happen, and I believe we will be WS-bound for 2008. Santana against Beckett in Game One!!<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('40090','David in Manhattan'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('40090','David in Manhattan','Frank: \r\nSince you asked, I took a look...very interesting, and yo make a lot of good points.
Last Season, I figured that there could be a collapse, because the De Facto GM, Jeffy Skill Sets, was calling all the shots:

If Aaron Sele as Long Relief was ANY Indication, it meant that Jeffy GOT Control;

I felt VERY ILL @ Ease, being a part of "Shea's Old Guard", realizing that this is a BADLY-ABUSED Fan Base;

Matthews is right. Jeffy Skill Sets is Jim Dolan without the Guitar;

Here's a link to an article about who the Mets should make manager and GM next year if they fail to make the playoffs:

http://www.dugoutcentral.com/blog/?p=840

Me and another poster there had a nice argument going back and forth. Check it out and tell me what you guys think. Would you side more with his thought pattern or mine? I'm interested to know :)<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('39291','Frank from Jersey'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('39291','Frank from Jersey','Here\'s a link to an article about who the Mets should make manager and GM next year if they fail to make the playoffs:\r\n\r\nhttp:\/\/www.dugoutcentral.com\/blog\/?p=840\r\n\r\nMe and another poster there had a nice argument going back and forth.
