I haven’t been to one of these ticker tape parades since the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994 ( the weather was a whole lot nicer that day as I remember sunny and warm today it’s damp and cold ) so I’m pretty excited about today’s Giants celebration.
ÂÂ
When I got off the ferry this morning I walked toward Bowling Green which is the start of the parade. Even at 7:30 there were loads of fans lining up. As I continued up Broadway along the parade route there was just a throng of fans in Blue and White Giants jersey’s (funny thing is I haven’t seen any of the red jersey’s which Giants fans feel are jinxed)
ÂÂ
As I look out my office window at 10AM my street Worth St corner of Church St is closed off and the cops are hustling the hordes up Worth to Broadway.
ÂÂ
It seems the jersey of choice is MANNING 10 with BURGESS 17 close second. Not many SHOCKEY 80 as that used to be the top Big Blue jersey and no BARBER 21 in sight. Lots of throwbacks SIMMS 11, TAYLOR 56 and even a P. JOHNSON 52
ÂÂ
It’s just great to see this mass of fans going along Church St to what looks to be about Franklin St where they are able to turn up to Broadway. One thing I do want to get is one of the posters I see some fans with and what are hanging from the lamp posts on Broadway. On a backdrop of a grass football field the heading says THIS IS NEW YORK CITY then there is a GIANTS helmet and underneath it reads THIS IS NEW YORK CITY FOOTBALL. Even though the team plays in East Rutherford NJ I still think the poster is cool.
ÂÂ
Street are still packed it pays to have a badge today!
ÂÂ
Tomorrow is another big day in NYC as Johan Santana has his press conference at Shea. Hopefully today’s parade is a dress rehearsal for a bigger and better one for the Mets in October!!!!!!!!!!!!    ÂÂ
There was just a huge roar from the crowd on Broaday, time to hit the streets

Around Bway & John Street, there was even a chant for Rusty Staub
I got as far as Chambers St but the crowd was soooooooooo big it was like hitting a brick wall. I did get a glimpse of the trucks but after I awhile I retreated back to the office with some chicken and string beans, a long sleeve SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS t-shirt for 10 bucks and a free Red Bull.
This was a good dry run for October as I may just sleep on the steps of Trinity Church for that parade.
The Giants went out and earned it, great job.
If we get ours in October…wow. I have three daughters in college, and the oldest was barely 10 months old the last time the Mets won it all. The other two were born the next year (twins).
I finneagled, shared the lore, took them to games, and eventually convinced these kids to love the Mets, so they are right on board, orange and blue, but hey, how about this year they finally get their first championship thrill?
Let´s go Mets!!
i’m with ya kranepool!! for october, i’ll need to just stay overnight. LOL
