DON’T BREAK MY HEART, MY ACHY-BREAKY HEART

Omar Minaya can piss on your leg and tell you it’s raining but I’m not falling for that as it pertains to the health and availability of Carlos Delgado. Omar can come out and say he’s not pursuing any other options for first base but you know he was up most of the night with Tony Bernazard, John Ricci and the rest of the brain trust on what the next move will be to figure out a contingency plan for first base. Delgado’s hip ailment is not going away and it’s just one more breakdown of an aging player.

So where do the Mets turn when (not if) Delgado goes down again? They could run a platoon of Damian Easley or Olmedo Saenz and Marlon Anderson for awhile.  Michel Abreu is another option but if any of these players see serious time at first base it will hurt the Mets immensely.

More injuries as Marlon Anderson and Ryan Church collided on a fly ball with Church getting the worst of the deal with a Grade 2 concussion. And because of Mets luck which is far worse than bad luck you know this will injury will linger with Church for most of the season.

Big two page layout in the NY Daily News today on teen heart throb Fernando Martinez. Mets would love to have F-Mart excel at Bingo this year but if I were a betting man I’d bet that Martinez is playing in Flushing by June as that’s the most likely time Moises Alou will go down with an injury.

I went for lunch yesterday to a restaurant and as I always do I get a table nearest a TV. Well yesterday I had a great seat to watch Mets-Dodgers. There was no sound put the set had closed captioning. As I’m watching I see Kevin Burkhart interviewing a woman in a cowboy hat with Mets pins all over it and a t-shirt with the cover of the 1962 Mets yearbook on it. Next thing I know I see the words” Mathematically Alive “scrawl across the screen and I nearly knock the table over jumping up. Gary Cohen was giving the film his seal of approval and plugging the documentary. How could you get a better review than from the voice of the Mets WOW.

It’s only March 2 and I’m already sick and tired of reading Joe Giradi stories. The guy hasn’t done dick as a manager but the NY media is treating him like Joe Fucking McCarthy please stop. Look I don’t hide my hatred for the dwellers of the South Bronx but even Highlanders fans know they have as much chance as spending the post season as spectators as they do participants.

Check out the Mets lineup for today’s game against the Dodgers:

 Anderson Hernandez (SS)
Ruben Gotay (2B)
Brady Clark (LF)
Angel Pagan (CF)
Ramon Castro (C)
Fernando Martinez (RF)
Michel Abreu (1B)
Robinson Cancel (DH)
Anderson Machado (3B)

No Delgado who is back with the team but got a shot of anti-inflammatory drugs (by the way how are cortisone and other anti-inflamatories not the same as any other PED? In fact doesn’t too much anti-inflamatories cause kidney damage? Just asking) Carlos Beltran is still trying to come back from knee cleaning surgery; Damien Easley is still out after last year’s ankle injury. Brian Schneider has a sore hammy and is out. Ryan Church still hears a telephone ringing. Marlon Anderson says he’s fine but is not playing. Jose Reyes has a sore knee after fouling off a pitch. El Duque feet still hurt. Petey is on Petey time. So yeah Omar I see what you saying “no reason to panic” (rolling my eyes)

If you were more negative than your comments I would say you were NOT a MET fan. There were no positive thoughts in your message. Get real my friend. Every team has their share of injuries and the METS will find a way to overcome all of them. Think positive and stop putting a negative spin on everything.

Let OMAR do his thing and things will work out for the best.

BiG Bob is right, Steve, Yes we Can, yes we can!

But you are right too… things are not breaking our way aT the moment, a lot of haze that has to clear.

My suggestion for Delgado is get a smaller bat and start thinking gappers, hit both ways to neutralize the shift, and he would still bang out 20 plus homers, my guess. Glad his MRI was negative.

He is a class-act individual, Delgado, I believe in the guy and am pulling for him to contribute, less like Delgado of old, maybe more Steve Garvey mold.

    Or Steady Eddie…?

Let’s see the first baseman who had health problems last year and had a fall off in his numbers is already sidelined by a chronic hip problem a week into spring training, our CF’er hasn’t been on the field yet, the LF’er is ALWAYS hurt, the RF’er has a concusion and is out a minimum of 2 weeks, our catcher has a sore groin after 3 games our late inning reliever has soreness after one apperence, our #2 starter hasn’t pitched yet in the first week of the season, our 5th starter has a foot problem that bothered him last year and still hasn’t taken the mound, we still have the major need for a right handed bat off the bench but I shouldn’t worry I should just drink the Omar Kool Aid right Bob? Just remember this the last 17 games of last season all the Mets had to do was play one game under .500 and the Phillies had to go 16-1 JUST TO TIE THEM!!!! How did that workout there sunshine? Yeah I’m a pesimsit 46 years of watching Mets baseball does that to a person

I’m on Steve’s side here, i’m in major panic mode. You might also want to add Santana’s rocky first start. Yes I know it was only 2 innings and only his first start but none the less, is ominous.

They need to trade for Nady and make him the 4th outfielder playing 2 x week and playing 1st 2x a week . If Delgado goes down, then he plays 1st base

I’m with Steve, too. I love this team, but it is an OLD team, very susceptible to injuries. They have already begun. If you think Delgado is out for the last time with the hip, think again. He may miss two months all totaled with this one. It bothers the guy when he swings, for goodness sake…Alou-just a matter of time. Problem is now some of the younger guys are going down (Schneider, Church, and Anderson-he’s 34). And PLEASE folks, can we stop with the Nady love fest? This guy is a below average fielder at all positions he plays, and probably a .265 hitter. He’s an ok reserve, not the next to part the red sea. Why do so many fans love an average player who was here for 4 months?

Fernando Martinez’s outfield defense does not seem smooth, intuitive–given the small sampling to date.

Can he be groomed for first base in case Delgado goes MIA? Our prospects at 1B are not exactly can’t miss blue-chippers.

    i’m so SICK of delgado-
what more do the mets need to see?

game after game last year- runners on base, he swings on pathetic high and inside pitches, and if he Gets a hit, it’s dribbler between first and second.
he broke his hand swinging and a ridiculous high and in pitch

    NO MAS!
