HE’S A CONEY ISLAND BABY

Hats off to Figgy and to his family for giving us the first great story of 2008. It was a pleasure watching Figgy be the definition of a pitcher last night as he hit corners, moving the ball in and out .

How happy was Papa Figueroa, a life long Mets fan watching his son make it back to the big leagues, with the team that drafted him, after surgery and stints in the outer fringe of baseball to put in a performance like last nights was outstanding.

Of course the night couldn’t end on a happy note as Jose Reyes was pulled from the game with “tightness” in his hammy. I thought the hamstring problems for Jose were a thing of the past but I guess not. Of course, What Me Worry, Willie is not concerned. Nothing about the team concerns Willie. The upper deck of Shea could come crashing down and Willie would say “well at least the fans are closer to the action on the field”. By the way the word around town is Willie is the one that has told Reyes to tone down his act and it has not gone over well with Jose or others on the team.

Tell me why, the Mets are wearing those over played Black uniform tops instead of vintage 1964 uniforms? The Brewers wear their classic uni on Fridays at home and the Blue Jays have gone to the powder blues of the 70’s on Fridays as well. The Jays by the way should shit can their awful uniform and go back to the powder blues full time.

You mean to tell me that the Mets can’t wear the classic thin pinstripe with no name on the back and no number on the front (see above)  and World’s Fair patch on the arm for Sunday home games? And while we are in the good bye to Shea mode, why wasn’t Banner Day scheduled for this season or Ladies Day (all Ladies get general admission seat for 50 cents service charge just like in’64) and batting helmet day as well. Even on the Diamond Vision how about putting up a clip of Lindsey Nelson saying “Hello again everyone and welcome to Mets baseball” Instead we get all hot and bothered over the 8th inning song YEECH!

Don’t ya know what everyone who watched this team last year knows? That the real problem wasn’t that Willie destroyed his ‘pen or anything else. The real problem was that the team was TOO FULL OF LIFE, and having TOO MUCH FUN, and that really they just needed to tone it down a couple of notches?

I mean, ya gotta love you some Willie, he’s really got his fingers on the pulse. And if he can just squeeze a little harder, he’ll get that pulse to stop entirely.

    Unbelievable.

OK, I’m in a bad mood after the weekend losses. I’ve been to two games and they lost both, and here are some peripheral things that are pissing me off. First, they do the “dancing with the fans” thing in the 3rd inning. FUCKING DISGRACE! What is this, the Saint Paul Saints?? This is MLB in NYC, and we have people dancing on the dugout to rounds of applause. GET RID OF IT NOW!!! IT IS EMBARRASSING! Next, Saturday, when Delagdo is up in the 8th as the tying run, three morons in my section stand right in front of me trying to get people to do the wave. Hey assholes, I paid for my ticket, I’m here to watch a game which is on the line, and you have the nerve to block my view to try to get people to do something that should have been outlawed in 1984? Be a fan, watch the game, or go the fuck home. Enough already with this idea of fans needing additional entertainment. Baseball is why you’re there. Deal with it or go home.

Cheaper than therapy…thanks for the opportunity, Steve.
