FOLLOW THE LEADER, CARLOS BELTRAN?

I’m not too overly concerned about John Maine as he was throwing his fastball with high velocity (low-mid 90’s) he just couldn’t get a good feel on the ball early in this start.  He gave up four walks but two were in the first inning when he was struggling with command and the other two were in the7th when fatigue set in. By the way I “watched” most of this game on MLB.COM Gameday with the fancy, shmansy Pitch F/X as I had the Rangers-Devils game on the TV. And that is one of the great inventions of our time. Right there with the drive thru Dunkin Donuts.   It seemed as though Maine was just a bit off with his location early but picked up around the third inning where he threw less pitches to get three outs. Plus with 12 fly ball outs his pitches were up a bit but hey a win is a win.

Good for you Carlos Beltran for stepping up and telling Jose Reyes it’s time to be Jose Reyes. I love the quotes from Beltran on what the opposition thinks of the juking and jiving by Reyes:

With a critical series in Philly starting tomorrow, maybe another huddle between the outspoken Beltran and the newly energized Reyes might be in order. “He knew he didn’t feel right,” Beltran said of Reyes. “We’re happy he’s dancing. We don’t care if other teams get offended. That’s part of the game.”

Exactly who besides What Me Worry Willie cares what the other team thinks I love how

Beltran is stepping up a bit this year and throwing some of his weight around. I hope all you Mike Pizza fans take notice as Me, Myself and I Piazza never stepped up. Beltran is the most opposite of Reyes as anyone on the team and as a quite guy he still can step up and make a statement or go to a teammate with counsel:

But Beltran’s biggest assist might have happened before the 6-0 Mets’ win in Tuesday’s series opener. Beltran noticed a moping, more quiet Reyes. And that, to Beltran, needed to be fixed. “I had a conversation with Reyes. I said, ‘Don’t change.’ When he’s doing that, jumping around, we like it. We’re happy,” Beltran said at his locker last night. “He’s a fun guy.”

Like Manny being Manny , Jose has got to be Jose for the Mets to roll.      I will give kudos to What Me Worry Willie for putting Ryan Church in the 2 hole and moving Gimp Castillo down to 8th put it could also be the broken clock theory, you know even though the clock doesn’t work its right twice a day.

I hope Petey is not trying to get back to soon from the tweaked hammy just to shut up the critics. It would be better for Petey and the team that he comes back 100 % and not rush back and do more or worse damage to the leg muscle. Petey is a proud man and that worries me.     Jack Fisher, Ron Hunt and Tim Harkness will take down the number of games left at Shea tonight. Jack Fisher is one fine gentleman. Bewteen games of a doubleheader in 1964 while my brother and I were standing by the railing near the Mets dugout, Fisher brought us a couple of pears from the clubhouse. It’s amazing the shit I remember but when I go to the mall I have to write down the number of the section where the car is parked.

Rangers are a game away form taking the first round of the playoffs and it won’t be easy. The Devils are kind of like the Atlanta Braves of hockey except with championships and a manger who has been around forever. Lou Lamerillo is very much like John Shuerholz when it comes to building an organization. As much as I hate both the Braves and Devils I have tons of admiration for both men who run them.  Speaking of hockey if you are a hockey fan or a sports fan you must tune into SPORTSTALKNY tonight as we will be hockey-centric with an all star line up. First NY Rangers radio play by play man Kenny Albert will be on followed by NY Daily News Rangers beat man John Dellapina then last but certainly not least former Rangers legend Phil Esposito will join us plus my Mets report, a Highlanders report, NFL Draft, NBA Playoffs everything and anything in the sports world will be cover tonight on SPORTSTALKNY and we want you to join in so call us at (631) 615-4799 and in the most lively chat room in the web DON”T FORGET 9PM via USTREAM I’ll be taking attendance!     Captain Phony Fuck strikes again !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s right. Jose needs to be Jose.
Print up the shirts now…we’re on the brink of marketing brilliance.

I could care less about who’s quiet or what, if Carlos Beltran leads by example and not by quotes or overused cliches, I am happy with that. It only took him three years, but if he can carry this team and not be a p*ssy like he has been and work with David Wright on bringing this team into CitiField, I have no beef with that. I may just call into that show tonight, this is like christmas for Coop!

I know this isn’t quite the right forum, but that Ranger game last night was great. I haven’t been that excited about hockey in a long time - probably since I tuned into the ‘94 Finals on Armed Forces Radio. I haven’t seen the Rangers too often this year, but I’ve listened to about 35 games or so and I like this team. They have character.

And, you can tell Kenny Albert that I’m probably his biggest fan in Ireland. You can also tell him that I really get a kick out of Dave Maloney. I think they’re a great team.

Really enjoyed last night’s banter when Brodeur was ‘hurt’. Maloney was pretty clear that Brodeur was acting, but Albert gave him the benefit of the doubt.

You can listen to it by clicking here. Wait for the broadcast to start and then drag the bar across to the 1′43″ mark and listen. Great stuff.

Coop, It will be a pleasure to add you to our audience, my Mets report comes on around 9:20PM

Eagle, I said the same thing about Broduer as Captain Dave I thought he should have gotten another diving penalty. He acted like he got kicked in th ehead when it was just his mask getting knock off. The Rangers were flying and Broduer used it as an excuse to stop play.

I have to get Mark to bring up how I used to see Kenny doing stats for his dad Marv and Red Light Messina when they were doing radio play by play and Kenny always had his Canuks jersey the one whith a garrish V neck.

You know, I never thought about how Kenny was related to Marv. I guess I had this vague idea that he was a nephew. Not sure why.

Marv & Red Light - they were great. I grew up on them as we couldn’t get Ranger home games on t.v. In college (Bronx) I had no t.v. at all, so it was all radio. There are times when I still wake up in a cold sweat hearing Marv describing Miko Leninin missing an “open net” only moments before Morrow scored to win the series in 1983.

Back to the Mets: Gotta love the job Smith did last night. Got the big out in the 7th and then had a 3 batter 8th, despite hitting Milledge (intentional?).
