With Duaner moving nicely into the 8th inning slot, Wagner absolutely lights-out, and the starters all pitching well, on the pitching side we seem to be ok. Not great but pretty good, especially if Pelfry and Figueroa can continue to keep us competitive in their games.

Our defense is better than adequate.

The offense is too reliant on Wright and Reyes, so when they disappeared for the Chicago series, so did the team. Alou will be a help, pray he stays healthy for a while. Endy usually starts slow, hopefully he'll be contributing soon. Marlon Anderson can and will do better. Beltran will be alright, and Castillo too as long as we can tolerate him resting every third or fourth game. Pagan, Church, and Schneider are hitting.

To me the key is to get Delgado to lighten his bat, shorten his swing, and work both sides of the field. Maybe it will take Hojo, Willie, and Omar getting together to schedule a proper meeting with him, not just a chat by the batting cage, whatever, he has to adjust to a new phase in his career, just like anyone else who is aging.

With the Braves coming in this weekend to Shea, and Pelfrey, Maine, and Figueroa matched against Jurrjens, Hudson, and Smoltz, we will need offensive production and efficiency to win 2 out of 3.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('59838','David in Manhattan','With Duaner moving nicely into the 8th inning slot, Wagner absolutely lights-out, and the starters all pitching well, on the pitching side we seem to be ok.
Yeah, I think it's more on Omar too. I wasn't happy about the decision to give Church a day off on Tuesday, but that's mostly because I have ZERO faith in Brady Clark. I sometimes wonder if Willie plays guys like Clark in order to make the point to Omar that, really, he's (Clark, whoever) gotta go. Yeah, I know Alou's coming back soon, but for how long? And, will Willie see Clark sitting there on the bench again when Alou goes down again?
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('59835','Eagle','Yeah, I think it\'s more on Omar too.
At least Delgado gave us a decent year after we signed him. Castillo is on year one of a four year deal. Ugh. Since they clearly won't be able to get rid of him, let's hope that the organization is willing to pay him those last two years to mentor Ruben Tejada, who should be our second baseman by 2010.

Seriously, the over reliance on aging vets has become a theme here. Almost as much as Willie burning out his bullpen and making head-scratching decisions while sneering at anyone who questions him that "I know my guys."

What a depressing team this has become.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('59816','whozgotnext','At least Delgado gave us a decent year after we signed him.
I place more of the blame on Omar. Willie ain't no genius, but Omar has consistently over paid aging players. i've written it in this space many times. Why on earth does this organization think that players who will be over 35 during their contracts are a good idea for long-term contracts? What happens? They age, they suck, and they can't be moved because no one will assume the contracts. It happens over and over again. And let us NEVER forget that we played the 2006 post season with 23 men vs. 25 on the other teams. I love Cliff Floyd, but THE MAN COULD NOT MOVE! Why the fuck was he on the roster??? And then, that other guy, the 800 year old pinch hitter. DISGRACE! If we had 25 guys, could something have been different? I don't know, but i know if I were putting a roster together, I'd want as many guys as the other team has. It just makes sense, something a lot of things around here no longer do.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('59803','Rich','I place more of the blame on Omar.
