Marchman mentions the word, that to me, describes the problem. AGE. Omar chose to acquire Castillo, Delgado, Alou, El Duque. This fish stinks from the head. He gives Willie players who are going to break down (if I live to be 100 I will never understand the "Alou will be good for 80 games" point). I puked when I read that. That's exactly like saying my hot girlfriend is great 2 days a month. Now, Willie isn't good enough to overcome this, I agree. But you can't saddle a guy with AARP and then blame him. This team is simply not as good as we or the Wilpons want to think it is. Not when you have so much age at so many positions, and you back them up with non-talented guys from AAA. I love Figueroa's story, but please. He had to step in for Pedro. His numbers are ok..for now. But did you see that they hit .390 against him the third time around? Break down, bad replacement part, repeat.
