I just found this page when I googled "Wayne Haggin" (with his name spelled incorrectly), but I have to say that I completely agree that he was a terrible call on WFAN's part. He is totally bland, occasionally totally inappropriate, doesn't know anything about New York, and has ZERO chemistry with Howie Rose. I can live with a guy who isn't necessarily New York-ish, but this guy is just wrong.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('69439','JJ','I just found this page when I googled \"Wayne Haggin\" (with his name spelled incorrectly), but I have to say that I completely agree that he was a terrible call on WFAN\'s part.
Great call on the radio/tv shuffle. Not only would it entertaining, it would bring back our childhood. Nothing wrong with that.

Now, on to serious business. Figueroa and his 85 mph fastball? The party's over. We need Petey (he throws to hitters today, I refuse to say "live hitters", what's the alternative, dead ones?). Figueroa takes over mop-up duty and Sosa is shown the door. Boomer calls Sosa the "human gas can". Amen.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('65044','Rich','Great call on the radio\/tv shuffle.
When will the Wilpons finally realize that Omar, Willie and Rick need to go. The 3 of them are killing this club. This team has no drive to win.

Did you hear Howie recalling the last time he saw batting out of order at Shea? 1967 against Pittsburgh. The day they shot the clip for the Odd Couple at Shea. He amazes me with his recall.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('64911','Eagle','Did you hear Howie recalling the last time he saw batting out of order at Shea? 1967 against Pittsburgh.
That Wayne Haggin, I could tolerate the flat non-NY accent and call, and he seems to know a little bit about pitching, but he strikes me as a glass-half-empty guy.

Funny. When the season started I was annoyed by Hagin's optimism. Lately I thought he'd been taking pessimism class delivered by Professor Rose, who never seems confident of a victory. I think Hagin's trying to sound like a fan, but failing whereas it comes naturally to Howie (because he is a fan).

I have my issues with Hagin too. On Sat. night I tuned in Marty Brennaman and Jeff Brantley because Howie was off (probably had a prior commitment considering it was an unscheduled game). Anyway, Hagin & Eddie Coleman is a cure for insomnia.

Despite all that, Hagin has been good at times. He was very good last week during Perez's last start talking about how the defense was going to sleep (before the big error on the ball hit by the pitcher). He has his moments, but I'd still like something different.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('64910','Eagle','That Wayne Haggin, I could tolerate the flat non-NY accent and call, and he seems to know a little bit about pitching, but he strikes me as a glass-half-empty guy.<\/i>\r\n\r\nFunny.
If ManU are the Highlanders of the EPL then Chelsea must be the Red Sox of the league.

So true on Murph he knew when to go up an octive when the Mets were making some noise.
Reply - Quote

Nice post Steve. Good luck with catching Roy Keanes's attention. His team sure can use some help. So can mine, Man City...the Mets of Manchester, and sure enough Man United did their Highlander routine yet again this year.

That Wayne Haggin, I could tolerate the flat non-NY accent and call, and he seems to know a little bit about pitching, but he strikes me as a glass-half-empty guy. When the Mets drive in a run, and you are celebrating, he says something to the effect that they finally drove in a run, or this is what they couldn't do yesterday, so instead of enjoying the run scored, you have to re-live yesterday's tragic happenings.

The great Murph had that sort of generic, American baseball announcer voice too, but his special enthusiasm, the absolute appreciation for the game, and optimism...not so much that the Mets necessarily win, but that good things would happen. And when they did, he was so ready to give "the happy recap."
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('64879','David in Manhattan','Nice post Steve.
