You want to know what my reaction was to yesterday’s loss to the Padres the last of the four games the Mets were swept, “Honey, is dinner ready yet” Now screaming, no despair, no shit. I am past the point where the Mets losing a game upsets me because I’ve come to grips that this team is not very good and until the team owners decide what they want to do with the manager and general manager I’ll just sit back and observe what players are worth keeping, what players could contribute that are in the minor league system and make fun of all the broken down senior citizens that make everyday old timers day with the Mets.
How can you get mad at the bullpen that even before the All Star break is counted on every day to keep the Mets in games and to win games? Some days it’s Ollie Perez whose starts can last between 1 to 5 innings. Petey who can’t go past 5, Big Pelf who is showing signs of going a whole 7 innings which on this team earns the name workhorse. Even Johan Santana doesn’t average 7 innings a start (6.9 if you like math ) then throw in the bottom of the batting order is of 1963-1964 Mets vintage as I don’t think Easley, Chavez, or the catcher who wakes up in time to play, puts any fear in opposing pitching staffs.
So with expectation now lower just enjoy going to Shea for the final year, take a lot pictures when your there go see teams like the Reds, D-Backs even the Texas Rangers who come in this weekend with Josh Hamilton, it’s okay to hate the team but don’t hate the game.
Last night Willie Randolph in his post game postmortem said “he was speechless” at that point he should have got out of his seat and left because he then morphed back into What Me Worry Willie with the old refrain of the morale is good and it’s early (the next Mets fan who tells me it’s early is going to get tossed into one of those large lakes outside the gates at Shea with a plugged in clock radio strapped to them, enough with this it still early bullshit) It’s hard to place the blame for this latest embarrassment at the feet of the manager in fact I think Randolph did his best in game managing in this series using Schoenweise showed that Willie used his hot hand and by gong early to Wags was the right choice as well. His short leash on Ollie Perez was a good “I’m the boss” moment as well. But you can see this is starting to wear on
Ramon Castro is one dumb fuck. How can you blame sleeping late on a pocket schedule? Castro looked at his trusty Mets pocket schedule and saw yesterdays game listed at 4:05 PM forgetting that was 4:05 PM EASTERN FUCKING DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME. It’s always some shit with Castro who is not worth having around anymore but of course he has this season AND NEXT on his contract another great signing by Omar Minaya. Castro never ever steps up when he is needed. When Mike Piazza was injured he couldn’t handle the everyday job. When Paul LoDuca went down with injury Castro said his back hurt too and he had to go on the DL. When Brain Schneider went down with injury so did Castro. See a pattern here. I’d cut his fat ass in a heartbeat over this latest stunt but I know it won’t happened but in order to save face Willie Randolph should tell Omar to suspend Castro for 3 games Fuck Don Fehr and the Players Association. DO IT DAMN IT SHOW SOME BALLS ND DISIPLINE THIS SCRUB. Send a message with Castro that fun and games are over. If Castro is not suspended or benched for about a week then you know that the Omar Minaya doesn’t give a shit anymore.
Whew that was good; see Willie it’s good to vent that’s why I love Ozzie Gullien. I laugh at the main stream media especially jerk offs like Jay Marriotti who feel that Gullien is crud and out of control. Guillen is a god damn genius if you ask me. He knows when his team needs a kick in the ass and when to hold back. He takes on his boss and challenges him to make some moves to make the team better. His players look up to him because they know that he is fearless and doesn’t give a shit about what is said and written about him, all they know is he’s a winner and a motivator. Since his last outburst the White Sox offense has been on fire and his team has won 6 in a row and has a 5 1/2 game lead in the AL Central. The best part of Guillen calling out his organization was they were in first place when he did it. Imagine Guillen managing this Mets team? He’d kill someone.

Well, I hate to pull the “i told you guys so” but I did. Last week when I posted that the Mets would lose 2 out of 3 to both craptacular teams (pads and giants) and that’s basically what happened. I also jokingly said Zito would no hit us and even though he didn’t, he sure didn’t pitch near as bad against us as he as all year agaist other teams. I also said the Mets would follow their winning streak (I think it was 7 of 9) with an equal or worse losing streak and they are right on course.
Yes, I have now raised the white flag in surrender to the phillies. That team is hungry and gets the job done. The never die until the game is over which certainly cannot be said about the listless Mess err Mets.
Steve, I agree, hold a fire sale right now. Dump Perez, Petey, Heilman, all relievers, castillo, delgottago, alou and everybody not named wright, reyes, santana or maine. Get whatever young talent you can and call the next couple seasons a wash.
Interesting that Castro had “character issues” when he was with the Fish, and that’s why they let him go. And genius Omar knoew that, but brought him here. And, of course, he knew Alou and El Duque had careers full of DL stays, but he brought them here anyway. Now, in fairness, getting Church and Schneider was a good move, and Maine was as well. But his body of work is at best 50/50, so that’s why I say it is on him. Willie does what he can. Sure he could be more emotional, call them out more (I like Guillen, too), but we could be in worse shape with the manager (Art, uh, I forgot his last name, my mind does not allow me to go there).
One thing, though…on Sat he left Ollie in to hit in the top of 6th with 2 on. OK, fine. But then he showed a quick hook in the bottom, when he took OP out with one on and one out. If the leash was that short, why not him hit for him in the top of the inning and take a shot at a run?
Listen to me worrying about this shit, does it really fucking matter any more?
Funny thing about guys like Guillen - I don’t like them. But, baseball is a game where the mental approach is everything. I think too many of the Mets have problems pressing and I don’t think this is helped by the manager. If he exploded every so often or said stupid things or whatever he’d change the mood and mind-set. Make them mad, make them laugh, make them cry - whatever - but don’t let them stew in their own insecurities when things are going badly.
Guys like Guillen & Pinella & Bowa & Valentine and others all know this. They take the focus onto themselves, which can be a great help to a player who’s not hitting or whatever.

I know it’s a little late to respond to a week old post, but I’d just like to say this was one the most bitingly uproarious posts I’ve ever read, right from the title of the entry (how many Mets fans know that passage from “Meet the Mets” anyway?) to the paragraph which began: “Ramon Castro is one dumb fuck.”
