But, baseball is a game where the mental approach is everything. I think too many of the Mets have problems pressing and I don't think this is helped by the manager. If he exploded every so often or said stupid things or whatever he'd change the mood and mind-set. Make them mad, make them laugh, make them cry - whatever - but don't let them stew in their own insecurities when things are going badly. Guys like Guillen & Pinella & Bowa & Valentine and others all know this. And genius Omar knoew that, but brought him here. And, of course, he knew Alou and El Duque had careers full of DL stays, but he brought them here anyway. Now, in fairness, getting Church and Schneider was a good move, and Maine was as well. But his body of work is at best 50/50, so that's why I say it is on him. Willie does what he can. Sure he could be more emotional, call them out more (I like Guillen, too), but we could be in worse shape with the manager (Art, uh, I forgot his last name, my mind does not allow me to go there). One thing, though...on Sat he left Ollie in to hit in the top of 6th with 2 on. OK, fine. But then he showed a quick hook in the bottom, when he took OP out with one on and one out. If the leash was that short, why not him hit for him in the top of the inning and take a shot at a run? Last week when I posted that the Mets would lose 2 out of 3 to both craptacular teams (pads and giants) and that's basically what happened. I also jokingly said Zito would no hit us and even though he didn't, he sure didn't pitch near as bad against us as he as all year agaist other teams. I also said the Mets would follow their winning streak (I think it was 7 of 9) with an equal or worse losing streak and they are right on course. Yes, I have now raised the white flag in surrender to the phillies. That team is hungry and gets the job done. The never die until the game is over which certainly cannot be said about the listless Mess err Mets. Steve, I agree, hold a fire sale right now. Dump Perez, Petey, Heilman, all relievers, castillo, delgottago, alou and everybody not named wright, reyes, santana or maine.
