Frank,

I agree with you on this. I think it's another reason why younger teams are doing well this year and why the league overall road winning percentage is down so much.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('72795','Eagle','Frank,\r\n\r\nI agree with you on this.
Missing the "greenies" is hurting these guys the most. I'm sure Keith Hernandez will attest to that since he used to eat them like candy and then drink hot coffee in the dugout on 95 degree days to melt the pills faster so they would work quicker and I'm sure most of you guys know that he said this himself (I forget which Mets book it was I read it in). The older they get the quicker they get tired but this should have no effect on guys 29 and under. We are now entering an Era where baseball numbers are going to be way off until things balance themselves out and they figure out new undetectable drugs they can use to cheat with again.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('72786','Frank from Jersey','Missing the \"greenies\" is hurting these guys the most.
It is not just with the Mets...this year most of the older players, an exception is Chipper Jones (and he has been injured too), are performing below expectations. In fact all MLB is hitting less.

No steroids and fewer performance enhancers must be a big part of this...any other theories out there?

The Omar Minaya system of getting value from older veterans clearly has to evolve to these new norms, and I am sure that Minaya is as aware of this as anyone.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('72756','David in Manhattan','It is not just with the Mets...this year most of the older players, an exception is Chipper Jones (and he has been injured too), are performing below expectations.
Darling had the best comment in the post game. "The Mets had a run in 2006, and since then, they have gotten old right before our eyes. Take Delgado. Older players can and do have good days. Delgado had 9 RBI in game one Friday. But the Mets need Delgado to have 9 RBIs in a week, not a day. Sometimes older players don't do that."

Right on, Ronnie! I've been saying that for a year now. This team will have moments, like when some of Frank Howard's fly balls did clear the wall when he was older. But, most of them did not. That is the problem with the Mets. Too often, the older guys just don't come through (Gimp, Alou, Delgado). So, Fred and Jeff, hold the architect responsible and make the move at the end of the year.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('72600','Rich','Darling had the best comment in the post game. \"The Mets had a run in 2006, and since then, they have gotten old right before our eyes.
