I feel a little dirty this morning, not exactly Peter Cook dirty but a little like I’ve done a bad thing kind of dirty. I didn’t watch much of last nights Mets-Cards game as I was more interested in the Rays-Red Sox game instead. The Rays are very very seductive. They are young, ample and full of life and energy and play outstanding baseball. Just a difference from watching a bunch of over the hill has beens that are the New York Mets. I’ve been reading some of the comments on my posts and I think we are all in agreement here that the new drug policy instituted by MLB has had an effect not only on the Mets but all of the over 30 players in the game. Not even for steroids or human growth but for amphetimes and other stimulants that helped get 30+ players through the night to play the next day. ( I guess Omar Minaya has learned a lesson here and if he is around for’09 and beyond his fascination with the over 35 crowd is cured) With an old roster like the Mets have they need all the help they can get and it they are not getting it. That’s why watching the Rays is such a pleasure as they not only play hard but they are fundamentally sound on defense.
It sad watching the decline of Petey. His body language on the bench shows a pitcher who knows the end of the line is near and does not want to go out like this. After the first inning, he pitched better but he still has trouble with command. His fastball has life but it’s too straight, no movement at all and most likely due to age, no late action on it either. In essence he’s throwing batting practice with that heater.
It was interesting to see and hear Dan Warthen last night on SNY (ok I did watch some of the Mets-Cards) as Warthen is not just old school, he’s the Dean. When asked about Petey, Warthen said he was fine physically and that most of his problems are “between the ears” Warthen made it clear too that he really doesn’t have much to do with Petey and his prep work, that is left mostly to Guy Conti. When asked about Aaron Heilman, Warthen chuckled and spoke about how he and Heilman have been together a long time and how they worked together in the minors and he knows that Heilman will be fine (if Warthen stays on as pitching coach after this year I bet he moves Heilman to the rotation) As he spoke about Ollie Perez, Gary Cohen was giving Warthen praise about moving him closer to the middle of the rubber and for changing his delivery to add more life on the fastball and Warthen deflect the praise and put it back on OP saying Perez came to him in wanting to do these things and Warthen worked with him to find his comfort zone. What the interview did for me was reinforce my thinking that Rick Peterson had to go and the pitching staff was stifled by his New Age mumbo jumbo and that Peterson wanted pitchers to pitch his way. Dean Warthen is a breath of fresh air to the organization as he cuts through the bullshit and deals in throwing strikes.
I don’t understand why Medicaid Moises needs to go to these rehab games. The guy can hit any day and time he just can’t stay upright so why waste all this time with games in Bingo and St Lonesome when the Mets need his bat now. First he was going to comeback tomorrow in Philly then it was by Saturday now it’s not until next week when the Mets come home to play the Giants. By next week it may not matter, The Mets need their best eight when they take on the Phillies, Medicaid Moises should be singing “I don’t want to go rehab, I said NO-NO-NO”
Do you need anymore evidence that Joe Buck is a dick? I’m sure you all have heard his take on baseball in his interview with Colin Heard that he doesn’t watch baseball anymore as it moves to slow for him and he bored, this is the FOX National baseball voice saying this. I’ve always felt that Doofus Joe was an a number one douche bag and this statement is right out of the Mike Francessa “I’m sick of sports talk I want the Meet the Press job” so how does FOX keep him on the games now that what ever little credibility he had is gone. I know lots of folks despise Dick Vitale, John Madden and Mike Milburry but at least they not only love what they do but they love the sports they cover and they still have passion for the games. Doofus Joe who due to his daddy Jack got his gigs is a spoiled little prick who thinks he is something he’s not.
Madge, you feisty cougar you. How about C-Rod hooking up with Roxie Roker’s little boy the Rock Star (Rock Star? HA HA HA ) PAck A Day Hank on the war path, John Holmes playing first base Joba not looking like a first ballot Hall of Famer and the Bronx Bastards a whopping 7 1/2 (8 in the loss column) back of the first place Rays. (which makes the pain of our team sucking so much a little bit more bareable) The Bronx Zoo is back in operation. HOLY COW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Steve,
Say it ain’t so! You’re watching other teams over the Mets?? Just kidding, hell, I do it, too. That’s why I have the package. It is so nice to see teams like the Rays (and even the Royals) who over achieve with YOUNG talent. No one on those broadcasts ever talks about “staying focused for nine innings”. They talk about winning a pennant and excitemnt. Even my daughter is threatening to become a Red Sox fan, so at least she can still hate the Highlanders. This, however, will not be allowed.
Folks, don’t you just wish we could have some excitement? Darling said a few weeks ago that it seems like Mets fans are always praying. He’s right. I pray for the pain to stop. If they play inspired, we get inspired. If they play like it hurts, we hurt. We’ve been hurting a lot. So, once again I say, the man who put this chemistry-less, passionless team together must go. How come we as fans see the problem and he does not? Are we really to believe that all of a sudden his eyes are open to the fact that old players cannot use “substances”, and he’ll lose his passion for them? I just don’t think so. Philosophically, this guy is just not there. Watch him get another senior citizen at the deadline. Can anyone say “Kirvsky?” He’s in the organization, and the Reds, though struggling, have a good nucleus (Phillips, who Omar traded for Colon, and several good, young pitchers).
Happy 4th.

Buck is a BORE, as he was today, as was Tim McFullofshit, driving people to throw things at tv sets. How many times does Mc Fullofshit have to mention Mariano’s Excellent Gait Speech?
