What Omar is doing is stockpiling veteran relief arms for the September push, knowing that once he gets to October, one of the starters will have to go to the pen anyway (Maine or Pedro) because you don't need five starters in the post-season. With the guys we have now, plus Reyes, Niese, Muniz, Knight and perhaps Burgos coming up in September, the bullpen will be stacked with fresh arms and Jerry will be able to mix and match to his hearts content. We will be fine without Billy. He couldn't close the big games anyway.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('108576','seaver','What Omar is doing is stockpiling veteran relief arms for the September push, knowing that once he gets to October, one of the starters will have to go to the pen anyway (Maine or Pedro) because you don\'t need five starters in the post-season.
I'm going to correct you about Petey and your comment that he doesn't have the arsonal. He has one of the best arsonals in the Majors, it just isn't as sharp and tight as it used to be ;) but I do agree he's not closer material. I would prefer a closer throw at least 95 mph which brings me to believe in a perfect world, Heilman *should* be best suited to close if he didn't have such a tendancy to blow games this year. He throws around 95 mph, devestating changeup and now a slider. All he has to do is keep the f'in ball DOWN in the strike zone and he'd be unhittable.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('108440','Frank from Jersey','I\'m going to correct you about Petey and your comment that he doesn\'t have the arsonal.
