I just saw this commercial on ESPN so I searched You Tube and found it. It’s Marvin Gaye singing the National Anthem at the 1983 NBA All Star game (A classic performance) with a montage of TEAM USA Basketball Gold Medalists. If I owned a team I would play Marvin Gaye’ version of the Star Spangled Banner before every week day game. On Sunday I’d play the Jimi Hendrix version.

Not the way I expected it to go, but probably better. I thought Santana would shut them down and the Mets would win 5-1 or something. But the way the Phillies lost last night’s game has to hurt Philadelphia more than a simple 5-1 loss.
Funny to read all the suggestions about Delgado being an MVP candidate in today’s papers because for the first time that same thought crossed my mind during the 8th inning.
There is no way you don’t get either a little emotional or completely fired up when listening to Gaye’s version. I have the version on my ipod. He was an absolutely perfect musician, but unfortunately he was also an absolutely flawed soul. My wish is to one day look as kool as he did while doing the anthem that day.
You get the feeling that, indeed, when the roster expands to 40, that the newly brought in 15 will all take seats in the bullpen. It may still not be enough.
