Saw this from Joe DeMayo on Mike Silva’s NY Baseball Digest about the Snakes looking to get out from under Eric Byrnes contract and maybe there is a match with Gimp Castillo as the O-Dog is looking at free agency. Long time readers of this site know I’m a Byrnes-ie fan for a long time and he is just what the Mets need. Also if you listen to our gabfest with Frankie the Sports Guy you will here me say that I would go after A J Pierzynski and platoon him with Shrek Castro. Adding Byrnes and AJ that would be a start in the atitude adjusment the Mets sorely need.

I’ll take Byrnes, he just cannot bring his at-bat song with him.
Pierzynski’s a tool.
Caryn what is his at bat song? Dancing Queen?
AJ is a tool I agree but that’s what we need a miserable prick like him
Byrnes/Castillo makes total sense to me ..
But Schneider is going to be here with Castro next year.
I would do castillo for byrnes in a heartbeat!
I’m in for Byrnes. NY will love him. He hustles like nobody’s business. But he’d have to lose the Fox gig, no floating around SF Bay in a kayak during the All Start game. Stay home and rest for the second half.
I sent the byrnes to a fellow mets fan…he responded.
“i would offer to pay 500 bucks a year for that trade – i kid u not”.
Byrnes is washed up, you sillies.
Pierzynski is a nasty jerk. Check out story re kneeing SF Giants’ trainer Stan Conti in the groin…team has enough issues and drama without brining this putz into the mix.
Byrnes would have been a good pennant rental, but let’s find one of these guys when they’re 24 or 25, not after they’ve been picked over and dumped by several teams.
The Mets need to stop getting retreads and get players that have value and years left. Even if that means trading some young talent. Believe it or not the METS have more young talent then they let onto….
I used to love Brynes but I haven’t seen his stats the past year and a half I think. If i remember, he had a break out sort of year for the A’s a few years back but never produced much after that. I do agree though as far as personality/ attitude goes, i loved him. Balls to the wall baseball every game is what we need.
