RANDOM ACT OF BLOGGING OCT 25, 2008

Little Jeffey Skill Set can not wait until all of Shea Stadium is carted off to the landfill o he can open for business his new cash register a/k/a $iti Field. Jeffey could not give a shit how you and I feel about Shea and about the attachment some of the fan base has with the old ball park, no all he cares about is his suites will be full with no nothing assholes as himself and guys like you and me will regulated to the upper deck where we can be seen but not heard just the way the Skill Sets like it. You can just envision little Jeffey jumping for joy as Shea comes down piece by piece:

{The track on which stands once slid to make Shea a football stadium has been unearthed. The twin light towers will be taken down any day to further clear the area beyond the outfield so the Mets can build the plaza wrapping around Citi Field.

“They’re so high, and so close to Mr. Wilpon’s new baby,” said Toby Romano, a vice president of Breeze National, the demolition subcontractor, said of the towers’ proximity to the nearly finished Citi.

“Nice and easy, we’ll pull them down,” said Danny Collins, a Breeze foreman.

“If it were me,” said Jeff Wilpon, the team’s chief operating officer, who wants Shea to be gone as soon as possible. “I’d just go in and bring them down.” Wilpon added: “I’d love to drive a Bobcat, blasting through this place.”}

And you want to know why I get so fucking mad about the management and direction of this franchise?

Yes, Jeffey that’s the same irrational thinking that will doom this franchise as long as you keep sticking your beak in the baseball business where it doesn’t belong. Hey Jeffey-Poo maybe you can sell the Shea scarp and use the dough to pay off Gimp Castillo’s contract?

Then we have this quote from J W Colluci who is not a Mets fan as we see in this quote but he is a guy who doesn’t get laid much:

{Inside the tight cab sat J. W. Colucci, an operating engineer.

How does it feel, he was asked, to be wrecking Shea?

“Sometimes,” Colucci said, a smile on his dusty face, “it feels better than sex.”}

Hey Mr. Colluci go fuck yourself.

Why does everything Isiah Thomas try to do become so complicated?

A Tim Marchaman sighting , tip of the Mets Cap to the Baseball Think Factory.

Mets Fever has the lowdown on the AFL all star game and Eddie Kunz blowing the save in the game. I really don’t know how much stock to put into Kunz’ time in the AFL he has had some very good appearances but lately he is not pitching well at all and how much does this play into his role for the ‘09 Mets and what it means for the moves Omar needs to revamp the piss poor pen?

Willie Randolph turned down a job with the Curly W’s to be a bench coach for Manny Acta. No surprise there as Acta and Willie hate each others guts.

Check out Mike Silva’s NY Baseball Digest  interview with former Mets reliever Skip Lockwood.

Tip of the Mets Cap to great site Uni Watch for the link to Roger Angell story on George Hendrick, now a Famous Rays coach on his being the player who started the awful baseball fashion statement of pants to spats which I hate to no end.

Nice win by the Blueshirts last night but a tough one for Coach Renny as he took a the stick of Blue Jacets d-man Rotislav Klasla in the noggin and was knocked cold.

“ACCORDING TO YOUR BLOOD TEST, YOUR OPS+ IS A LITTE LOW AND YOUR WHIP AND ERA+ ARE ELIVATED”

When I saw this I thought is was a column from The Onion but no it’s an op-ed piece in the NY TIMES written by John Kerry, Newt Gingrich and Billy Beane outlining a sabermetric formula to keep down cost for the nations health care.  I wonder if Bill James can come up with PSORD (Patient Survial Over Replacement Doctor)

IT WAS GENERAL TSO’S CHICKEN BY KNOCKOUT

We have this new system at work to sign in and out via computer and you have to be on time as the punch in clock is no joke,  so since I like to walk from the ferry to work every day (about a mile) I’ve been getting up at 5:15 in the AM. Then last night, since my  kids had  a couple of after school activities, by the time my wife drives them and picks them up it usually means it’s a take out night so last night was Chinese. Now add  those two elements  to watching the World Series in a reclining chair, I have to come clean and say I saw about three innings of last nights game before I was comatose. If it wasn’t for the cat looking for a late night snack and sitting on my head I might still be sleeping but I woke up in time to hear Doofus Joe tell me not to forget to join him and Mc Fullofshit on Saturday for Game 3.

So what did I miss? Well the Phillies taking a page out of the Mets book of failure by leaving ducks on the pond at an alarming rate. BIG GAME James doing another fine job. Rocco Baldeli slamming into Carlos Ruiz at the plate and the next inning resting on one knee during play stoppage as he fights fatigue; something that has ailed him all season and I missed the biggest story of the post season David Price’s coming out party.

We are supposed to go out for dinner on Saturday night so I’ll be sure to stop off at Starbucks on the way home for some high octain java to keep me awake for Game 3.

I’m pretty happy with the configuration of the new Mets coaching staff. I like Randy Niemann in the bullpen and with the departure of Guy Conti that closes the book on Petey’s return. I think the tandem of Neiman/Warthem will be a real plus for the Mets. The Alomars, and HOJO coming back is good news as well. Luis Aguyo goes back to player personnel as he was sorely miscast as a 3rd base coach and  I feel sorry for Ken Oberkfell who looks to be re-assigned to manage the Buffalo Bisons after making it up to the big club. As for Razor Shines, he’s a J-Man ally which helps out the Warlord and he managed in the bushes so he gets a chance to command the third base coach’s box but I think more importantly he gives J-Man and sounding board.

All the speculation about which way Omar will go to reconstruct the Mets for ’09 is giving me a head ache already.  Obviously the most important add/subtract is in the pen. Next is a back of  the rotation starter, then 2nd base (I’m a supporter of signing Orlando Hudson ) then the corner outfielders ( It’s not all his fault due to the concussions but the Milledge/Church-Schnieder deal sure doesn’t look like a steal now does it?) and then I’d bring in a new first string catcher. My first call would be to Ken Williams on the South Side and ask about AJ Pierzynski (I know I’ve gone over this earlier) and Bobby Jenks.  Make a package of Schenider/Heilman/Castilo/  and cash to pay the bulk of Gimps contract for the pair of Sox.

Randy Newsom is a minor leaguer playing winter ball in Venezuela and he writes about his experiences there on Dugout Central. It’s a worth while read.

Ron Darling will join Mike the Bloviator as guest listener as no one but the Great Bloviator gets to speak on his show. Yesterday Francesa went into a rant condemning Congressman Dennis Kucinich for looking into allegations that the Highlanders and the City of NY of undervaluing the value of the land the new Highlander Stadium is built on to pay less property tax. Francesa threw a fit questioning Kucinich for sticking his nose into this and saying who cares what the Highlanders and the City did to get this stadium built. So in the world of Mike Francesa, rich people cheating the government out of tax revenue is fine and anyone who questions it is a commie rat bastard. Spoken like a true Republican that he is.

Big League Stew has a post on what to do with Doofus Joe and Tim McFullofshit as now it seems the rest of the blogesphre is finally hip to what I’ve been saying for a few years not only does has this duo reached the peak of suckitude and in the case of Doofus Joe, become so disinterested in broadcasting baseball that it looks like it’s time to for both to step away from the broadcast booth. I think this will be the last of these two smug assholes after the World Series I’d be shocked, SHOCKED if FOX didn’t shakeup its awful baseball coverage.

More on the shake down of the Cape Cod League by MLB Properties this from the New York Times. Looks like my Chatham Athletics t-shirt, cap and sweatshirt are collector’s items.

Mike Silva plays the “Hate Card” with the Mets and their rivals. Hey, Mike the fan base ain’t exactly in love with the team either. Not me though, I usually keep a level head when it comes to the Mets <whoa, that lighting bolt nearly hit me!>

I WATCHED THIS BUT NOW I WISH I HADN’T

Let me warn you, this is a clip of the scoreboard at Shea being brought down via demoltion and if you’re like me watching this is painful.  If the demise of Shea is still a sore subject with you skip this clip but I just stared at the screen and I’m thankful no one is around as I needed to dry my eyes after this.

BAD GUYS GO UP 1-0

Sure it sucked seeing Scott Kazmir on the mound for the Famous Rays last night but to be honest,  as much as I’m a Kazmir fanboy I thought he stunk last night. How the hell do you walk Pedro Feliz and Carlos Ruiz for God sake you have to let those two swing the bat CHALLENGE THEM DAMIT! Kaz was lucky that Upton made a strong throw to nail the little prick Victorino at the plate for an inning ending DP as that at least let the Rays stay in the game.

I though the 3rd inning was the turning point in the game as the Rays had a chance to make Cole Hamels life difficult with the bases juiced and 1 out with hot hitting BJ Upton at bat. Upton this past season hit a robust .353 in a bases loaded situation, so the odds looked good that even a fly ball would at least get the Rays on the board but Upton hit into an inning ending DP something he did only 13 times all season.

Add that to Kazmir having runners on base every inning he pitched four of them via the base on balls and this game wasn’t as close as the score board showed. It’s up to James Shields to get the Pizza Guys even in the series. In my mind Game 2 is a must win for the Rays.

Who knew Wee Willie Randolph was such a catch? The Rockies and Nats want him to be a   bench coach and the Brewski’s are looking at him as a skipper. I still think Randolph best position is as an infield coach/instructor as a bench coach you’re involved in strategy which we know too well is not Willie’s strong suit.

With the economic climate in this country and newspapers facing extinction why in the world did the NY Daily News waste money by sending Bill Madden to the World Series to write about how all the team in the NL East hate the Mets. Not exactly ground breaking there Billy Pinstripes. You almost nailed a good column as you wrote about Pat Gillick turning around the Phillies and the Mariners but you missed the boat on the big story as Gillick was the Skill Sets choice to take over the Mets after the Steve Phillips disaster era but turned them down due to Jeffey Skill Sets meddling ways.

AHHHHHHHHH LOVE THOSE SWEDES

I have no words to add to this story but I wish the Blue Seaters  at Madison Square Garden had thought of this during the Denis Potvin era

MAYBE RON WILSON SHOULD MANAGE THE METS

Last night Toronto Maple Leafs coach Ron Wilson did something that is so totally bizarre that I have no way of matching it up with a baseball term. After 60 minutes of regulation play and 5 mins of overtime the Leafs-Ducks were tied at 2-2 and headed for the skills competition a/k/a the shootout. Now Leafs first string goalie Vesa Toskala was pulled from the game in favor of 65 year old Curtis Joseph to man the goal in the shootout. I guess this would be like pulling Johan Santana with 2 out in the 9th inning and bringing in Scott Schoenwies to get the last out. Wilson claims that Toskala is bad in the shoot out and the numbers prove it but the real reason is the Maple Leafs have sucked for so long and the coach feels his team has a heir about them that their shit doesn’t stink and this pisses Coach Wilson off to no end:

< This was about the larger picture, the nature of a Maple Leafs team that Wilson quite clearly believes has an unearned attitude of entitlement. Moreover, he can’t understand or stomach the celebrity status accorded Leaf players who have accomplished little.

Like a military boot camp, then, Wilson has clearly decided to break this team down and, eventually, build it back up again.

You don’t do that by messing with the fringe players. You go at the core and you use a sledge hammer.>

There is something about that type of thinking that intrigues me. Instead of stroking players that have come up short two years in a row and maybe J-Man and Omar need to take a page out of Wilson’ book to send a message. I know trading any of “the core” is not popular but as I said at the end of the season, Omar should dangle the names of Reyes, Wright and Beltran to send the message that no one is safe here when the results are what they have been the last two seasons.

I just feel some of the Mets are a little too comfortable thinking that the are Mets for Life and maybe seeing your name in trade rumors is the slap in the face this team needs.

LET’S TAKE OUR NEXT CALL, JEFFEY FROM FLUSHING YOU’RE ON THE FAN

Taking time out from counting the receipts from the luxury suites at the new Skill Set Pleasure Palace Jeffey Skill Sets came on WFAN with the Francesa the Bloviator to what was about 10 minutes of nothing.

Jeffey was happy that the Mets have re-upped with the WFAN and Francesa then morphed into a persona that resembled his ex-partner and gave Jeffey a thorough tounge bath saying how WFAN and the Mets have been long time partners and how the station is glad to have the team on it’s air waves and on and on. Jeffy said the organization is happy as well as Mets fan always know what station their on all the time but he would not state the real reason that the Mets stayed with the FAN and that’s all the dead presidents the station is paying them for the radio rights. So when the Bloviator asked about changes to the team Jeffey claims that Omar has total control over personnel and that their is no set budget. Jeffey did seem a perturbed that the Famous Rays with a payroll of about the price of two luxury suites are in the World Series and his team with one of the highest payrolls in the game are home watching on TV.

The bulk of the interview was all about &iti Field and the dismantling of Shea which should be an empty lot by January.
