Eddie K,

I'm all for this "face of the franchise" stuff - but don't confuse it with on-field ability or wins.

I'll concede that maybe this "leadership" cost the Mets a win or 2 this season. But the bullpen cost them 10 times that amount. "Leadership" and "chemistry" are not definitive qualities in a ballplayer or team - they just happen. OBP, SLG, OPS, K/BB - these are definitive quantifiable things a GM should look for in a ballplayer. I'll take the guy who goes .300/.400/.500 and is a sullen d*ck in the clubhouse over David Eckstein any day.

Keep up the good work, it's required daily reading. Regards.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('122599','James K.','Eddie K,\r\n\r\nI\'m all for this \"face of the franchise\" stuff - but don\'t confuse it with on-field ability or wins.\r\n\r\nI\'ll concede that maybe this \"leadership\" cost the Mets a win or 2 this season.
James K you are a little lost so let me help you find your way. The quick and dirty explaination on why the Mets did not make the post season is of course in the inabilty of the pen to step up. There is also a lack of soild veteran leadership to pass the torch to Wright and Reyes. The loss of Cliff Floyd has been sorely under reported as he led by takng Wright under his wing and showed him the ropes. HOJO is using his role as a coach and mentor to help Wright take charge of this team as Wright is the face of the team as Eli is of the Giants and if you don't think Eli isn't the face of the GIants then you must be a COwgirls fan
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('122577','kranepool','James K you are a little lost so let me help you find your way.
Leadership? C'mon, people only declare someone a good leader after his team wins something. Look at Eli - he wins the Super Bowl all of a sudden he's a great leader.

This is definitely NOT something the Mets or Omar should be concerned with. Go out and get great players - that's how you win ballgames. Leadership is an intangible that people like to throw around on talk radio because it's more fun to say David Wright is a poor leader than it is to say the bullpen sucks.

Is a lack of leadership why Luis Ayala gave up a 3-run homer to Greg Norton? Why Billy Wagner blew 3 saves in a week? Why Scott Schoeneweis gave up a HR on Sept. 28? Why Aaron Heilman gave up a ton of big longballs this year? C'mon now.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('122505','James K.','Leadership?
