First and foremost a Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone and a huge thank you for your support of this site and of Pro Baseball Central and my wish to you is good health and happiness and hopefully post season baseball for our Mets.
Â
Finally Omar has reached out to Scott Boras and Derek Lowe with an offer. While the Mets offer of 3yrs/$36mil is nowhere near the reported 5yr/$90mil that Boras was looking for, it is a starting point. The Mets do not want to go more than 3 years with Lowe and with the big boys on the sideline (Highlanders and Red Sox) this looks like advantage Mets.  I could see a scenario where there is a 4th year option and maybe the money goes up two or three million with Omar telling Scot Boras he’s doing it as a face saving measure and let Boras know he “owes him one†but it looks like this will get done soon.
Then it will be interesting to see where Omar turns next. The longer Manny Ramirez sits out on the open market the more pressure there is on the Skill Sets to get in the Manny game. Word is leaking out of the air tight front office bunker that Omar wants to get Manny in Blue and Orange but the stumbling block is getting the Skill Sets to release the purse strings. If Manny slips through the Mets hands due to Jeffey and Freddie not giving Omar FULL AUTONOMY  to make this deal and Manny Ramirez signs with GOD FORBID the Highlanders or goes back to LA for a 2 year deal I am putting the Mets on notice that whatever past posting here toward management they thought were venomous and nasty will look like love letters  compared to the carpet bombing I have in store for them if they pussy out with Manny. I’m not looking for them to go more than 2yrs for Manny so I don’t think that’s outlandish.

Long time reader of this site Nik Kolidas has a new Mets blog Kiner’s Korner which not only has a terrific layout but the content is first rate. Click on the link and bookmark the page and thank me latter.
Â
Outstanding job by Amazin’ Avenue with their detailed comparison of Oliver Perez vs. Ben Sheets. If or when Derek Lowe signs with the Mets adding Ben Sheets to a 2yr deal would an outstanding outside the box move by the Mets. Which means it won’t happen.
Â
Over at Mike Silva’s NY Baseball Digest there are a couple of items that are must reads. First Mike has a posting on January as the Month of Manny and this passage should be e-mailed to Jeffey Skill Sets or better yet I would love to hand deliver it to him and shove it in his face to make sure he gets the message:
   {The Mets, although improved, might need something to get past their 2007/2008 failures. Johan Santana should have done it, but the dour Willie Randolph negated all good will from that coup of a signing. The excitement of having two closers is nice, but putting Ramirez in left field would create a fresh buzz to the new ballpark. Imagine opening day and Manny hits a three run homer in the first. They may need to check the new buildings structure to ensure it’s ready for that kind of punishment. Manny would take a solid lineup and make it great. There is that g-word again. Unfortunately, there is no Hank Steinbrenner in the Wilpon family. Even an engaging salesman like Omar MInaya has been unable to convince Fred and Jeff on Ramirez. The fans remember Vladimir Guerrero and the winter of 2003. Maybe another rally with Craig Carton at Citi Field would help the Wilpon’s remember.}
Â
BRAVO MIKE!!!!!
Â
Also on NYBD is Frank Maniscalco who will be the sites Czar of Fantasy Baseball this year. You may know Frank as Frankie The Sports Guy and now he has added fantasy baseball to his ever growing résumé.
Â
Good to see Charles Barkley getting that last DUI of 2008 out of the way early.

Omar Minaya should heed the advice as to not overindulge in alcohol during the holiday’s as that has to be the reason for him to even contemplate trading for Andruw Jones. Sure it would have rid the Mets of Gimp Castillo, who the Mets couldn’t rid themselves of even with the promise of delivering him with a suitcase full of Mets Money, but as bad as Castillo is at least he has a position unlike the chubby Curacaoian who plays centerfield one of three position where the Mets need no upgrade. As for Jones playing right field,  didn’t we try that before playing two centerfielders with Beltran and Mike Cameron? How did that work out (OUCH!)
Â
The Skill Sets need to cut the bullshit and give Omar the go ahead to sign Manny and Derek Lowe. Or better yet make the Andruw Jones deal this way I know that the Mets don’t give a shit about winning and I go on and enjoy my summer doing something else.
Â
Did you hear the one about the two Cuban baseball players that defected?
Â
Happy 73rd Birthday to the greatest left-handed pitcher in the history of baseball.
Â
According to reports today, over 47 million tourists visited NYC this past year and every one of those fuckers rode the Staten Island Ferry every night at rush hour.

According to Jason Stark at ESPN.com The Dodgers are ready to talk with the agent for Adam Dunn which if he signs with the Hollywood Bums would knock them out of the Manny Sweepstakes and if that does happen will put big time pressure on the Skill Sets to loosen up the purse strings and make Jeffey Skill Set put or shut up as to how the Mets have plenty of Dead Presidents to spend. Well walk the walk Jeffey Boy walk the walk.
Big tip of the Mets cap tap to long time Kranepool Society reader Nik for the Manny pic.

Here I was all set to write about Brad Penny signing with the Red Sox and how it looks like the Mets stand alone in the Derek Lowe sweepstakes when I hear over the radio that Jets head coach Eric Mangini has been given the well deserved ax;  oh and welcome Jets fans to the TEAMS THAT GAG CLUB as your team takes a seat at the table with the 2007 NY Mets. The firing of Man-Gina is not only justified but if anyone deserves to get his ass kicked it’s this rat. I have no use for rats and Man-gina is as big a rat as the inflatable ones at no-union job sites.
Â
One more Jets note. Brett Farve may be a future Hall of Famer but if I had to win one game and my choice of QB is either Farve or Ken Stabler, I’m taking The Snake in a heartbeat. The fact that Stabler is not in the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a fucking joke and any one who thinks differently either never saw The Snake play or just goes by numbers.
Â
Now that Man-gina is out the next NY coach that needs to get the pink slip is Tom Renney. The collapse of the Rangers is not all Renney’s fault as the team is run in the front office by a cadaver named Slats but Renney rules the bench and he controls the playing time and the fact that Aaron Voros and Freddie Sjostrom play every game while Peter Pruchca sits in the stands night after night is a disgrace as are the countless bench penalties the team takes and that is on the coach. Mark Messier was at the Garden for the loss to Devils on Saturday; hopefully he put in a call to Clueless Jimmy Dolan and made his pitch to takeover the organization.
Â
Omar Minaya would like Johan Santana to sit out the World Baseball Championships and hopefully Santana will abide by this request. Is there a bigger waste of time and work hours that the WBC? Who gives a shit? I understand that the Latin players have tremendous pride in playing for their countries and that is commendable but when the MLB team you play for is putting a roof over your head and food on your table your alliance is to the MLB team period.
Â
I keep reading about Ken Takahashi the lefty out of Japan and how the Mets are looking at him as the replacement for Scott Schoenewiese and all I can do is ask why? What jumps out at the Mets that says this guy is worth bringing to the U.S. NPA Tracker has a nice write up on Takahashi and the array of pitchers in his arsenal but the guy is 40 years old and his BB/KK splits don’t thrill me so I’m sure there is someone (Brian Shouse?) who fits the LOOGY bill better than Takahashi.
Â
Interesting post on NY Baseball Digest that suggested the Highlanders could deal X-Nady to the Red Legs for either Bronson Arroyo (Mike Francesa’s Man –Crush) or Aaron Harang.
Â
Got to go listen to Joe (Bada-Bing) Benigino kill the Jets.Â

10:30 on a Saturday morning and I’m still sitting in my living room. No basketball games to run to. No ice skating lesson to go freeze my ass off at AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! I could get used to this but I know it won’t last too much longer.
Not much Mets news either as but you should check out this post from Mike Silva on his NY Baseball Digest site on the Christmas Day article in the Daily News on Ryan Church. Silva had told me when Mike Francesa went on his Church hates NY rant that it was bullshit and now Church in this article backs that up. Also Silva is adding the lovely and talented Frank Maniscalco (A/K/A Frankie The Sports Guy) as his go to guy on Fantasy Baseball.

Well well what have we here? A little shakin’ and bakin’ over at SNY as two of my favorite foils Boardwalk Lee Mazzilli and Matt Yaloff have been relived (as have us Mets fans) of their duities as host and analyst of the Mets pre-and post game show, replaced by Uncle Fester (Chirs Carlin) and Bobby Ojeda (Thumbs up! oops sorry Bobby-O)
It’s about time that Yalloff has been dumped with his low talker voice and just all around annoyance.  As for Maz, it was hard to concentrate on his analysis as I kept drifting off into thought on how it was his hair was darker now than it was when he went to Lincoln H.S.
Not to worry about Yalloff as he will be replacing that annoying lazy eye fuck Vince on the Shamwow commercial and Boardwalk Lee will go back to being a greeter at Captain Walters on Emmons Ave.
As for Fester and Bobby O this could be a very good duo. I’m not saying they will be Tom Carron and Dennis Eckersley but I’m looking forward to them as they can’t be any worse than who they are replacing.

If the Mets could get Manny Ramirez for 2yrs/$50mil with an option for a third year should the Mets make that deal?

So how was Christmas? Mine was outstanding but I have to work today so that sucks. I got a new NY Rangers jacket that I wanted. It has the big NEW YORK RANGERS crest on the back with the Stanley Cup years on the sleeve and was thrilled to open that on Christmas morning. So with all the hoopla yesterday I’m tired today and not really feeling like doing anything but I have work to do so I’ll just have this thought for the day.
Â
The longer Manny Ramirez sits out on the free agent market the more anxious I get wanting the Mets to go out and grab him. I know the Skill Sets have said “No Way†and now it seems Omar is still interested in grabbing him but is finding resistance from the owners. Now if that is the Skill Sets position that the Mets are not players for Manny’s service I feel they have an obligation to Mets fans to explain as to why they are against this move.
Â
Is it due to the monetary obligation? So far the best public offer has been the Dodgers 2yr/$44mil. So if you offered Manny/Boras say 2yr/$50mil with an option on a third year would the Dodgers top that? I doubt it. The only other serious bidder would be the Angels (although the Highlanders could bid just to show how they feel they are better than everyone else, “Hey, Pee Wee Cashman why do you wash your car with Evian Because that’s how us Highlanders roll motherfucker!) and even with their financial problems if the Skill Sets can’t afford to pay Manny that kind of coin then maybe Bernie Madoff should own the team.
Â
If it’s Manny’s Manny Being Manny attitude then I call bullshit, because right know the attitude of the New York Mets sucks as they have been labeled as “chokersâ€, “losers†and “frauds†and no matter what you think of Manny Ramirez he is none of those. In fact if he would sign with the Mets a collective “OH SHIT†would be heard through out the National League none louder than in the Land of Cheesesteaks. Everyone on the Mets can be intimidated (except of Johan Santana) but Manny is never intimidated. In fact Manny is feared and no one on the Mets (except of Johan Santana) is feared
Â
The longer Manny is on the market the more the pressure is on the Skill Sets to back up their words. Didn’t Jeffey Skill Sets say there is no budget and that even with the Madoof rip off didn’t he boast that the Skill Sets still had plenty of scratch? (go look it up like I told you I’m tired and now the more I write this post the more fucking cranky I’m getting) So back it  up Jeffey, Back it the fuck up and show me some balls and sign Manny Ramirez. The Mets are in dire need of a right handed bat and right in front of you is the best righty bat in the world and all it takes is money, money that you bragged about is still flowing into your pockets, that can secure this much needed bat. Manny is not a luxury item he is a neccisity.
Â
I’m not on a rant because of the Highlander spending spree as my sights are on the Phillies. That’s the team to beat and not only do I want to beat them I want them to pay for mocking the Mets and Mets fans. Yeah that’s right. Holiday sprit my ass. I want teams to look at that 2009 schedule and swallow hard and say “OH SHIT THE METS ARE COMING TO TOWNâ€.  You want to hate the Mets? Let’s give them something to hate a middle of the batting order with Manny-Beltran-Wright how’s that for hate?

You know, like Rickey BobbyI love the Baby Jesus and on this eve of his birthday and now that the news came down last night that the those despicable Highlanders of the South Bronx have flexed their economic muscle one again by signing Mark Teixiera to an auto company CEO contract of 8yrs/$180 mil I have asked the Baby Jesus to intervene to help us good people of the world. Not just us chosen people (Mets fans) but all of Baby Jesus’ people (non-Highlander fans) to make the Bronx Robber Barons’ experience failure and to show all the good hard working baseball people that you can’t buy a championship:
“Dear Baby Jesus,
I just want to wish you a happy birthday and hope you get some really swell gifts this year, gee that’s silly right I mean you’re the Baby Jesus and all things swell are from you so forget that. I come to you today with a very serious prayer. Now the last time I came to you with a serious prayer was 35 years ago when I prayed to see what those fleshy mounds were under Karen Esposito’s sweater and to this day I thank you every day for that, so you know I’m not one of these chronic prayers.
What my prayer today is I want you to stop the evil and destruction the New York Highlanders are perpetrating on baseball. Now I know your reaction is going to be, “is this idiot serious†and your right (as you usually are Baby Jesus) with all the suffering, war and dispair going on in the world why would you want you the Almighty Baby Jesus to get involved with something so trivial like what’s going on in MLB? Well, Baby Jesus as you know too well, I’m a very simple guy and I have only a few great pleasures in life, looking at women’ body parts, laughing at people with toilet paper on their shoe when the leave a rest room and baseball. I’ve seen a lot of women’ body parts in my life and I thank you for that and just this past week I not only got to see a guy leave the Men’s room at the Staten Island Mall with toilet paper on his shoe but also tucked in the back of his pants so I thank you for bit of juvenile humor but what I really, really want this Christmas season is for you to help make the New York Highlanders 2009 baseball season an out and out failure.
Now I know it’s against your ways to do bad things to people so I’m not asking for major injury or something catastrophic but I’m on my knees and lighting candles and not those little 25 cent candles but the big $1.00 candles in fact I’ll make a deal with you, if by the last day of May 2009 the New York Highlanders have a .500 record or below I’ll drop a 5 dollar bill in that candle offering box. If by July 4th the Highlanders are in such disarray that they begin pointing fingers at each other I will never use the F word in your church when the second collection comes around.
Look I’m asking for a lot I know but with all that I also want for you to help my favorite team the New York Mets win 100 games and the World Series in 2009. Ok, ok that is a big big request and I agree I may have over stepped my prayer boundaries but think back 23 years ago when the Mets won a World Championship. We all had a good time then am I right Baby Jesus? Com’on  admit it, the parties are always better at the peasant camps than in the Royal Palace, so here is your chance to have the peasants dancing in the streets and teach the Royalty that they ain’t all that.
You can go check my record. I send my kids to your school. I never miss a tuition payment. I work all the events at your church. I sell the raffle tickets, sell the candy bars, and work the Bingo games. I buy all your merchandise, beads, crosses, books and even when someone dies I go and buy the big commemorative Baby Jesus Mass Card. I’m not some fly by night follower of yours Baby Jesus; I’m a stone cold disciple so please Baby Jesus answer this prayer for me please. FAILURE FOR THE NEW YORK HIGHLANDERS AND A WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE NEW YORK METS. God Bless us all!            Â
