THE DIRTY LOWE DOWN

Well, so much for the quiet off season, as word comes via Scott Boras’ House Organ,- the Zelig like Jon Heyman, that the Braves have made a 4yr/$60 mil offer to the Boras/Lowe tag team. WHOA!!! I’ve been on board the Lowe bandwagon but if this offer is legit well for Lowe/Boras it’s too legit to quit.

How does Omar top that with a 4yr/$64 mil deal? Har-har-hardee-har-har would be the response out of Flushing.

The Braves are desperate after the defection of John Smoltz to the Olde Towne Team and the rumbling of the fan base that Frank Wren is a do nothing GM.  Also a factor here as it pertains to the Mets and Lowe, it seems Omar is the lone Lowe supporter among the decision makers in the organization with the rest of the brain trust clearly pro-Ollie Perez.

It could also be the old dirt and scandal from Lowe’ past is being brought back to the surface and the murmur of Lowe still in the grip of evil spirits.

So as it this story heats up it now looks like Ollie Perez will be the odd man in for the Mets as no way in the Mets up the ante in years or money to Lowe/Boras.

I still prefer Derek Lowe over OP as Lowe is a much more established and proven arm but at $15 mil a year for four years is too rich for my blood and a real overpayment for a guy who is not an ace.

What this does though is make OP the object of Omar’s affection but at what price? It’s reported (again by Zelig Heyman) that the Mets have met with OP and put a 3yr/$30 mil offer on the table, I’m sure Boras will counter with at least 5yr/$50 so figure OP will be back in the Flushing fold at 4yr/$40+mil with incentives and the like.

Hopefully there will be some kind of Mets news the next couple of day as we ready for our next installment of Pro Baseball Central this Thursday night (Jan 15th) at 9PM EST on Blogtalk Radio. So join us Thursday at 9 and call in and give us your opinions at (646) 595-4462.

(UPDATE: The AJC is reporting that Derek Lowe has signed the 4yr/$60mil deal with the Braves. Panic in Peachtree!)

“AND I LOVE THAT DIRTY WATER, OHHH $ITI FIELD YOU’RE MY HOME”

a HUGEtip of the Blue Mets cap to Can’t Stop The Bleeding for this outstanding post on some brown water running off a rusty beam at Jeffey’s Play House. I wonder what will fall down first $iti Field or Shea? Of all the the things I could think of that the Mets could have imported from Shea to $iti, brown water was not on the list, and yes I have an alibi for my whereabouts last week so it wasn’t me “christening” the new ball park.

“NO, IT AIN’T SO NEAT TO ADMIT DEFEAT, THEY CAN SEE NO REASON, ‘CAUSE THERE ARE NO REASONS, WHAT REASON DO YOU NEED TO BE SHOWN”

Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
Tell me why?
I don’t like Mondays.
I want to shoot
The whole day down.

First the Giants spit the bit, then this morning the 6:40 AM Staten Island Ferry was canceled so my usual Monday morning foul mood is intensified today. The Giants better hope that the new stadium they are building has some kind of wind baffle built in it because for all his heroics, Eli Manning turns into Tim Wakefield when the wind gets to 20 mph or more. Oh and thank you Plaxico Buress for letting down your teammates, fans and the whole Giants organization for your stupidity. Next time you want to shoot yourself, aim the gun a little fucking higher.

I’ll be rooting hard for the Cardinals on Sunday especially for my favorite Irish-American wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

Count me as a huge Joe Posnanski fan. On his blog he has a great post on Adam Dunn and Willie Bloomquist.    I wanted Bloomquist on the Mets but he signed with the Royals where he will get a lot of playing time but Posnanski shows the difference between Dunn fans and Bloomquist fans and his analysis is right on the money I am most definitely a BLOOMQUIST FAN.

Today is Hall of Fame day and the one guy we know for sure who is getting in is Rickey Henderson and the reason there is an MLB Network is just for Rickey’s acceptance speech which I have no doubt will be right there with FDR and JFK Inaugural speeches in fact I would love for Rickey to write Barrack Obama’ speech for his inauguration:

“The only thing we need to fear, is an opponent with an inside straight”

If I had a vote (that’ll be the day) here is how my ballot would look:

Rickey Henderson

Bert Blyleven

Jim Rice

Tim Raines

Rickey is a no brainer. Blyleven was a strike out machine and I also feel that longevity in the game is a plus and not a detriment (or as Mike Francesa would say “he’s a compylah” to me that’s not a knock) The thing with Rice, when you look at straight numbers you could make a case that Dewey Evans was as good as Rice but I always remember that Rice was feared by the opposition but I don’t remember Evans in that way. Rock Raines was the total package of hitting/speed/defense.

On the same subject, Mike Silva had Darren Viola (a/k/Repoz) of BBTF fame on his NY Baseball Digest show last night, discussing the HOF ballot for this year. First Mickey Rouke on Letterman and now Repoz on with Silva W-O-W!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is best interview/guest pairing sense Joe Franklin and Dee Dee Ramone!

I don’t know if this is old news or not but the Mets are intreseted in Derek Lowe and or Oliver Perez. In fact the Mets are hoping Lowe PAYS the Mets for the right to play for them.

LATHER, RINSE, REPEAT

The Mets will sign either Derek Lowe or Oliver Perez

Uh oh, fifteen minutes to Judge Wapner.

But they won’t try to sign them both

I’m an excellent driver.

The Mets have no interest in signing Manny Ramirez

Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway every Saturday. ‘Course the seats were originally brown leather now they’re a pitiful red.

Even though Omar loves Manny and supposedly has full autonomy over the baseball operation

It’s a 1949 Buick Roadmaster. Straight 8. Fireball 8. Only 8,985 production models. Dad lets me drive slow on the driveway. But not on Monday, definitely not on Monday.

But Jeffey Skill Sets has the final say on all money spent

‘Course, three minutes to Wapner.

The Mets have a dire need for a right handed bat in their line up

Uh oh fart. Uh oh fart.

But they’re happy with a left field platoon of Dan Murphy and Fernando Tatis

Ten minutes to Wapner. We’re definitely locked in this box with no TV.

But back to the pitching. Mets fans have been told that pitching is a priority but besides signing Frankie Rodriguez and trading for J J Putz, the starting rotation is in need of two more arms

It’s definitely very small in here.

I’m not excited about Tim Redding, are you?

I don’t think so. No. Definitely not.

And what about the second base situation, Gimp Castillio? PLEASE!!!!!

Serious injury book is a red book, that book is blue.

You know I can’t get away from the pitching staff, I mean it’s great that the 8th and 9th inning is set but the rotation is awfully thin,  wouldn’t be worth the Mets while to try and sign both Lowe and Perez

Of course you can’t have pancakes without maple syrup.

That’s what I’m saying, build a strong starting rotation to take the pressure off the bullpen.

Maple syrup is supposed to be on the table before the pancakes.

YES YES I see it the maple syrup is the starting pitchers and they get you to the back end  bullpen which is the pancakes or the main part of pitching staff I see I see

I like to drive slow on the driveway.

Like the Lowe negotiations? Well it’s one thing to “drive slow” but maybe you can step on the accelerator and sign Derek Lowe.

Course driving your car on this interstate is very dangerous.

Yeah but maybe it’s time to make a move here on Derek Lowe.

Yeah?

Yeah, if you’re asking me yeah do it make the move sign Derek Lowe and Oliver Perez Got that? DO IT! DO IT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These are not boxer shorts. Mine are boxer shorts. These are Hanes 32.

We’re fucked!!!!

BRING ON THOSE PHILLY PIGEONS

Different day some ol’ Mets news which means there is nothing to talk about. If not for the Rodriguez signing and the Putz trade this would be the worst off season since I started writing this blog which is going on seven years.

Derek Lowe is still on the ‘Ho Stroll, Petey wants to come back (I love you Petey but no, no ,no- time to move on with the Mets life and yours)  and there is still is a big need for a right handed corner outfielder but today and the next three days I am putting all that to the side as it’s time ot concentrate on football as the New York Football Giants get to defend their Super Bowl Championship with a play off game Sunday against the Philadelphia Pigeons.

Here’s is what we know about the Pigeons, they are Philly’s answer to the Mets as they never fulfill their fans desire with a Championship and know this too about Philadelphians They would trade 20 Phillies World Series Championships for One Pigeons Super Bowl Trophy. Philliy is a Pigeons Town first and foremost (with the Flyers second) but it’s too bad that Philly is running into the One NY team that has balls in the Football Giants.

Key to the game is Brandon Jacobs establishing his ball running prowess and the G-Men D-Line harassing the living shit out D-McMahon to the point he pukes (which he seems to do in big games)

This is a REAL NY-Philly rivalry and this time NY will come out on top

NY Football Giants 28

Philly Pigeons 17

GO BIG BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO THE HUSTLE

So Omar and his lieutenants sat down with Scott Boras at $it Field yesterday and while Omar sent Jeffey down the block on Roosevelt Ave to pick up some empanadas and plantains, the big boys talked contract with Borras’ stable of stars.

The top starlet on the list is Derek Lowe who won’t settle for the 3yr/$36 mil initial offer from the Mets but a face saving 3yr/$42 mil with a vesting option on a 4th year could make for a deal as it seems the propaganda out of the Lowe/Boras camp of suitors lining up is pure hearsay.

(UPDATE: Lowe will now meet with the Braves as they look to fill the void left by Smoltz shipping off to Boston. Now the off season is heating up GIDDY UP!!!!)

Could there be a way for the Mets to sign both Lowe and OP? I’m not even going in the Manny direction as it looks like that won’t happen but is there a way that Omar could squeeze a few more million out of the Skill Sets to make arguably the best starting rotation in baseball?

Talk about out of nowhere? John Smoltz to the Red Sox?

Dear Joe Girardi,

Please excuse my husband Mark for being absent for last nights game. He did not finish his chores at home and had to be punished. Hopefully Mark learned his lesson and will make sure there are no dishes left in the sink over night and use coupons when I send him to the Stop and Shop.

I know the team really needs Mark, put as you know sometimes you just have to put your foot down. I’m sure you understand my predicament.

                                                                         Sincerely,

                                                                         Leigh Teixeira

“YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!! NOT BATTING FOR PETE ABRAHAM, MIKE SILVA!

“WHO LET THE DOGS OUT”- Seems a stray dog from the junk yards of Willets Point ran a muck over $iti Field yesterday and was captured by construction workers and animal control officers. When questioned the dog stated she was just looking for the season ticket office as she wanted to buy 4 seats in the Sterling Section. Jeffey loves his Bitches!

Don’t forget to set you alarm for 9PM tonight and join myself and Joe McDonald for our first Pro Baseball Central of the new year on Blog Talk Radio. We want you to join in on the show so call in at (646) 595-4462
