This is a great piece, Steve, and I agree with everything you said. I'm seriously wondering whether I will ever be able to ignore the insult of the exclusivity. Since I walked up the stairs in the rotunda both times I've been to the stadium, I did not realize that one of the escalators was only for the club-dwellers. That makes me sick to my stomach. How anyone could not perceive the irony of doing that in the Robinson rotunda is beyond me.<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('145500','Dana Brand'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('145500','Dana Brand','This is a great piece, Steve, and I agree with everything you said.

“There is a real venomous vibe coming from a segment of Mets fan base that I have never experienced before in all the years I’ve rooted for this team.”

It’s because the team is gm’d by offirmative minaya, the fraud you have so vocally endorsed for several years now. Grumbling about the new field is merely a symptom of a deeper problem – the embarrassment and failure perpetuated by ofirmative and rewarded (see ofirmative’s four year extension….) by the wilpons.

I don’t care if the Wilpons cater to rich or poor. I want them to cater to people who like teams they can be proud of, not this guilty liberal rainbow coaltion of chokers, retreads, race-baiters (sheffield) and “gangstas.”

Translation – I’d rather have 100 more years of Shea with a 97 – 65 caliber team rather than this hateable mob known as the 2009 Mets in their state-of-the-art field.

Mets, or Dodgers? I cant remember. Citi emphasizes to much on the Dodgers, probably because without our friend Jackie Robinsons help,''the Mets'' would consist of David Wright, and Ryan Church.

Otherwise, I love Citi Field! The only thing that really pisses me off is the fact we cant see the out of town score board from our seats. I can live without the lineups only because I don't find myself stalking the Mets, but I consistently find myself relying on the help of other teams that are in the our division. The foods great, and everyones ready to see past the last two years.

Steve,

Well done piece. The place is beautiful and beats the shit out of Shea (can anyone say "clean"?), but the things you point out are spot on. The lineup, the out-of-town scores, all the stuff that matters to baseball nuts like us, that stuff needs to be corrected. You did well with Prom 511, since you're basically behind the dish. I'm in Prom 538, I lose all CF and LF fly balls, and can't see the out-of-town scores no matter how hard I try. So I guess, some lessons here for the Wilpons, and some for me too. Next year, try like hell to get out of Prom 538!<div class="comment-remix-meta"><a href="#" class="replyto" onclick="replyto('145327','Rich'); return false;">Reply</a> - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('145327','Rich','Steve,\r\n\r\nWell done piece.

You know how I feel about the Dodgers stuff everywhere… it’s tough. If you checked out the shop on the first floor, you’d see a Dodgers jersey on the right hanging before any of the Mets Jerseys. Hell, you can buy a Pee Wee Reese jersey next to a Delgado one.

Isn’t that the Wilpon way… make something fantastic and then shit on it so nobody can appreciate it? Dave Howard was getting really defensive on the fan about it.

I truthfully think Fred & Jeff have resentment toward Mets fans and a dramatically different outlook on life while Dave Howard is impossibly arrogant and corporate. Our team seems hijacked by non-Met fans and I think that’s the core of the issue.

They really need a fan liason to Fred directly and he needs to get off his obnoxious ego trip and realize if you beg for tax payer money… respect us!

Steve, excellent, excellent point that the lineups aren't on the scoreboard until gametime and how that was the first thing you checked at Shea - and if it wasn't up, you talked about that, and if it changed, you talked about that.

The ads are so low class. They could have put up something Mets-related there... but instead... sellyourgoldandgetrippedoff.com.

The plexiglass is a real problem.
