Man United humbled on the big stage...finally!

I have to admit, my fav team in the English Premiership is crosstown rival Man City, so I already have an anti-United predisposition... but I enjoyed seeing mighty United so exasperated and ineffective, and Barcelona looked great.

Arriba Messi, and Barcelona!
Reply - Quote

It was nice to see Sir Alex' boys get there come upins. Man U looked very flat in the first half as Barca came out flying like a basketball fast break. Maybe it was the all white uni's I'm not used to seeing the Red Devils in white
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('148421','kranepool','<a href=\'#comment-148418\' rel=\"nofollow\">@Eagle<\/a> - \r\n\r\nIt was nice to see Sir Alex\' boys get there come upins.
Rich,

I don't necessarily disagree, but even against the Nationals someone has to get 27 outs and Livan did that all by himself. It's a bonus to have a guy spare the bullpen for the night. It's the one reason I preferred Hernandez over Redding or Figueroa or any of the other options.

I like the way this team is constructed as compared with the previous years. The Mets have a good rotation and a solid bullpen. Not sure it's quite as good as 2006, but I think the closer is better than the Mets had then. Even the loss of a starter that the Mets were probably counting on for 15 wins hasn't been a big issue. (And, no, I haven't forgiven Omar for burdening the team with OP's contract.)

Sheffield was a great signing. Even Ramon Martinez is looking acceptable as a third string shortstop.

I wish there was more depth in the organization. I thought we'd see more homegrown talent coming through. I really thought Omar would build a solid youth program, but so far it's not been great.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('148417','Eagle','Rich,\r\n\r\nI don\'t necessarily disagree, but even against the Nationals someone has to get 27 outs and Livan did that all by himself.
Omar during the broadcast last night. "You don't want to put star players on the DL, because you won't have them for a long period of time." I'm not making that up, he said it. This is the guys who waits (May 13th Reyes injury, for example), lets him play 2 games (May 19th and 20th), then puts him on the DL, with a return date of June 5. If he had put Reyes on the DL on May 14th, Reyes would be healed and ready May 29th. You don't DL players because they will be out a long time? Is he kidding? If I'm Jeff, and my GM says that on tv with his history of similar incidents to Reyes, I'd fire him before the start of the next inning. Every time he opens his mouth, his incompetence shows even more. I want to like the guy, but it is impossible. And let's wait a bit before giving him too much credit for Livan. As Steve says, it was the Nats. If he throws a similar game in September against FL or ATL, then we should give Omar a star for Livan.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('148365','Rich','Omar during the broadcast last night. \"You don\'t want to put star players on the DL, because you won\'t have them for a long period of time.\" I\'m not making that up, he said it.
