OLIVER PEREZ REFUSES TO TAKE ONE FOR THE TEAM

Who thinks Oliver Perez to the bullpen is a good plan? I didn’t think so. If you thought Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis , Armando Benitez  and Doug Sisk were the most hated relievers in Mets history OP could be jump to the number one spot on that list just not just for ineffectiveness but for his out right selfishness by not taking assignment to the minors.

I’d love to kill the Mets for not having the balls to ship OP’s sorry ass out to Buffalo but their hands are tied with OP having to give his ok for the demotion and it looked like he was ready to do so but Scott Bora$ got in his ear and OP revered course. Too bad.

OP can’t work on his problems out of the pen. J-Man won’t use him in a big spot so his days will be sitting idle in the pen eating licorice and sunflower seeds. At least in Buffalo he stays in the rotation and works with pitching coach Rickey Bones to get his mechanics straighten out.  Again, what will it take for OP to do the right thing, blowing a relief assignment and getting humiliated by the $iti Field crowd? It shouldn’t come to that.

METS WIN HAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHOOOOOOO!

You know what? I’m going to take credit for last nights Mets win. Yeah that’s right , if the Mets go off and rack off 15 or 17 game in a row I’m taking full credit, in fact if the Mets win the NL East and Carlos Beltran wins the NL MVP Award I want that trophy delivered to me with  a note from Beltran thanking me for my motivational push that made him the best player in baseball in 2009.  The Mets were looking for an “edge” and that’s me THE EDGE.  David Evans better get a new nickname because I earned mine.

Please, please people hold your applause, my work isn’t done yet as one game does not a turnaround make but I’m working on it.

My next pupil will be Sean Green, I have to get into his head and make him a feared warrior when he comes to the mound. My first order to him will be to grow a Fu Manchu moustache and then we are going to a hair salon on Roosevelt Ave to get him hair extensions (goin’ old school mullet here) and before every game I will beat him with a Kimbo stick.

Now all this I’ve done for the Mets have been at no charge, if they want Ollie P straight that will cost them as I’m THE EDGE not JESUS.

HAS OMAR MINAYA SEEN THE LIGHT?

Looks like I didn’t miss much this weekend as it pertains to the Mets. I didn’t find out until Saturday morning that Big Pelf and Murph had big games to help the Mets beat the Phillies and with the help of another Scoutmasters Black Berry (one of the things about camping on a military installation is you get cell service in the woods) we followed the Mets, Ollie P collapse while cooking dinner that almost spoiled my appetite (but not quite as I hiked about 4 miles around Lake Fredrick so I was starving) but one thing we learned this weekend is if you want to know the state of the Mets, just ask a Mets fan.

What Mets fans have been crying in despair about since the called third strike that Carlos Beltan took in the 9th inning of  Game 7 of the 2006 NLCS has finally been realized by the teams architect Omar Minaya that his team is not exactly a group of manly men. Minaya has finally realized that his team is a bunch of Fluffer-Nuters” :

“We have good guys, solid professionals,” Minaya says. “There is a smile on David Wright’s face, a smile on Jose Reyes’s face. But there is not an edge to them.

“Some people see edge as leadership. Sometimes, you need a little meanness to your game. Some people perceive leadership as meanness.

“I couldn’t tell you that we have that type of guy. We have leaders. But everyone’s perception of leadership is different.”

Minaya says that Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado possess a makeup similar to those of Wright and Reyes. He adds that two new Mets, outfielder Gary Sheffield and infielder Alex Cora, provide more of an edge.

The problem here is both Sheffield and Cora are bench players so their edge is kept on the pine most days. This the same problem the 90’s Mets had when their guy with the edge was John Franco you have to have an everyday guy that has the ball sack to get in guys faces and tell the oppositions to kiss his ass. David Wright, Jose Reyes, Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado are very proper gentlemen in fact the one ornery guy in that bunch (Reyes) gets reprimanded when he tries to fire up his team and is told “Tisk, tisk young man that dancing and prancing will not be tolerated here”

So there may be only one solution here and that means one or two of this core would have to go. Don’t look at it as Mike Francesa being right but more the Bill Simmons ‘Ewing Theory” coming true once again. If I had to make the call I’d be shopping Beltran and Delgado today. Nothing against them especially Beltran as I feel he is an outstanding player but by dealing him you would get back multiple players that just might ignite this team and get it back on track. Think the Red Sox, Giants or even the Highlanders would be buyers in a Beltran market ? Hell yeah! So go ahead and call me all the assholes you want to to think about trading Beltran and Delgado but someone has to go and both guys make the most sense to deal or hope the Mets sit pat and finish out of the money once again. It’s time for Omar to react and shake this team up and get this fan base talking about what’s on the field on at $iti Field instead what to eat at the food court.

So after shiting the bed on Saturday in Philly, Ollie P said he was embarrassed by his performance and would go to the bushes if the Mets felt that was the best way to get his mojo back, Well I guess Scott Bora$ got wind of the comment and told OP you will do no such thing. So OP, with the silicon chip inside his head, says now he won’t go to Buffalo, Bingo or any other low level league to get himself right. So my feelings went from “Way to go, Olllie get your mechanics straight atta boy” to “You over paid douche bag, give back the money you thief” Great job doing what’s best for your client Scott.

Part of the Bora$ missive to OP was to make Perez wrap his knee in an ice pack and tell everyone that his knee has been bothering all year. That makes OP nothing but a fucking coward.

Mike Silva at NYBD calls out Omar and the Mets management as well in a great post at his site.

Dave Singer tells us to avert our eyes for a moment from the Ollie Perez / Sean Green pile up on the side of the road to look at the freak show that is Jose Reyes season so far.

TIME TO HEAD FOR THE HILLS

No blogging for the weekend as I’m off the U.S. Military Academy in West Point for a weekend camping trip with my sons Boy Scout troop. Even though the troop has a strict no electronics policy when it comes to these trips, the subversive that I am will sneak a radio in my bag to try to listen or at least get a score of this weekend Mets-Phillies series. Hopefully my tent mate won’t turn me in and have my ass hauled off to the stockade.

Sure it’s a big series but I think it’s to the Mets benefit that they are playing in Philly since they are so concerned about fan reaction. Remember the words of Bobby Knight, “when you start listening to the people in the stands, you end up joining them”. It seems that it’s not a lack of focus with the Mets but misplaced focus that is doing them in.

On that subject a must listen is Mike Silva’s interview with Kevin Kernan of the NY Post  that connects the paranoia of the owner and front office rubbing off on the uniform personnel. Silva’s comment says it all:

The Mets have a reputation for trying to control the news around their club. It never works and often makes things even worse in the long run. How can you expect your players to toughen up when management has an equally, if not worse, thin skin? What’s next? You’re going to throw the fans out and play in an empty stadium so you don’t hear any boos? Keep playing like this and you might not need to worry about that.

HOME RUN  Mike!!!!

David Lennon calls out the lack of intestinal fortitude of the Mets:

Often, it’s hard to pin down the intangibles with numbers, but not in this case. With Wednesday’s loss to the Marlins, the Mets (9-12) stumbled to 1-10 when trailing after six innings. After seven, they are 0-11.

The newest member of the Douche Bag Hall of Fame is Philadelphia Inquirer columnist John Gonzalez. Its guys like Gonzalez that makes the demise of newspapers easier to take. If a blogger ever wrote a poorly put together piece like this Buzz Bissinger would go to his mother’s basement and kick his ass. I’d call Gonzalez a rank amateur but the fact that he lives and worked in Philadelphia is punishment enough. For a fan base that for vast majority of its existence has been apathetic towards it’s baseball team, they really need a good strong glass of shut the fuck up. Phillies fans are starting to make Highlander fans tolerable.

Shrek and Johnny Bench Santos are safe for a while longer and Brian Schneider is still feeling the effects of a sore calf. Take your time Bri.

Enjoy your weekend and while your snug in your bed think of me sleeping in the woods and don’t smirk.

LET’S  GO METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
