BV, second best manager the Dodg...ooops, that uniform thing still gets me, Mets have ever had...I know, I know, but I will still say that the Mets won in spite of Davey Johnson, not because of him.
Reply - Quote

I despised manuel after his first pres conference. He was laughing, joking, and smiling when the decorum in that situation calls for a little bit of respect for the outgoing guy (randolph) whether you liked him or not.

Of course the press, being the lazy, lapdogs that they are (see obama + MSNBC) know their jobs are much easier if that slather their subjects with praise and laugh at their quips, so 'ol jerry got a pass right from the start, and then rewarded his puppies with ready-to-print quotations.

Which leads us to 'gangsta', a term the proprietor of this site has embraced and that makes me want to vomit.

Trying real hard hear to remember Gil Hodges comparing Tom Seaver to a mobster, but I must have missed that game. jerry manuel compares a ballsy start by santana to a thuggish, criminal culture that glorifies cop-killing and women-raping and everyone LOVES him 'cause he's so cool, man!!

The entire world, includng the wilpons, will come around to my point of view on manuel, only after they've wasted two years and $2 mil (guess?) on his salary.

Bobby V back in NYC? Won't happen....word gets around the league, and no smart, employable manager will report to Somar Sotominaya and Tony "Iago" Bernazard.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('151329','don hahn','I despised manuel after his first pres conference.
Problem with the roster is it's poorly put together too many square pegs in a round hole. But be that as it may I think Nick Evans played a descent LF so why not let him play there and platoon Sheff/Church in RF or give Sheff the bulk of play in RF and let Chruch play twice a week? Chruch has been a huge disapointment
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('151304','kranepool','Problem with the roster is it\'s poorly put together too many square pegs in a round hole.
Eagle,

It's not some much guys not playing hard but I get the sense the manager is lossing faith in his players. I have never heard a manager cry about injuries like Manuel and I like the guy but in the face of adversity he is not showing the leadership you want in a manager and I feel it's making the players tight on the field. I really feel for Wright as I said in a previous post I wouldn't throw him a pitch to hit in any of his at bats because who is protecting him if Sheff is out of the lineup Tatis? PLEASE!!!!
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('151303','kranepool','Eagle,\n\nIt\'s not some much guys not playing hard but I get the sense the manager is lossing faith in his players.
Caryn, Steve,

I don't see the Mets too often. Radio only, as you know.

My question is this: are there guys who aren't really playing hard? Whether they stink or not is another thing, but are they trying? If yes, who are they? From the sound of the game, I don't get that impression. Guys may be pressing at the plate and it doesn't help that Wright has not gone cold again. He's so streaky and, as night follows day, so are the Mets.

Murphy's bonehead play in the first last night was very costly, but that was not born of a lack of effort, but of a guy trying to do too much. He should have taken the sure out instead of trying to be Keith Hernandez.

By the way, what happened to Nick Evans that his chance was so limited? I can't understand why he was back on the bench last night. Has Manuel benched him for "only" going 1-3 against Sabbathia? I thought he was going to get a few swings. Is his defense worse than Tatis'?
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('151301','Eagle','Caryn, Steve,\r\n\r\nI don\'t see the Mets too often.
Steve, I could not agree more. But there is one thing missing:

"there are young guys in that (locker) room playing their asses off."

No one on this team is doing that.
