CAMP HAS BECOME UN-BEAR-ABLE

With one more night left in our camping trip we just finished a leaders meeting to deal with the two young bears that are now stalking the camp site.  I’ m operating on about 2 hours sleep as we were alerted last night around 10 PM that a bear about 2 yrs old and standing well over 6 ft tall and over 200 lbs was in our general vicinty. So we the leaders stayed up most of th enight keeping vigil on the camp site.

To make matters worse my son and four other boys from our troop spent the night in the woods about 5 miles from our camp to fullfill thier wilderness survival reqs for a merit badge. The boys go into the woods for a night with just a sleeping bag, knife, water, mat, and two hot dogs and an apple. When they returned to camp this moring around 6 AM my son informed me that he saw a bear near their shelter but he was scared off by the noise.

With all that I’m ready to go home and get some concrete under my feet by the way Jerry Manuel needs to play Daniel Murphy every day and Omar needs to give Livan Hernandez his release, and Jeffey and Freddie Skill Sets need to come out hiding and speak to the fan base on how they are going to get this franchise back on track not for this season but for 2010 and beyond.

Time for everyone in the Mets organization to man up and realize this season is done and work on dealing off guys like Ryan Church, Garry Sheffield, Brian Schineder  and Fernando Tatis to name four.

It would be nice if someone in the Mets organization had the guts of a 13 year old Boy Scout

“HEY BUDDY, HOW ABOUT THOSE METS”

After cooking breakfast and getting everyone off to merit badge class I finally get to take a shower and then go to the scout masters lodge to read my e mails and check out what calamities have befallen on the Mets.

Usually I go to the shower and no one says much but today I had on my BELTRAN 15 t-shirt, and my Mets Beach towel, along with my SANTANA 57 sling bag is I kind of put it out there that my allegiances lies with the Mets.

Now I love that I never know what has happen in Flushing until I hit the scout master lounge but today as I was shaving another scout leader comes in and sees my Mets regalia laid out on the bench and ruins my morning “Hey howa ’bout those Mets winning last night” UGGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!

I’m very happy the MEts won and that Ollie P is back to being Ollie P with all the walks and all the drama and again adding to the lore of his by beating a top team in the league. I’m also giddy that Danny Murphy got a start and not only hit two doubles but made an incredible play at 1st Base. Please tell me Keith said that he i simpressed with Murph at 1st? Maybe now J-Man will let 28 play everyday. But my one pleasure while I scratch my mosquito bites, being suprised on the results of last nights game was ruined.

I hope that guy is in a kyack on the lake later so I can tip him over.

COLLAPSE COMES EARLY THIS SEASON

Looks like I’m not missing much Manny was booed, the Mets can’t hit, another error and Fernando Tatis still gets to play everyday while Daniel Murphy sits and sits.

Looks as though the Mets will be sellers instead of buyers and that could be a good thing, as it may be best to sell vets for prospects and then come the off season a major re construction of the player personnel is in order.

Looks like the annual collapse came early this year and in the end that may be a good thing.

I get to leave the camp today so it’s off to Wal-Mart for some supply’s and a cup of Dunkin Dounuts coffee but the best part pf heading to the outside world of upstate NY is getting to see all them Cougars in their muffin tops spilling over their  too tight jeans YAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOOOO

IS HELP ON THE WAY?

Trying to dry out from a soaking rain this morning so retreving my Mets news took a bit longer than usual.

Looks like the shake up we have been looking for will be internal as OP, Angel P and Jon Neise are ready to pitch in and F-Mart goes back to Buffalo and Tim Redding and Fernando Nieve go back to obscurity.

I’m sorry I’m missing Manny Being Manny in Flushing tonight and you can boo him and call him a cheat but if he were the Mets left fielder life would be a lot easier and first palce would be closer to reality than a pipe dream.

Time to cook lunch yummmmmmm sloppy joes while standing ankle deep  in mud

HELLO MUDDA, HELLO FATTA HERE I AM AT CAMP AQUAHONGA

Greetings from the wilderness and from the looks of things I’m not missing much from our boys in Blue and Orange.

Reading the post on other sites (sorry I can’t link the sites as I’m not only pressed for time but the internet connection is so bad I’ve named it WILPON) and there looks like there will be a big fan revolt come September.

The bulls eye is squarley on Omar’s back and it everytime J-Man speaks after a loss he sticks another dagger in Minaya’ back.

Manuel’s mantra now is we will do this with pitching and defense and tells everyone this is all I’ve got and I’m making the best of it.

The more I see the more it looks like there may need to be an organizational cleansing on the horrizon.

go to go I have wood to chop (He’s a lumber Jack and he’s ok……….)

TIME FOR A NEW PLAN FOR THE METS

Sorry for no posting yesterday but I am preparing for my annual Boy Scout camping trip to Ten-Mile River  and my son decided it would be nice to get new sleeping bags and a frame backpack since he is taking  hiking and wilderness survival  merit badge classes this trip, so it was off to Campmor in Paramus NJ and from there it was on to Coney Island and our first Brooklyn Cyclones game of the season and it looks like if there is any meaning full baseball being played by the Mets organization this summer it will be at Key Span Park.

The Cyclones won their 8th straight home game last night coming from behind in the bottom of the 9th to win 3-2. Nicholas Santomuro had the game winning hit with a blast off the left field wall. The Cyclones are now 12-2 this season and have a 7 game lead over Aberdeen in the NY-Penn League’ McNamarra Division.

At some point we Mets fans just have to come to the realization that this is not a very good team and stop screaming for a trade because right now a trade is like a band aid on a gunshot wound ,what should be debated is what direction is the organization headed and what can Omar Minaya do to fix what is a team that is so fundamentally flawed that everyone from the fans, owner, on field personnel, front office and coaches and managers throughout the organization should be embarrassed to wear a Mets uniform.  Its one thing to suck but to suck and not have the grasp of the basic fundamentals of baseball is scandalous. For all the heat Minaya takes for not making deals and for the one’s he makes that don’t work and for the bad contracts he has saddled the organization with (can’t wait for Ollie Perez to come back against the Dodgers next week, glad I’ll be in the woods for that) the lack of baseball intellect on display by the Mets has not gone reported and Omar has not been called out for it.

Omar is like me when I go to IKEA, I can pick out some really great book shelves and a gorgeous entertainment center  but when I get them home , I have no clue how to put them all together.  Minaya has an eye for talent and can find some bargains in the dumpster but he is at a loss at putting a full roster together.

Which is the big problem with the Mets, too many square pegs not fiting in round holes. Too many players out of position and too many players old and over the hill that break down physically and production wise when they are tested on a daily basis.

With his contract extension kicking in after this season Minaya isn’t going of to be fired  but there really needs to be a shake up in the front office maybe bring in a Paul DePodsda type of exec to work with Omar to bring a different perspective in judging talent and maybe better way of constructing a 40 man roster. Something needs to change as the way it’s laid out now ain’t working.

BE CAREFUL D-WRIGHT OR YOU’LL SLEEP WITH THE FISH

With a win under their belt in thrilling fashion no less, the talk this morning is not about Big Pelf’ outstanding performance pounding the strike zone down low like a blacksmith, but about a former Met who is still on the Skill Set dole as a roving instructor, SNY commentator and the now the spokesman for management John Franco.

Those statements that Franco made on Sirius/XM  MLB Home Plate channel with Jeff Joyce and Kevin Kennedy was part Franco’ observation and mostly it was John doing his duty for the Skill Sets. The only thing missing was at the end of the interview hearing Jeffey Skill Set saying “I’m Jeff Wilpon and I approve this message”

See Jeffey wants no part of taking on his team, instead of himself waiting for the team to come home and going into the clubhouse and letting them know that he does not hold Omar Minaya, Jerry Manuel or any of the front office people responsible for this slide and is putting the bulls eye right on the players back. And I (I hope you all are sitting down) applaud him for that. I just wish he would have the balls to do it himself and not send Clemenza Franco to do his dirty work. Franco in fact went out of his way to praise Jerry Manuel and his coaches for giving the players the proper instruction during spring training and working extremely hard in the ‘fundies” and making it out that it’s the players who are at fault. It’s about time that the players got a good swift kick in the ass. The message from management is loud and clear to the team “Don’t worry about what management is doing, just shut the fuck up and play”

Nothing that Franco said was out of line in fact in fact isn’t in a convenient  winky-dink that as Franco was telling Joyce and Kennedy that he feels the Mets play more like individuals than as a team and that some players are more “me” than “we” guys that J-Man had all his ladies take the bus”  Franco called out the team as looking at padding their stats than worrying about moving runners over and stealing a base when it’s to the teams advantage and not the individuals gain, and how many times have we wanted D-Wright to take the reins of the clubhouse ?

I know this for a fact Franco will have no problem walking into that clubhouse when the team arrives back in Queens on Tuesday. Ask any Met who played with Franco and they will tell you he was the most feared guy in that clubhouse, and I guarantee that if D-Wright wants a sit down with Franco, Johnny will be more than happy to accommodate him.

What this message does as well is let the players, media and fans know that Jerry Manuel and Omar Minaya are not getting fired today, tomorrow or next year but if I were a Mets player I’d be careful buying green bananas.

“LET’S LOCK THE DOOR AND THROW AWAY THE KEY”

I did not see last nights Mets-Brewski game as I was attending the Staten Island Highlanders-Aberdeen Iron Birds game that was delayed 1 hour due to daily rain event here in NYC, but before the game I was a guest on Mike Silva’ NY Baseball Digest radio program, where Mike and I discussed the state of the Mets and what direction we felt this team should take. We both agreed that Mets fans have to relax a bit with their yelping for Omar Minaya to make a knee jerk trade as it’s not about trading, in fact this would be the worst time to make a deal of top prospects for a D-list of players that some fans think will lift this team. But one of the things we discussed was a Tweet I read from ESPN1050 that the had info that Jerry Manuel was told by the front office to knock off the rhetoric about injuries and calling out the front office to make a deal that has added gasoline to the fans/media bon fire this by the way I brought up yesterday and I agree with management telling Manuel to zip it.

Well it seems J-Man has gotten the message loud and clear as he closed the doors to his clubhouse after the game (another suggestion I brought up) and from the sound of it, reversed his sermon and told his team to stop looking for outside help and look at each other. Manuel tried to stem the tide of individualism that seems to have crept into his clubhouse and from this vantage point it looks like Manuel’ job is on the line. Not for this season but for next.

I don’t think it’s the fact that the team is losing but the way they lose that has them being mocked and laughed at throughout baseball and has caused embarassment to all who root for the Mets. The Mets players are lucky I’m not the team owner because I would have closed the club house door with a handful of player release forms in my hand and tell the players that the forms are loaded and “I’m not afraid to use them”

The last time the Mets had a month like this June was back in September 2003 when the Walking Cadaver Art Howe was in charge and “battling” all the way to a 7-19 record. That was the Met team with such notables as Jason “Goggles” Phillips, Vane Wilson, Tsuyoshi Shinjo, Danny Garcia and The Brothers Glavine. Another fact that gave me a “WOW” moment was that Pedro Feliciano is the only player to play for both losing Mets squads. Felicano has been a Met for 6 years AMAZING!!
