METS FRONT OFFICE ARRIVES IN INDY

Good to see the Mets have Gil Meche on their radar, as the stories are flying fast and furious tha the Mets and Royals are looking to become trade partners at the winter Meetings.

I like Meche as a pitcher to fill the 3 or 4 spot in the rotation. He throws a heavy fastball and a nice curve that induces a lot of ground ball outs. His biggest draw back is his walk rate. His BB/9 rate last year was 4.5 with a career mark of 3.65, which if he stays at is tolerable. Meche also had some health issues with his back and shoulder fatigue.

The Royals are looking to dump Jose Guillen and his $12 mil salary. The interesting thing with Guillen is how does it affect Fernando Martinez ? F-Mart is again sitting out time from his Winter League team, due to blisters on his hands. His manager is no other than Moises Alou who of course advocates giving your hands a golden shower to toughen them up. I bet Tiger Woods has hands like tree bark, who knew Eldrick Woods was such a freak? But, I digess….

What does Mets management think of F-Mart? Do they still hold him in high esteem as a top prospect and the LF of the future or do they look at them as a talent that will never reach full potential? If he still in the Mets plans as a big leaguer the could go with Guillen and allow F-Mart to finally show he can play a full baseball season without getting hurt where he loses large chuck of playing time. With the names we’ve been hearing, Guillen and Pat Burrell it looks as if the Mets are still looking at F-Mart as the long term LF option. If it comes down to either Guillen or Burrell I’d rather keep Angel Pagan.

Of course it all goes out the window if Matt Holiday becomes signable but I doubt that will happen.

  1. Angel Pagan = Timo Perez

  2. 1- F-Mart’s stock has fallen like my 401K last year. He really needs to play a full season in AAA and rake big time.

2- I’m in mourning over the trade of Brian Bruney. Maybe we’ll get K-Rod’s reaction.

  3. 2 years too late on Menche. He was FA 2 years ago along with Ted Lilly, but Omar did not possess the foresight needed to see how these pitchers would add much needed depth to a rotation that inclueded Pedro and Galvine(in his last year of his contract), and younger unknowns like Maine and Pelf.
As always with the muts 2years too late.

watching Mets Hot Stove on SNY, and Bobby O preached you need pitching, pitching and more pitching. Then Carlin interviewed Bobby Cox who said you never have enough pitching hopefully the Mets front office understand this concept

  5. kranepool says:

Bruney was never the same since he was called out by Frankie Rodz I guarantee Bruney will make up a phony injury when the Nats and Mets play next season

And that may have been the biggest Mets victory of 2009!

  7. Is it me, or does everyone else’s stomach turn when you see Clueless Omar on Hot Stove, and think your summer of 2010 rests on his incompetent shoulders? Does Jeff see this, is he in denial, or just too cheap to have to pay C.O. and a new GM simultaneously?

My stomach turns when: I see Omar. I hear Omar. I see “Omar” typed. There is no hope for him. There is never any sign that he learns. Notice how he sat on his hands thru trading deadlines of 07,08,09.

Yes, Jeff W is clueless. The danger is that he doesn’t know what he doesn’t know. He and pops wilpon don’t yet know that they are horrible baseball owners. Kinda like the community organizer doesn’t know he’s a horrible president. Time will fix both situations. Three years for the community organizer situation and 40 years for the Mets (assuming Jeff Wilpon dies at age 85.)

How can we change this? Hurt the wilpons financially. NOW. No games, no hats, no SNY, no ’86 DVDs, etc.
