Baseball’s garage sale begins tonight A/K/A the non-tendered players go on the free agent market and there are some players on the list that would help the Mets immeasurably like:
RHP Kevin Corriea
The Padres are trying to have the lowest payroll since the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings started paying players so a very good #4 pitcher like Corriea will be sitting out there to the highest bidder. Right now Corriea would be better than anyone other than Johan Santana in the Mets rotation.
Garret Atkins/Ryan Garko
Either player would be an excellent compliment to Daniel Murphy as a right handed hitting tag team partner at first base.
RHP Chien-Ming Wang
Yes he is coming off injury and yes he is a Highlander but Wang is perfect for the Mets if sound as a ground ball pitcher, Wang won’t be ready to pitch until May but Omar has signed bigger question marks than Wang so he’s worth an incentive laden contract. I’ll be surprised if the Highlanders let him go though.
Alex Cora is in mid season form. I guess the Mets will extend his contract now.

Mike Jacobs is our guy. He is meant to play at CitiField.
Then take on same amount of Vernon Wells’ contract as you would pay to Bay and try to get Halladay.
Question for Mets fans- should we spend a lot of money now on Bay or Holiday, or plug the LF hole as best we can and wait a year to try to spend big on Carl Crawford?
@peter –
Gotta get some power for “my” Mets. Bay is the answer.
Another question- If we can afford only one, who should we buy? Lackey, Bay, or Holiday? I go pitching. The lineup will be better with all the players coming back from the DL.
You think waiting a year and getting crawford is goign to solve our problems?
Sign Olivo for 3. He carries the bulk of the load this year, then becomes part of a left/right C platoon with Thole in 2010.
Thoughts? Plus it keeps Molina away.
How about trading for Daivd De Jesus and Gil Meche ?
Michael, are you coming out the closet? Gotta get some power for “my” Mets. Bay is the answer.
Peter, I wanted Lackey but after doing Pro Baseball Central last week Joe MacDonald said the word on the street is teams are very worried about Lackey’s elbow
Crawford is very good but he doesn’t give you the power that Bay does
Rich the more you look at you ‘re right Olvio would be the better choice, besides is Thole the sure thing that most Mets fans think he is?
Thanks, Steve. What’s Omar’s number? Let me work on convincing him, too.

Not a chance, babe.
