Omar is bad news, but getting rid of him not that easy. The problem is, like Eichmann and so many others, he's "just following orders". All those claims about pursuing Lackey, Halliday, Bay etc are just so much BS, too fool the fan base into thinking ownership is really trying to do something.
Bay was supposedly offered $ 64MM, but only after Boston had mad its second offer ($ 64-65 MM). Remember, Boston's first offer was rejected in November. Lackey, Halliday the same, never a serious offer made or discussion taking place. Absolutely no desire to spend what is necessary for QUALITY players.
Sure, there's little bits of dumb money being flushed down the terlet for Alex Cora (2.5 MM), two backup catchers (and no starter) as window dressing, and that's typical of what fans will see more of this off-season.
Owners used their press lackies (those who didn't fight them) to leak rumors of their tremendous losses on the Madoff scam, and hoiw they're suffering financially. The truth is, although they may have "lost" their $ 42 MM investment, SDNY and SEC records show that Madoff paid them over $ 93 MM in "profits".
Time to bid adieu to the Mets and CitiField (the latter the best example of corrupt construction since Walter O'Malley was a bag man for the Jummy Walker gang.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('156397','Richard Deegan','Omar is bad news, but getting rid of him not that easy.
Best line...by Teflon Omar at the Mets' party yesterday...
"We have a plan, we like our plan..."

Well, for Christ's sake Omar, I hope so. Would have sounded funny to hear this, or at least funnier, because what you said already sounded pathetically funny, "we have a plan, we hate it, but we have one."

The folks in the media, who say they love him (and I believe it) need to ask why the folks in the organization will not bring back Bobby V. If you are not going to spend money on talent, as opposed to the Luis Castillo's & Oliver Perez's of the world, at least give us a manager that seems to be able to make chicken salad out of chicken s**t.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('156384','pfh64','Best line...by Teflon Omar at the Mets\' party yesterday...\r\n\"We have a plan, we like our plan...\"\r\n\r\nWell, for Christ\'s sake Omar, I hope so.
I slightly disagree this time. Saying Omar sucks isn't the easy thing, it is the right thing. Every problem this team has comes from his incompetence. let's look at a few examples:

They are not spending aggressively this winter. Lackey goes elsewhere, we get old catchers. Why? Because Omar has saddled the team with bad contracts (Castillo, OP to name 2), so they are reluctant to spend, or allow Omar to spend and trust his decisions.

They did not get Halladay. Why? They have no prospects. Don't buy Omar's rhetoric at last year's daedline, about "team liking our prospects". The most generous reports rank the Mets system at 17, many rank them in the 20's. The Mets have nothing of value, so they cannot get Halladay, or any other veteran who would cost prospects.

Omar makes personnel decisions based on bringing in people he likes, not people who can help the team. He bids against himself to get them. For years, everyone said Livan would eventually be a Met, because Omar likes him. Well, Omar got him. He got Livan about 5 years past his prime, and Livan could not get my grandmother out after June 1. He will do the same with molina, who will be hitting .240 with 6 HRs in July, since Molina is past his prime.

Get rid of him now, and we may have a chance in 2-3 years. Keep him around, and this shit will continue. Jeff could have sent a message to the fan base by making changes after a horrible year, instead, he brings back the man who is destroying the frnachise.
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('156357','Rich','I slightly disagree this time.
How many year has Minaya been GM? The fame system is basically non exsistent. Maybe they should have spent some of the money they have spent on all of these "baseball academies", where they teach players how to not run the bases, play defense or poor approaches to hitting, on scouts. The crap they give us about how the system has talent at the lower levels, is crap...after about five years, they have maybe a half a dozen players teams want...just another piece of evidence that the GM is a joke, and so is his "PLAN".
Reply - <a href="#" class="quote" onclick="quote('156352','pfh64','How many year has Minaya been GM?
